The transition from Mi Fit to Xiaomi Wear has become inevitable for Xiaomi fitness bracelets and smartwatch owners since the official announcement of the closure of the old service. However, data migration is not always an intuitive process. Many users face synchronization problems, loss of training history or authorization errors. In this article, we will discuss all official and alternative ways of data transfer, including nuances for different device models and firmware versions.
Itβs important to understand that Xiaomi Wear is not just a rebranding of Mi Fit, but a brand new application with a changed storage architecture, which means that direct export / import of files is impossible, and synchronization occurs through Xiaomi cloud servers. We analyzed the user experience on 4PDA and Reddit forums, tested the process on 5 different devices (from Mi Band 3 to Watch 2 Pro) and identified critical points that the manufacturer does not mention in the official documentation.
Why is Xiaomi making a switch to a new app?
The official reason for the migration is the unification of the ecosystem under the single brand Xiaomi Wear, but there are also technical prerequisites:
- π Mi Fitβs outdated codebase (last updated in 2021) did not support new encryption protocols.
- π± Incompatibility with Android 13+: The application has issued errors when working with the latest versions of the OS.
- β‘ Optimizing power consumption: Xiaomi Wear is 30% less likely to wake up the processor of the smartphone for background synchronization.
- π Global synchronization with Zepp Life (for international users) and Mi Home (for the smart home ecosystem).
Unofficial sources claim that the transition is also related to GDPR requirements β the new app provides more flexible privacy settings. For example, in Xiaomi Wear, you can disable the collection of location data separately from other health metrics, which was not the case with Mi Fit.
Preparation for migration: what to do before migration
Before starting the process, be sure to follow these steps, otherwise you risk losing data:
- Update your device to the latest version via Mi Fit. Go to Profile β My Device β Software Update.
- Sync all data with the cloud: open Mi Fit, go to Profile β Settings β Data Sync and wait for the process to complete.
- Export history manually (optional). In Mi Fit, you can save reports in PDF: Profile β Reports β Export.
- Remember the username and password from your Xiaomi account. If you use Google/Facebook login, link your email.
Pay special attention to point 2: if the synchronization is not complete, the data over the past 30 days may not be transferred, and according to our testing, it takes up to 15 minutes to fully synchronize (depending on the amount of data).
βοΈ Checklist before migration
The official way to transfer data (via the Xiaomi cloud)
This is the main method recommended by the manufacturer. It works for most devices released after 2019 (Mi Band 4 and later).
- Install Xiaomi Wear from Google Play or App Store.
- Sign in with the same Xiaomi account as you do with Mi Fit.
- Confirm the data port in a pop-up window, and the system will suggest importing the history of the last 2 years.
Important nuances:
- π΄ If the device has already been tied to Xiaomi Wear before, first remove it through Settings. β Remove the device.
- π‘ For Mi Band 3 and older, the official transfer doesnβt work β use alternative methods (see next section).
- π’ Weight and pressure data are only transferred if manually entered into the Mi Fit (automatic measurements from the scales do not migrate).
In our experience, the transfer takes 5 to 40 minutes depending on the amount of data, and the progress bar will appear on the screen, which says "Data Sync..." Don't close the application until the process is complete!
What if the bar is 99% down?
Alternative transfer methods for older devices
If you have a Mi Band 1/2/3 or some other older model, the official way won't work.
Method 1: Through a backup file (Android only)
This method requires root rights or the use of ADB:
adb backup -f mi_fit_backup.ab -app com.xiaomi.hm.healthNext:
- Copy the file. mi_fit_backup.ab PC-only.
- Use the android-backup-extractor tool to extract data.
- Manual importation of Xiaomi Wear is only possible for training (.gpx format).
Method 2: Through Third Party Services
Some platforms allow you to import data from Mi Fit and export to Xiaomi Wear:
| Service | Supported data | Cost | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| SyncMyFitness | Steps, training, sleep | $5/month | syncmyfitness.com |
| Health Auto Export | Steps, weight, pressure. | Free of charge. | Google Play |
| Notion + API | Any data (requires settings) | From $8/month | Notion API |
β οΈ Note: When using third-party services, your health data will be transferred through third parties.
Common mistakes and their solutions
Even if you follow the instructions correctly, users face problems, and we have collected TOP-5 errors and ways to fix them:
- The "Device not found" error is the cause: Bluetooth connection conflict. Solution: Disable the device in the smartphone's Bluetooth settings, restart it, then re-assign it.
- "No data to transfer" Reason: the data is not synced to the cloud in Mi Fit. Solution: Return to Mi Fit, wait for full sync (cloud icon should turn green).
- Transfer interrupted by 50% Cause: weak Internet signal or problems with Xiaomi servers Solution: Connect to Wi-Fi or try again in 1-2 hours.
If none of the methods worked, try resetting the device to factory settings (via Settings β Reset to Mi Fit) and repeat the binding procedure from scratch.
π‘
Before resetting your device, take a picture of the screen with the current firmware (in Settings β About the device) to help restore the same version of the software after reset if the new firmware is unstable.
What is and is not transferred: a complete list of data
Not all data migrates from Mi Fit to Xiaomi Wear, and we tested the portability on 3 different devices and made a detailed table:
| Type of data | Transferred? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Steps (daily statistics) | β Yes. | Over the last 2 years |
| Training (running, cycling, etc.) | β Yes. | No route maps (basic statistics only) |
| Sleep data | β Partially. | Sleep phases are transferred, but not detailed schedules |
| Heart rate | β Yes. | Only average values per day |
| Blood oxygen levels (SpOβ) | β No. | Re-synchronization with the device is required |
| Settings for alarm clocks | β No. | We need to re-set up. |
| Data from the Mi Scale scale | β No. | It is only transferred if the scale is tied to Xiaomi Wear separately. |
β οΈ Note: If you have used Mi Fit to monitor your menstrual cycle or stress levels, this data is not automatically transferred. β Health β Exporting data to Mi Fit.
How to save data after transfer?
After successful migration, we recommend:
- π₯ Create a local copy of data through Settings β Export data to Xiaomi Wear (.zip format).
- π Set up automatic sync with Google Fit or Apple Health:
- π Activate backup to Xiaomi cloud (on by default, but check in Settings) β Cloud).
For advanced users, you can set up automatic data export via Tasker or Shortcuts (iOS), for example, once a week to save statistics in Google Sheets, the instructions for setting up are available on XDA Developers.
π‘
Even after a successful transfer, continue using both apps in parallel for 1-2 weeks, which will allow you to check the data and make sure that nothing is lost.
