Xiaomi wireless headphones are a convenience without wires, but it's also a headache if one of them suddenly disappears in the apartment. You listened to music, put the earphone on the table, and an hour later it's gone. Or you took out only one of the bags. TWS-I have lost one of my headphones at home at least once.
The problem is that the small case (the weight of the Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro headphone is only 4.3 grams) and the lack of sound when it is off make it almost invisible. But don't rush to buy a new kit! 90% of the time, the headphone is within a radius of 5 meters from the last place of use. We have collected 7 working methods for detecting it - from official functions to folk tricks.
Importantly, if the earphone is discharged or manually turned off, some of the ways won't work, but even then, we have solutions.
1.Use the official Mi Home or Xiaomi Wear app
The most obvious, but not always effective way is to search through proprietary software. Xiaomi has built the headphone search function into its applications, but it only works if three conditions are met:
- 📱 The headphone is on and is within range of Bluetooth (up to 10 meters without obstacles).
- 🔋 Charge level above 10% (otherwise, the Bluetooth module is turned off to save energy).
- 📲 Mi Home (for older models) or Xiaomi Wear (for newer ones) is installed and synced with headphones.
Instructions for Xiaomi Wear (relevant to Buds 3/4 Pro, FlipBuds Pro and later):

2.Search through Bluetooth Connection History
If the official software didn’t work, try to look at the logs in your phone’s settings, which works even if the headphone is now off but previously connected to your smartphone.
How to view the latest use:
- 📱 Android: Go to Settings → Connected devices → Find your headphones on the list and tap on the gear. ⚙️ In some firmware (e.g., in some firmware, MIUI 14+) The last connection is displayed with the time.
If the last connection was less than 1 hour ago, look at the places you were during that period. For example, if the headphone was connected at 15:30 and now it is 16:00, look for it in the radius of your movement in the last 30 minutes.
💡 Lifehack: If you have a Xiaomi smartphone on your phone MIUI, Turn on Smart Search in Bluetooth settings. It automatically records the geolocation of the last headphone connection (accuracy is enough to the room).

If the headphone is connected to a laptop or tablet, check the history of Bluetooth on these devices too – sometimes more accurate information is stored there.
3. The method of "hot" and "cold" search
It doesn't require technology, just your patience and your logic, and the point is to narrow down the search area to the exclusion of places where the earphone is not.
Algorithm of action:
- Divide the apartment into zones: bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, hallway, etc.
- Look at the hot areas (where you most often use headphones): desktop, sofa, bed, bag.
- Exclude the “cold” areas (where the headphone could hardly be): balcony, storage room, refrigerator.
- Check out the non-obvious places: 🛋️ Under pillows and blankets (the earpiece could roll when shaken). 👖 In your pockets (even the ones you didn’t wear today). 📦 In boxes with small things (charges, cables, coins). 🐕 Under the furniture (if there are animals in the house, they could move it).
⚠️ Attention: Don't ignore the trash can! Statistically, 12% of the lost headphones are in the bin, they're accidentally swept away along with paper or wrappers.

4.Use flashlight and mirror
Xiaomi’s small black or white headphone is easily lost in the background of furniture or carpet. To detect it, use two physical tricks:
Method 1: A flashlight at an angle
Turn on the flashlight on your smartphone and point the light parallel to the surface (e.g., along the floor or table) and the shadow from the earphone will be visible even if it lies in the gap.
Method 2: A mirror for hard-to-reach places
If the headphone could roll under the sofa or cabinet, take a mirror on the handle (or self-selling with a flashlight) and inspect the space from below.

5. Checking the case and charger
It may sound silly, but 30 percent of users find a lost earpiece... inside a case. The fact is that if you unscrupulously extract one earpiece can stick to a magnet and go unnoticed.
What to do:
- 🔋 Take both headphones out of the case and put them on the table.
- 🔍 Light a flashlight inside the case - sometimes the headphone hides in the corner.
- 🔄 Turn the case over and shake - if the earphone is there, it will fall out.
- 🔌 Check the charger: the headphone could be stuck in the connector USB-C Micro-USB (relevant to older models).
⚠️ Warning: If the case was wet or washed, the earphone inside could oxidize. In this case, don't turn it on right away - dry it for 24 hours in rice or silica gel.

6. Connect the earphone to another device
If the headphone is on but not on Xiaomi Wear, try connecting it to another gadget to help determine if it works at all.
Step-by-step:
- Take a second smartphone, tablet or laptop with Bluetooth.
- Enable the search mode on the headphone: For Xiaomi Buds 3/4 Pro: hold the touchpad for 5 seconds until the red/white light flashes. For Redmi AirDots: press and hold the button on the case for 10 seconds.
On the second device, start searching for Bluetooth devices.

Play the sound (music or bell) – this will help to localize the earphone by sound.
💡 Useful tip: If you have a smart speaker (like the Xiaomi Mi Smart Speaker), try plugging an earphone into it. The column can play sound louder than a smartphone.
Extreme measures: disassembly of furniture and magnetic search techniques
If all the previous methods have failed, it's time for radical methods, which take time, but often work.
Method 1: Sofa/chair disassembly
The earpiece could have fallen deep into the upholstered furniture to reach it.
- Remove the bottom fabric panel of the sofa (usually it is attached to Velcro or buttons).
- Light a flashlight inside - look for a shiny body.
- If the headphone is deep, use a vacuum cleaner with a brush nozzle (turn on the minimum power so as not to damage the earphone).
Critical information: If the earphone hits the washing machine and has gone through the full laundry cycle, don't turn it on! First, disassemble and dry the board, or it will short circuit.
