Why Notifications Are Not Showing on a Locked Screen and How to Fix It
Are you missing important messages because Xiaomiโs smartphone doesnโt show notifications on the lock screen? This problem is familiar to many owners of devices on MIUI โ even after upgrading to the latest versions of the system (including MIUI 14 based on Android 13/14). The reasons can be different, from accidentally disabled settings to the limitations of specific applications.
In this article, you will find 3 working ways to enable notifications to be displayed on a locked screen, from basic settings to hidden settings for power users. We will also discuss why some notifications may not appear even after the feature is turned on (spoiler: not only the phone settings, but also the messengers themselves are to blame).
The manual is suitable for all modern Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO models, including Xiaomi 14 flagships, Redmi Note 13 Pro+ and budget POCO M6 Pro. If you have a device older than 2019 (for example, Redmi Note 7 or Mi 9), check out the MIUI version - some menu items may be slightly different.
Method 1: Basic Notification settings in MIUI
So let's start with the simplest one: turn on notifications through the standard menu, which works 90 percent of the time and doesn't require any manipulation.
Open Settings โ Notifications and Status bar โ Notifications on the lock screen. Here you will see three options:
- ๐ Show all content โ the text of the message, the sender name and the application icon are displayed.
- ๐ Hide the content of notifications โ only application icons without text are shown.
- ๐ซ Do not show notifications โ the lock screen remains clean.
Select the first option (Show all content) if you want to see full notifications. If privacy is more important, choose the second option. Importantly, some banking applications (such as SberBank Online or Tinkoff) may ignore these settings and not show notifications on a locked screen for security reasons.

Method 2: Set up notifications for individual applications
Even if you have enabled notifications on the lock screen in general settings, some apps may block their display, including messengers (WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber), social networks (Vkontakte, Instagram), and email clients (Gmail, Yandex Mail).
To check the settings for a specific application:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Select the application you want (such as Telegram).
- Slip on the Notification item.
- Make sure the Allow Notifications switch is active.
- Scroll down and turn on the option to Show on the lock screen (if any).
For WhatsApp and Telegram, also check the settings inside the apps themselves:
- ๐ฌ WhatsApp: โ Settings โ Notifications โ Pop-up notifications โ Turn on Show when blocking.
- ๐ค Telegram: โฐ Menus. โ Settings โ Notifications and sounds โ Show the text of the messages.

If notifications still donโt appear after the changes, try clearing the cache of the problem application. Go to Settings โ Apps โ [Select App] โ Storage โ Clear the cache.
Method 3: Hidden MIUI settings for power users
If the first two methods didnโt work, the problem may lie in hidden MIUI settings that donโt appear in the standard menu, which are often reset after system updates or factory resets.
To access them:
- Open the phone app and enter the code: ##4636##
- In the menu that appears, select Phone Information.
- Scroll down to the Notification Settings section (may be called Notification log in English firmware).
- Turn on the option to Show notifications on the lock screen (if it is disabled).
If this method didnโt help, try resetting notification settings to factory:
- Go to Settings. โ Annexes โ Application management โ โฎ (three-point) โ Reset application settings.
- Confirm action. Attention: This will reset permissions for all applications, but it will not delete data.
What to do if there is no item "Notifications on the lock screen"?
Table: Compatibility of settings with Xiaomi models
Not all Xiaomi models support the same notification settings, and the table below provides information on compatibility for popular devices:
| Model of the device | MIUI 12 | MIUI 13 | MIUI 14 | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 13/13 Pro/13 Ultra | โ | โ | โ | MIUI 12 requires manual activation via ADB |
| Redmi Note 12 Pro+/12 Pro | โ | โ | โ | Problems with displaying notifications from Viber |
| POCO F5/F5 Pro | โ | โ | โ | Global firmware may not have the item "Show content" |
| Redmi 10/10A/10C | โ | โ | โ | Stable work on all versions |
| Xiaomi Mi 11/Mi 11 Ultra | โ | โ | โ | MIUI 14 may have Gmail notification bugs |
If your model is not in the table, focus on the MIUI version. For Android 12 and later (MIUI 13+), all settings should work stably. On older firmware (MIUI 11 and below), you may need to use ADB or third-party applications.
Solving the problem: Why notifications don't show up even after turning on
You've followed all the instructions, but the notifications are still not displayed? Here are 5 of the most common reasons and ways to eliminate them:
- Optimizing the battery: MIUI It aggressively closes the background processes to fix them: ๐ Go to Settings. โ Battery and productivity โ Battery Optimization: Find a problem app (like Telegram) and select Unlimited.
- Do Not Disturb: Check if it is activated: ๐ Settings โ Sound and vibration โ Don't disturb. โ Disable or configure exceptions.

If the problem persists with only one application (like VKontakte), it is likely that its internal settings are to blame: Try reinstalling the application or using the web version through the browser.
โ ๏ธ Note: On devices with unlocked bootloader or custom firmware (such as LineageOS), the notification settings may not work correctly. In this case, it is recommended to return the official firmware via the Mi Flash Tool.
Additional Chips: How to Set Up Notifications for Yourself
MIUI offers a few hidden options for fine-tuning notifications, and here are the most useful ones:
- ๐จ Color accents: In Settings โ Notifications and status bar โ The notification color can be selected for different types of notifications (e.g. green for messages, blue for calls).
- ๐ Priority Notifications: In the same menu, there is a priority notifications option โ here you can select applications, notifications from which will be shown even in the Do Not Disturb mode.
- ๐ฑ Notification gestures: On some models (e.g. Xiaomi 13), you can configure a swipe on the notification on the lock screen for a quick response. โ Lock screen โ Gestures.
- ๐ Hiding Sensitive Notifications: If youโre afraid someone will see the content of your messages, turn on Hiding Notifications from certain apps in your lock settings.
For owners of devices with Always-On Display (AOD) (for example, Xiaomi 14 or Redmi K60 Pro), an additional setting is available: notifications can be displayed directly on the AOD screen.
- Go to Settings โ Lock screen โ Always-On Display.
- Turn on the option to display notifications.
- Choose the display style (icons or text).

If you have Xiaomi with AMOLED-In the screen, the Always-On Display has little effect on battery consumption, because the pixels are individually illuminated. LCD-screens (e.g. Redmi) 10A) This function will greatly deplete the battery.
