Xiaomi smartwatches and fitness bracelets have long been popular among Android users, but Samsung smartphone owners sometimes face nuances when syncing. Despite the fact that both devices work on the same operating system, differences in shells (One UI from Samsung and MIUI from Xiaomi) can create additional difficulties. In this article, we will analyze not only the standard connection process, but also consider the typical errors that occur when connecting to the Galaxy S23, A54, A34 and other models of the brand.
It is important to understand that the connection algorithm can vary slightly depending on the watch model: Mi Band 7/8, Redmi Watch 3 or Amazfit GTR 4 use different official applications (Mi Fitness, Zepp Life). We will describe each option in detail, and also give recommendations for optimizing the connection for stable notifications and health monitoring. If you have previously tried to connect the watch but encountered an error βfailed to find the deviceβ or constant communication breaks, in this article you will find proven solutions.
1.What app you need to connect Xiaomi watches to Samsung
The first and most important step is to choose the right software. Xiaomi uses several official applications depending on the product line:
- π± Mi Fitness (formerly Mi Fit) β for Mi Band bracelets (including Mi Band 8) and Redmi Watch budget watches.
- β Zepp Life (formerly Amazfit) β for premium Amazfit watches GTR, GTS, T-Rex and new Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro models.
- π Xiaomi Wear is a universal application for the latest generations of smart watches (for example, Xiaomi Watch) S3). Available here.
β οΈ Note: Some Samsung users install apps through the Galaxy Store, but we recommend using Google Play β there versions are updated more often, and there are fewer conflicts with One. UI. Also avoid third-party APK: They may contain stripped-down functionality or malicious code.
If you are not sure what app you need for your model, check the official Xiaomi website or device packaging. For example, Redmi Watch 3 Active requires Mi Fitness, and for Amazfit GTR 4 - Zepp Life. Installing the wrong software will lead to the error "Device is not supported".
2. Step-by-step instruction: connection via Mi Fitness
Consider the process using the most popular application, Mi Fitness, which is used for the Mi Band and Redmi Watch. 11-14.
- Install Mi Fitness from Google Play and open it. When you first start, accept the terms of use and allow access to Contacts, Notifications and Locations (this is necessary for the activity tracker to work correctly).
- Click "Add device" in the upper right corner. In the list, select your model (e.g. Mi Smart Band 8).
- Turn on Bluetooth on your phone (Settings β Connections β Bluetooth) and wait for the watch to appear in the list of available devices. On the watch itself, press the button (or touch area) to put it in pairing mode.
- Confirm the connection on both devices. The application will request a firmware update - discard it at this stage, as updating through Samsung sometimes causes crashes.
After a successful connection, sync your data: to do this, go to Profile β Your Device β Sync. If notifications do not come, check the settings in Mi Fitness β Notifications β Allow access to notifications.
βοΈ Preparation for connection
β οΈ Note: On Samsung phones with Android 13+ This may trigger battery optimization for Mi Fitness, which causes the connection to break. To avoid this, add the app to the exceptions: Settings β Maintenance of the device β Battery β Background work β Mi Fitness β Permission.
Connection via Zepp Life (for Amazfit and premium models)
Zepp Life has a more advanced interface and supports advanced features such as phased sleep analysis or voice training, but it conflicts more often with the One UI shell, so follow the instructions carefully:
- Download Zepp Life and register an account (via Google, Mi Account or email), without an account, data synchronization will not be possible.
- In the main menu, click Add Device and select your model (e.g. Amazfit GTR 4). If your model is not listed, update the app.
- On the watch, go to Settings β Connect β Add the device (the way varies depending on the model). On the phone, confirm the pairing.
- Wait until sync is complete (it can take up to 5 minutes). If the process is stalled in the "Connect..." stage, restart Bluetooth on Samsung.
Zepp Life requires manual notifications for each app, such as:
- Open Profile β Notifications β Managing Notifications.
- Find WhatsApp in the list and turn on the switch.
- In Android settings (Settings β Notifications β Additional), allow Zepp Life to show notifications.
π‘
If the Amazfit watch is not defined in Zepp Life, try resetting it to factory settings: press the button for 10 seconds until the vibration appears. Reconnect after resetting.
4. Typical errors and their solutions
Even when you follow the instructions correctly, Samsung users often face problems, and we've collected some of the most common bugs and ways to fix them:
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| "Can't find the device." | Bluetooth profile conflict or outdated watch firmware | Remove the watch from the paired device list in Settings β Bluetooth. Update the watch firmware through the official app. Reboot the phone and watch. |
| "Synchronization failed." | Restrictions of Background Work in One UI | Add the app to battery exclusions (see Section 2). |
| The watch is connected but does not show notifications | Not given permissions for notifications in Android | Go to Settings β Notifications β Additional β Zepp Life/Mi Fitness and turn on all the switches. |
| Persistent communication breaks | Samsung's energy saving shuts off Bluetooth in the background | Turn off the adaptive battery for the watch application in Settings β Battery β Background work. |
If none of these methods worked, try an alternative method of connecting through the Notify & Fitness for Mi Band app (available on Google Play), which supports most Xiaomi models and often runs more stable than official solutions. Please note, however, that it will require permission to access Special Access (Settings). β Special facilities β Notify & Fitness).
What if the clock is connected but does not display the weather?
5.Operation optimization: settings for stable connection
To avoid connection issues in the future, we recommend you make a few additional adjustments on your Samsung phone:
- π Turn off the adaptive battery for the watch app: Settings β Maintenance of the device β Battery β Background work β [Annex] β Permission.
- πΆ Enable high-quality audio codec (if the clock supports calls): Settings β Connections β Bluetooth β βοΈ β Codec β AAC or SBC.
- π Update the watch firmware through the official app (but not through Samsung Smart Switch!).
- π‘οΈ Add the app to the optimization exceptions: Settings β Annexes β [Annex] β Battery β Optimize battery use β Disconnected.
For the Xiaomi Watch S2/S3 and Amazfit GTR 4, the Quick Connection feature is available, which speeds up synchronization after a communication break, to activate it:
- Open the Zepp Life app.
- Go to Profile β Your Device β Quick Connection
- Turn on the switch and confirm access to the Location.
β οΈ Note: Samsung phones with Android 14 may block access to notifications for third-party apps. If notifications do not come after setting up, check: Settings β Notifications β Additionally. β Access notifications and enable permission for Mi Fitness or Zepp Life.
6. Alternative ways of connecting (without official applications)
If the official Xiaomi apps donβt work or you donβt like their functionality, you can use third-party solutions, for example, the Tools & Mi Band app (available on Google Play) supports most models and offers advanced settings:
- π Set up vibration for each type of notification (calls, SMS, messengers).
- π Export activity data to Google Fit or Apple Health.
- π¨ Customization of dials (even for models where it is not officially supported).
To connect with Tools & Mi Band:
- Install the application and provide all the permissions requested.
- In the main menu, click "Connect device" and select the model.
- Follow the instructions on the screen (you may need to enter) MAC-the address of the clock, which is indicated on the box or in the Settings β About the clock device).
β οΈ Note: Third-party applications may not support all of the original softwareβs features (e.g., blood oxygen or stress measurements), and they are more likely to require special access permission, which may affect security.
π‘
For maximum connection stability, use official apps (Mi Fitness or Zepp Life) and disable all battery optimizations for them in Samsung settings.
7. How to check the quality of the connection and eliminate the lag
If the clock is connected but is running with delays (for example, notifications arrive late or activity data is out of sync), follow these steps:
- Check the strength of the Bluetooth signal: Settings β Connections β Bluetooth β βοΈ near your watch β Signal. If the signal level is low (1-2 divide), reduce the distance between devices or remove interference (other Bluetooth devices, microwaves).
- Clear the app cache: Settings β Apps β [Clock App] β Memory β Clear the cache.
- Reconnect the watch: Remove it from the device list in Settings β Bluetooth and in the official app, then connect again.
- Check conflicts with other devices: If you have headphones, a speaker, or other wearable connected, turn them off β Samsung sometimes limits the number of active Bluetooth connections.
To diagnose deeper problems (e.g., if the clock is permanently off after 5-10 minutes), use the developer mode:
- Activate Developer Mode: Settings β About Phone β Software Information β Assembly Number (click 7 times).
- Go back to Settings β System β Developer Mode.
- Find the Bluetooth HCI Logie setting and turn it on.
- Play the problem (wait for the connection to break) and send the logs in support of Xiaomi through the official application.
