Why Xiaomi is showing ads and can it be removed?
Xiaomiβs smartphones, TVs, and smart devices have long proven to be budget-friendly but functional gadgets. However, many users are faced with one unpleasant feature: built-in advertising in system applications, settings menus, and even on the lock screen. This is not a coincidence, but part of the companyβs business model: MIUI (the branded shell of Android from Xiaomi) is monetized by displaying ads in countries where the devices are sold at the lowest price.
The good news is that ads can be turned off in most ways without having to get root rights or install custom firmware. Bad news: Xiaomi regularly updates its ad-show mechanisms, so some methods eventually stop working. In this article, weβve compiled the 2026-relevant methods tested on the latest versions of MIUI 14/15 and HyperOS (for new models).
Itβs important to understand that disabling ads does not violate the license agreement, but it can affect the performance of some services (for example, Mi Cloud or Mi Video).
Method 1: Disabling personalized advertising in MIUI settings
The easiest and safest method is to deactivate personalized ads in system settings, which will not eliminate ads completely, but will significantly reduce the amount of advertising. POCO on MIUI or hyperos:
- Open the Settings. β The phone.
- Tap 7-10 times on the MIUI version (or HyperOS version) until the message βYou are a developer!β appears.
- Go back to the main menu of settings β Additional β For developers.
- Find the option Personalized Ads (or MIUI Ads) and turn it off.
After that, restart the device. The effect will be noticeable in 12-24 hours: banners will disappear in the Weather, Calendar and some system notifications, but ads in Mi Browser, Mi Video and on the lock screen will remain.

If the item "Personalized advertising" is not in the developer menu, update the firmware to the latest version or use the method β3 ADB-team.
Method 2: Manually disabling ads in each application
Xiaomi embeds ad units into most standard apps: Browser, Music, Videos, Themes, and even Settings, and to remove them, you'll have to manually disable ad impressions in each of them.
- π± Mi Browser: Settings β Additionally. β Advertising and notification β Turn off all switches.
- π΅ Mi Music: Settings β Recommendations β uncheck the box with "Show advertising".
- πΊ Mi Video: Profile β Settings β Advertising β select "Disable".
- π Topics: Profile β Settings β Promotional notices β deactivate the option.
- π§ Settings: in some versions MIUI Advertising Hiding in Settings β The phone. β Updating the system β Turn off "Show ads".
Note that after updating the applications, settings may reset, check them every 1-2 months, especially if the ads are back, and remove unnecessary system applications (if possible) such as Mi Pay or Mi Credit, which often show banners.

Method 3: ADB-deep-switching teams
If the first two didn't work, it's time to move on to advanced methods, and with ADB, you can turn off system-level advertising services, which doesn't require root rights, but it takes a computer and 10 to 15 minutes.
Preparation:
- Download ADB Tools for Windows/macOS/Linux.
- Turn on USB Debugging on your phone: Settings β About Phone β MIUI Version (Tap 7 times) β For developers β Debugging on USB.
- Connect the phone to your computer and confirm the debugging permission.
Commands to execute:
adb shell pm hide com.miui.systemAdSolution
adb shell pm hide com.xiaomi.midrop
adb shell pm hide com.miui.analytics
adb shell pm hide com.xiaomi.ab
adb shell settings put global hide_forced_updates 1These commands hide the system applications that are responsible for displaying ads and collecting analytics, and after you do this, restart your phone. If something goes wrong (e.g., important features go missing), you can return it to the command:
adb shell pm unhide [name packet]What if the ADB does not recognize the device?
Method 4: Use of third-party utilities (without root)
If manual methods seem complicated, you can use specialized utilities that automate the process of disabling advertising.
| Utility. | Support for MIUI/HyperOS | You need a PC? | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| MIUI Hidden Settings | MIUI 12β15, HyperOS | No. | Google Play |
| Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools | All versions. | Yes. | XDA Developers |
| Disable MIUI Ads | MIUI 10β14 | No. | GitHub |
MIUI Hidden Settings is the easiest solution: Once installed, open the app, go to the Manage Apps section and disable all apps with the word ads, analytics or msa in the title. Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools is a more powerful tool, but requires a PC connection and knowledge of English.
β οΈ Note: Third-party utilities may contain vulnerabilities. download them only from official sources (GitHub, XDA, Google Play and check reviews before installing.
Method 5: Disabling Advertising on Xiaomi Mi TVs
Users of Xiaomi Mi TV or Redmi Smart TV also suffer from intrusive ads on the home screen and menu, and fortunately, it can be removed through hidden settings:
- Click Menu β Settings β Account & Security.
- Select Mi Account and log out of your account (if you were logged in).
- Go back to Settings β Preferences β Advertisements.
- Turn off the options: πΊ Recommendations (Recommendations) π User Experience Program (User Experience Program) π’ Personalized Ads (Personalized Ads)
If there is no Advertisements item, try another way:
- Click on Menu β Settings β Device Preferences β About.
- Click 5-7 times on Android TV OS version until the developer menu appears.
- Go back to Settings β Developer options and turn off Limit ad tracking.
On some models (such as the Mi TV 4S or Redmi TV A2), ads can return after the update, in which case a factory reset will help, and then disable all advertising options before logging into the Mi Account.
Method 6: Blocking Advertising via DNS or VPN
If the ads appear in the browser or some applications, they can be blocked at the network level.
- π DNS-Servers: Use AdGuard DNS (94.140.14.14) or Cloudflare Family (1.1.1.3). Put them in Settings. β Wi-Fi β Additionally. β Settings IP β Static β DNS 1/2.
- π VPN Ad-blocking: AdGuard VPN, Blokada or NextDNS filter advertising domains at the traffic level.
- π‘οΈ Local Blocker: Blokada (no root) or AdAway (requires root) creates a local Blocker VPN-advertising-filtering tunnel.
This method will not remove the system advertising in the MIUI, But it will eliminate banners in the browser, YouTube and some third-party applications. VPN.

Method 7: Extreme measures - reset or custom firmware
If none of these methods work, radical solutions remain:
- Resetting to factory settings and then disabling all ad options before first logging into Mi Account helps on new devices where ads havenβt yet entered the system.
- Installing custom firmware (like LineageOS or Pixel Experience) will completely remove MIUI and all its advertising mechanisms, but will require unlocking the bootloader and losing warranty.
- Purchase of a device for the global market (with MIUI Global or EEA firmware) in Europe and the United States, advertising in MIUI is significantly less due to local data protection laws.
β οΈ Attention: Installing custom firmware can lead to loss of camera features (due to closed Xiaomi drivers), problems with Widevine L1 (no HD Netflix) and other bugs. Backup your data before you run the firmware!
If you decide to use custom firmware, follow the instructions from the XDA Developers forum for your model. To unlock the bootloader, you will need official permission from Xiaomi (request via Mi Unlock Tool).

Custom firmware is the most effective way to remove ads, but it's also the riskiest, and only use it if you're prepared for hardware or software problems.
