The wallpaper carousel on the Xiaomi Mi 9 is one of the most controversial features of the MIUI shell. On the one hand, it offers quick access to changing background images, but on the other - takes up space on the home screen, slows the system and often shows unnecessary recommendations. If you are tired of automatically updated wallpaper, advertising banners in the tape or just want to make room for widgets - this instruction will help you completely turn off the carousel without losing the functionality of the smartphone.
Complicating the problem is that different versions of MIUI (from 10 to 14) have different methods of deleting, where you need to disable one setting, and somewhere you need to use ADB or even edit system files. We tested all the current methods on Mi 9 (codename cepheus) and selected those that work stable. Importantly, some methods require developer or unlocked bootloader rights, we will warn you about this in advance.

1. Method: Disabling the carousel through the theme settings
The easiest and safest method is to use the built-in MIUI options. It is suitable for most users and does not require technical skills. However, it does not work on all versions of the firmware: in MIUI 12.5+, Xiaomi has partially removed this option, so if you have a new version, move to the next section.
Instructions:
- Open the Themes app (icon with brush and palette).
- Go to the Wallpaper section (the tab at the bottom of the screen).
- Slap the icon. ⚙️ (Settings) in upper right corner.
- Find the wallpaper carousel option and move the slider to the off position..
- Confirm the action if a request appears.
If you don't have a wallpaper on the carousel, your MIUI version doesn't support it, and then try an alternative way:
- Hold your finger on the empty spot on the main screen.
- Select Screen Settings (or Launcher Settings).
- Scroll down and find the wallpaper carousel or recommended wallpaper.

2. Method: Removal via ADB (without root)
If the carousel doesn’t turn off via the menu, the next step is to use Android Debug Bridge (ADB). This method works on all versions. MIUI It does not require the rights of a superuser, but requires a computer and USB-The idea is to disable the system applications that are responsible for the carousel without physically removing them.

- 📱 Xiaomi Mi 9 with enabled debugging USB

Step-by-step:
- Turn on USB debugging: Go to Settings → About Phone. Tap 7 times on MIUI to activate Developer Mode. Go back to Settings → Additional → For Developers. Activate USB debugging and confirm permission.
Connect your phone to your PC

Open the command line.
Take the commands in turn.

⚠️ Note: If the carousel returned after the reboot, then the applications were updated through Google Play. In this case, repeat the procedure and additionally do: pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.miwallpaper pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.miwallpaper.editor

How to delete:
- Install a file manager with root support (such as Root Explorer or Solid Explorer).
- Go to /system/priv-app/ or /system/app/.
- Find folders with names: MiuiMiWallPaper MiWallpaperEditor
.bak

Reboot the phone.
If after removing the wallpaper reset to standard, install an alternative launcher (for example, Nova Launcher) and adjust the background through it.

4. Method: Using Package Disabler (without root)
If ADB seems complicated and you don’t want to get root, you can use Package Disabler (or similar, for example, App Quarantine) to freeze system apps without removing them, which is safer and reversible.
Instructions:
- Download Package Disabler from Google Play.
- Provide the application with the rights through ADB (if required: adb shell pm grant com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro android.permission.CHANGE_COMPONENT_ENABLED_STATE
- In the search, type miwallpaper.
- Check the boxes: 📌 com.miui.miwallpaper 📌 com.miui.miwallpaper.editor
Shut down.
Advantages of the method:

Disadvantages:

Package Disabler is the safest way to turn off the carousel without consequences. If something goes wrong, just turn the app back on in the same app.
5. Method: Resetting cache and wallpaper application data
Sometimes the carousel keeps running because of the cached data, and then the reset will help:
Steps:
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Find and select: Wallpaper (com.miui.miwallpaper) Wallpaper Editor (com.miui.miwallpaper.editor)
- 🧹 Clear the cache
- 🗑️ Clear the data (Warning: all user wallpaper will be reset!)
- ⚙️ Disconnect (if there is an option)
- Reboot the phone.
⚠️ Note: On some firmware, a data reset of the com.miui.miwallpaper application causes the Wallpaper app to stop. In this case, reset your phone in Safe Mode (press the power button). → Reboot to Safe Mode and reset again.
Method: Installation of an alternative launcher
If no method has worked, the radical solution is to switch from the standard MIUI launcher to a third-party launcher, which not only removes the carousel, but also adds new features to the screen setting.
