Xiaomi smartwatches are some of the most popular gadgets for tracking activity, but sometimes you have to untie them from your smartphone, for example, when selling a device, changing your phone or fixing synchronization errors. Unlike simply removing an application, full untie requires the right sequence of actions, otherwise the data can be stored in the cloud and the watch can remain tied to the old account.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways of detachment for models Mi Band 3/4/5/6/7, Xiaomi Watch S1/S2/S3, Redmi Watch 2/3 and others, including cases when the phone is lost or broken.
1.Preparation: What to do before uncoupling
Before you untidy the clock, be sure to follow these steps to avoid data loss or device lockdown:
- π± Synchronize data in an application (Mi Fitness or Zepp Life) and this will save the history of activity in the cloud.
- π Charge the clock to at least 50% β resetting settings at low charge can lead to errors.
- π‘ Turn off Bluetooth on other devices to avoid accidentally binding to them.
- π Write it down. IMEI hours (if any) - it may be needed to restore access. Find it in the device settings or on the box.
If you plan to sell or transfer the watch to another person, make sure to reset to factory settings β this will delete all personal information, including health and payment information (for models with NFC).
β οΈ Note: If the watch is tied to your Xiaomi account (Mi Account) and you have forgotten your password, resetting may block the device.
2. Untie via Mi Fitness app (for Mi Band 1-6, old models)
The Mi Fitness app was used to manage Xiaomi watches until 2022.If you have one of the older models (Mi Band 3/4/5/6 or Amazfit Bip), follow this instruction:
- Open Mi Fitness and go to Profile β My Devices.
- Choose your watch from the list.
- Click on the icon. βοΈ (settings) in upper right corner.
- Scroll down and tap Untie the device.
- Confirm the action in the pop-up window.
After the waive, the watch will automatically go into the standby mode of binding. If this does not happen, reset through the device menu:

The clock is over 50% charged.
Bluetooth is on on the phone
The device is connected to Mi Fitness-->
β οΈ Note: If Mi Fitness does not have a βUntie Deviceβ button, upgrade to the latest version of the app or use the βSkrasaβ method via Zepp Life (see next section).
3. Untie via Zepp Life (for new models: Mi Band 7/8, Watch S3)
Since 2022, Xiaomi has moved to the Zepp Life app (formerly Amazfit) to manage new devices. The uncoupling process here is slightly different:
- π² Open Zepp Life and go to the Profile tab β My devices.
- π Click on the associated clock, then select Device Management.
- ποΈ Tap Remove the device and confirm.
- π If the clock is not untied, restart it (hold the 10 seconds button).

Zepp Life
Both in turn
Other/I don't know-->
If the watch does not appear in the list of available devices for new binding after unbundling, reset through the engineering menu (see section 5).
4. Untie without phone: reset in hours
If your phone is lost, broken, or you just want to untie the watch without the app, use hardware reset. This method works for all models, but can vary in steps:
| Model clock | Resetting method | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Band 3/4/5 | Hold the touch button for 10-15 seconds until vibration. | After reset, the watch will show the code for the new binding. |
| Mi Band 6/7/8 | Go to Settings β System β Reset. | It'll require screen confirmation. |
| Xiaomi Watch S1/S2 | Hold the physical button for 10 seconds. | After rebooting, select the language and click Reset. |
| Redmi Watch 2/3 | Press the screen up and down for 5 seconds. | There'll be a reset menu. |

Before using the engineering menu, make sure that the watch has enough charge (at least 70%), interrupting the process can lead to the "bricking" of the device.
