Xiaomi’s modern Smart TVs offer users a wide range of multimedia capabilities, and one of the most sought-after features is smartphone or tablet image duplication, a technology known as Miracast or Wireless Monitor that allows you to display photos, videos, presentations or gameplay on a large screen without using wires. For many owners of Android TV or PatchWall devices, this is becoming the main way to showcase content.
However, despite the seeming simplicity, the setup process can raise questions for untrained users. Differences in firmware versions, router models, and mobile device operating systems (Android vs. iOS) make their own adjustments. In this article, we will discuss in detail how to activate the Wireless Display feature, what nuances exist for different platforms, and how to fix typical connection errors.
Before setting up, make sure your Mi TV or Redmi TV is connected to a Wi-Fi network. The stability of the wireless connection is critical for smooth transmission of high-resolution video stream. If the network is unstable, the image may interrupt or twitch, which significantly reduces the quality of the user experience.
Preparation of equipment and network
The foundation of successful broadcasting is the correct organization of the local network. The most important rule is that the mobile device and the TV must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If you have a dual-band router, make sure that gadgets are not “split” at different frequencies (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), although modern routers often combine them into a single network with a common name (SSID).
Check the software version of your TV. Manufacturers regularly release updates that fix data protocol errors and improve compatibility with new smartphones. To check for updates, go to Settings → About TV → System Update.
💡
Use a 5GHz network to stream 4K video, as it provides higher bandwidth and is less prone to interference from neighboring routers.
You should also pay attention to the distance between the router and the TV, and if the signal is weak, the data rate will drop, and the picture will fall apart into pixels, and ideally the router should be in line of sight or through one wall from the receiver of the signal.
Activation of the feature on the Xiaomi TV
On Xiaomi TVs with PatchWall shell or pure Android TV, the signal reception function is usually built-in by default and does not require third-party apps to be installed. However, in some regions or older versions of firmware, manual activation of the service may be required.
To enable the connection standby mode, perform the following actions:
- 📺 Click the “Menu” button on the remote and select the “Applications” section».
- 📡 Find an icon called “Miracast,” “Wireless Broadcast,” or “Translation».
- ✅ Launch the app and leave it open on the welcome screen.
In some Redmi and Mi TVs, this module can be hidden in the depths of system settings. If you don't find a shortcut on the home screen, try looking in Settings → Network and Internet → Connecting to a wireless display. Once activated, the TV will go into listening mode and be visible to other devices.
☑️ Checking the TV's readiness
It is important to note that on some firmware, the app is called Cast or has the Chromecast built-in logo. In this case, a separate launch is not required, it is enough that the TV is turned on.
Broadcast from Android-smartphone
Android smartphone owners have several ways to connect, as the Miracast protocol is native to this platform. the interface may differ depending on the phone manufacturer (Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei), but the essence of the action remains the same.
The standard algorithm of actions is as follows:
- Lower the “curtain” of notifications on the smartphone.
- Find the icon “Translation”, “Smart View”, “Projection” or “Connect to a wireless display”.
- In the list of available devices, select your Xiaomi TV.
- Confirm the connection if a request appears on the TV screen.
If you can't find a TV by standard means, you can use the Google Home app, which allows you to stream the screen through the Chromecast protocol, which is also supported by Xiaomi TVs. Open the app, select your TV, and click the Translate screen button.
⚠️ Note: When using the Full Screen Translation feature, the sound is also transmitted to the TV. If you want to listen to audio via your phone, switch the output in the Bluetooth or media player settings.
For users of Xiaomi smartphones (MIUI/HyperOS), there is an additional handy tool called Translation in the control center, which allows not only to duplicate the screen, but also to run specific video files or photos directly from the gallery, choosing the output device.
AirPlay setup for iPhone and iPad owners
Apple devices use its own AirPlay 2 protocol, which is also supported by modern Xiaomi TVs, which allows iPhone and iPad owners to display images without installing additional apps if the TV is on the same network.
To begin the broadcast:
- 🍏 Open the “Control Point” on the iPhone (swipe down from the upper right corner).
- 📲 Click on the screen repeat icon (two rectangles).
- 📺 Select your TV from the list.
In some cases, a confirmation code may appear on the TV screen that you need to enter on your iPhone, a security measure to prevent unauthorized access to your screen, and once you enter, the code will no longer be required for that device.
What to do if AirPlay is not working?
Image quality is usually better through AirPlay than Miracast, thanks to better codec optimization, but latency can be noticeable in games, so this method is better suited for viewing videos and photos.
Use of third-party applications
If the built-in tools don't work or your router doesn't support direct Wi-Fi Direct, third-party apps come to the rescue, and they create a software bridge between your phone and your TV using a local area network.
One of the most popular solutions is the Web Video Caster or TV Cast app, which is simple: you install an app on your phone and (sometimes) a companion app on your TV through the Google Play store.
| Annex | Platform TV | Features | Advertising |
|---|---|---|---|
| Web Video Caster | Android TV | Great work with subtitles. | It's in the free version. |
| TV Cast | Any Smart TV | It works through a browser | Intrusive. |
| LocalCast | Chromecast/Miracast | Support for NAS and Cloud | Minimum. |
The use of third-party software is especially important if you need to broadcast content from browsers that block the output to the external screen (DRM-In such cases, applications can emulate the flow bypassing constraints.
⚠️ Warning: Be careful of free apps from unknown sources that may collect data about your network or display excessive amounts of ads overriding content.
For advanced users, there is a possibility of installing ADB-commands to activate hidden broadcast debugging functions, but this requires a computer and cable USB. The average user is enough functionality of standard applications from the market.
Resolving and eliminating delays
Even with the right setup, there can be problems: audio and video out of sync, connection breaks, or low resolution, most often because of an overloaded Wi-Fi channel.
The main causes of the problems:
- 📶 Weak Wi-Fi signal (less than 2 divisions).
- 💻 Simultaneous download of the channel by torrents or downloading files.
- 🔄 Outdated Wi-Fi module drivers in the TV.
💡
If the image slows down, try to reduce the quality of the video in the source app or bring the router closer to the TV.
If the sound is behind the video, try rebooting both devices. Often, temporary buffers overflow and require cleaning. Also check if the TV is on Movie or Sport mode, which adds software-based image processing delay.
In rare cases, resetting your TV's network settings helps. Go to Settings → Network → Reset network settings, then re-enter the Wi-Fi password. This is a DNS cache and can improve the connection.
