You picked up a Xiaomi smartphone, unlocked the screen, and suddenly realized that important notifications were not showing up. No messages from Telegram, no missed calls, no reminders from Google Calendar. The lock screen is empty, although the notification curtain is all in place. This is the problem faced by owners of devices on MIUI different versions, from Redmi Note 10 to flagship Xiaomi 14. What is it: a firmware bug, a failure of settings or security restrictions?
In this article, we’ll look at all the possible reasons why notifications don’t show up on the Xiaomi lock screen, from the banal to the hidden. You’ll learn how to check your privacy settings, why some apps “disappear” from the lock, and what to do if a problem occurs after the MIUI update. And how to distinguish system limitations from errors that require resetting.
1. Notification privacy settings in MIUI
The first thing to check is the permissions to display notifications for specific applications. MIUI has a separate section that configures what data can be displayed on the lock screen, often users accidentally turn off this option or the system resets it after an update.
To check:
- 📱 Open the Settings. → Notifications and status bar → Notifications on the lock screen.
- 🔍 Check if the “Show Notifications” switch is on (should be active).
- 🔒 If the option is enabled but notifications are not shown anyway, tap on Privacy Settings and select Show Notification Content (otherwise only application icons without text).
Note that some versions of MIUI (e.g. MIUI 14 for global firmware) may call this section “Block screen” → “Notifications.” If you don’t find a paragraph, search by settings (the magnifying glass icon at the top).
⚠️ Note: If you use Xiaomi with Chinese firmware (e.g. Redmi) K50 For the Chinese market, the notification settings section may not be available or require additional rights. MIUI Install Google Play Services manually.
2. Restrictions for specific applications
Even if general notification settings are enabled, individual applications may be blocked from showing on the lock screen, which often happens after installing new programs or resetting a cache.
How to check:
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Select an app that doesn’t show notifications (like WhatsApp or VK).
- Slip on the “Notifications” and make sure that:
- 🔔 The main switch "Allow notifications" is enabled».
- 📲 In the section "Block screen" there is a tick "Show».
- 🔕 Notification Categories do not disable important types (e.g., Messages or Calls»).
Pay special attention to system applications such as Phone, Messages and Calendar, and sometimes after the MIUI update, their settings are reset to factory ones, and notifications of missed calls are no longer displayed.
💡
If notifications are not only shown for Google apps (Gmail, YouTube), check if the background mode for Google Play Services is turned off in the battery settings. Without this service, many notifications are not delivered.
3. Do Not Disturb and other energy saving functions
One of the most common reasons is the active Do Not Disturb (DND) mode, which can be enabled not only manually, but also on a schedule (for example, overnight) or automatically when you connect to the Mi Band.
How to check:
- 🌙 Go to Settings. → Sound and vibration → Don't disturb.
- 🔄 Make sure the mode is turned off or configured correctly (for example, notifications from Favorite Contacts are allowed).
- ⚡ Check the Settings. → Battery and productivity → Power saving mode: In either Super-Economic or Battery modes, application background activity is limited, and notifications may not arrive.
MIUI also has a feature called Automatic Notification Disablement for underutilized applications, to turn it off:
- Go to Settings → Battery and Performance → Background Activity Management.
- Find the application and turn on Auto Start and Background Activity for it.
4. Failures after MIUI update or reset settings
If the problem occurs immediately after the firmware update (e.g., from MIUI 13 to MIUI 14), the fault may be:
- 🔄 Resetting notification settings to factory.
- 🐛 The new version bug (especially relevant for betta firmware).
- 📦 Conflict with the remaining data of the old version (cache, application settings).
What to do:
- Clear the system cache: Settings → About phone → Memory → Clear the cache.
- Reset notification settings: Settings → Applications → Application Management → Three dots (menu) → Reset notification settings.
- If it doesn’t work, roll back to the old version of MIUI or wait for a patch (check Xiaomi forums for complaints from other users).
⚠️ Warning: After resetting the notification settings, all permissions for applications will have to be reconfigured. Write down or take a picture of the current settings in advance if there are many.

5. Problems with synchronization and Google services
If you don’t see notifications from Gmail, Google Calendar, or other Google services, the problem may be related to:
- 🔄 Lack of sync (e.g., Google account is not tied or sync is disabled).
- 📵 Block background activity for Google Play Services.
- 🔒 Restrictions MIUI for non-systemic applications.
How to fix it:
- Check if your Google account is linked: Settings → Accounts and Sync → Google.
- Enable synchronization for the desired services (for example, “Gmail” and “Calendar”).
- Go to Settings → Applications → App Management → Google Play Services and:
- 🔄 Turn on "Space-start».
- 📱 Allow "background activity».
- 🔋 Turn off Battery Optimization (if there is such a item).
If notifications don't come from just Google apps, try deleting your Google account and adding it again, sometimes helping to reset your sync settings.

6. Hardware limitations and model features
Some Xiaomi models (especially low-end ones like the Redmi 9A or Poco M3) have hardware restrictions on displaying notifications.
- 🔋 Energy savings (weak processor does not handle background tasks).
- 📱 Cut down firmware (in some regions, some functions are disabled).
- 🔒 Security Policy (for example, on corporate devices).
How to check if this applies to your model:
| Xiaomi model | Possible limitations | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi 9A/9C | Background activity is disabled for most applications | Manually configure each application in the “Battery” |
| Poco M3/M4 | Notifications are not shown when the screen is locked for more than 5 minutes. | Turn off “deep sleep” in the battery settings |
| Xiaomi 12T/13 Lite | Restrictions for apps without Google Play Services | Install GMS manually or use global firmware |
| Black Shark 4/5 | Game mode blocks notifications | Disable “Game mode” in “Settings → Special features” |
If your model is in the table, try the proposed solutions. If not, check the forums (such as 4PDA or XDA-Developers) for similar complaints from other users.
7 Viruses, Malware and Conflicting Applications
Less commonly, there are cases where notifications are blocked due to:
- 🦠 Malware applications that intercept notifications (e.g., phishing “cleaners” or “optimizers»).
- 🛡️ Antiviruses or firewalls (e.g. Avast, 360 Security) that filter background activity too aggressively.
- 🔄 Conflicts between applications (for example, two launchers or two programs to block notifications).
How to diagnose:
- Check installed apps for suspicious ones (especially those that have requested “Overlapping Other Apps” or “Special Features”).
- Launch your phone in Safe Mode (press the power button → Safe Mode) If notifications appear, it is the fault of third-party software.
- Remove recently installed programs or roll back their updates.
⚠️ Note: Some “optimizers” (e.g, DU Speed Booster or Clean Master can block notifications under the pretext of "battery saving." Delete them and check the system without them.
8. Resetting settings and extreme measures
If none of the above has worked, radical methods remain:
- 🔄 Reset all settings (without deleting data).
- 📦 Flashing the device (if the problem has appeared after the update).
- 🔧 Contacting the service center (if it is a hardware failure).
How to reset your settings without losing data:
- Go to Settings → About the phone → Reset settings.
- Select “Resetting” (not “Reset to factory”!).
- Once you reboot, all settings (including notifications) will return to factory.
If that doesn’t work, you’ll still have to completely reset or flash it. Before you do that, make sure to back up your data through Settings → Additional → Backup and Reset.
💡
Before resetting your settings, check if the lack of notifications is related to a particular app. For example, Telegram has a separate setting, “Do not show notifications on the lock screen” – it is easy to skip!
