The screen on Xiaomi does not work: all the reasons and ways to fix

Have you taken a Xiaomi smartphone horizontally, but the picture persists vertically? Or does the screen only turn in some applications and ignore the turn in others? Autorotation is one of the most common problems on devices running MIUI, and the causes of its occurrence can range from a banal error in settings to hardware malfunctions.

In this article, we will look at all the possible reasons why the screen autorotate stopped working on your Redmi, POCO or another Xiaomi smartphone, and give step-by-step instructions for their elimination. Particular attention will be paid to the hidden MIUI settings, which often get lost after system updates. If you have already tried to turn the autorotation through the notification curtain, but this did not help, do not rush the phone to the service: in 90% of cases, the problem can be solved yourself.

1. Check the basic settings of the autoturn

The first thing to do is make sure that the autorotation function is activated in the system at all. Even if you see a turn icon in the notification bar, this does not guarantee that the setting is enabled globally.

Open the Settings → Screen → Autoturn and check:

• 🔄 Slider "Autoporov" - should be in the position "On." (blue color).
• 📱 Portrait Orientation Mode – If activated, the screen will not rotate.
• 🔧 Application exceptions – some programs (such as YouTube or TikTok) may have their own turn settings.

If the slider is on, but the autorotation still doesn't work, try turning it off and turning it back on -- sometimes it resets temporary glitches. Also check if Do Not Disturb or Save Charge is activated -- they can block the sensors.

Failures in the operation of the accelerometer sensor

The autorotation of the screen depends on the accelerometer, the sensor that detects the position of the device in space, and if it fails or is not working correctly, the screen will not turn. MIUI:

1. Open the MIUI Testing Tool app – it’s pre-installed on all Xiaomi smartphones.
2. Select the Sensors section.
3. Find the Accelerometer string and look at the charts. When you rotate your phone, the X, Y, Z values should change smoothly.

If the graphs don't respond to the turn or show random jumps, the problem is the sensor.

1. Open Settings → Applications → Application Management.
2. Select a program that doesn’t rotate (e.g. Chrome or Gallery).
3. Press Permissions → Further → Fix orientation.
4. Make sure there is no checkmark opposite Portrait or Album.

The problem can also be found in third-party launchers (like Nova Launcher or POCO Launcher), try switching temporarily to a standard MIUI launcher and check if the autorotor works, and if so, upgrade or reinstall the alternative launcher.

MIUI updates often bring not only new features, but also bugs. If the autorotor stopped working immediately after installing the update, the problem is most likely system settings.

5. Resetting settings to factory
