The emoji keyboard on Xiaomi Redmi smartphones often gets inappropriate: it takes up space on the screen, distracts from typing, or even substitutes emojis for messages on its own. This is especially annoying for users who prefer a minimalist interface or work with documents where emojis are inappropriate. In this article, we will examine all possible ways to disconnect from standard MIUI settings to hidden commands for experienced users.
Complicating the problem is that different versions of the firmware (MIUI 12, 13, 14 and HyperOS) have different keyboard settings, and the manufacturer does not always provide a direct option to remove the emoji keys β sometimes it has to be disabled through system files or ADB. We tested all methods on the Redmi Note 10/11/12, Redmi 9/10 and flagships of the K series, so the instructions are relevant for most devices of the brand.
Important: Some methods require root rights or a PC connection. If you're a beginner, start with the first two methods, which are the safest and don't require technical skills.
1. Disabling emojis through the settings of the standard keyboard
The easiest way to hide the emoji bar is to hide it in the MIUI keyboard itself (aka Gboard in the newer versions), which works on most devices without any further manipulation:
- Open any field to enter text (for example, in Messages or Notes).
- Touch the gear badge (βοΈ) on the keyboard to go to its settings.
- Select Settings β Preferences β Show the emoji button.
- Move the slider to the off position.
If there is no such item, try an alternative path:
- π± Phone settings β Additional settings β Language and input β Current keyboard (Gboard or keyboard) MIUI)
- π In the search by settings, type βemojiβ β sometimes the option is hidden in the submenu Advanced Features.
- βοΈ On some firmware you need to disable Auto Replace emoji in the Text Input section.
β οΈ Attention: MIUI 14 and HyperOS button emoji may disappear from the settings after the update. in this case, use methods 2 or 3.
2. Removal of emojis through language and input settings
If the first method didnβt work, try disabling the emoji system-level, a method that is suitable for devices where the keyboard is integrated into firmware (e.g., Redmi 9A or Redmi 8):
- Go to Settings β Additional settings β Language and input.
- Click on Current Keyboard (or Keyboard Management).
- Select the keyboard you use (such as the MIUI or Gboard keyboard).
- In the Text Input section, find the Emoji or Smiley option and turn it off.
Some devices (Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi K30) may require:
- π Switch to another keyboard (like SwiftKey) where emojis are more easily turned off.
- π² Remove updates to the keyboard MIUI In Settings β Annexes β Application management.
- π§ Reset the keyboard settings to factory (in the same menu Language and input).

3. Hiding emojis through ADB (no root)
If standard methods do not help, you can turn off the emoji-clave through ADB-This method does not require superuser rights, but requires a computer with installed Xiaomi drivers and tools. ADB.
Step-by-step:
- Download Googleβs Platform Tools and unpack the archive.
- Turn on USB Debugging on your phone: Settings β About Phone β MIUI version (click 7 times to activate Developer Mode), then go back to Additional Settings β For Developers β Debugging on USB.
- Connect the phone to the PC and in the command line (in the folder with the ADB) If the device is displayed, type: adb shell settings put secure emoji_recently_used 0 adb shell settings put secure emoji_replacement 0
To completely remove the emoji panel, use:
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.android.inputmethod.latinThen restart the phone.
β οΈ Note: pm disable-user commands may cause other keyboard functions to malfunction. Create a restore point in Settings before executing β Additionally. β Recovery and discharge.
What if the ADB canβt see the device?
4. Delete emojis through editing system files (root)
For root-right users, there's a radical way to delete the system files that are responsible for the emoji, which permanently removes the emoji bar, so only use it if other options don't work.
Instructions:
- Install a file manager with root support (such as Root Explorer or Solid Explorer).
- Go to /system/usr/keyboard/ or /system/app/Keyboard/
- Find files with names: Emoji.apk or EmojiOverlay.apk LatinIME.odex (if any)
Rename them by adding.bak at the end (e.g. Emoji.apk.bak).
Reboot the phone.
| Model phone | The path to emoji files | Recommended method |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10/11 | /system/priv-app/Keyboard/ | ADB or disabling in settings |
| Redmi 9/9A/9C | /system/app/LatinIME/ | File editing (root) |
| Redmi K40/K50 | /system/product/overlay/ | ADB-team |
| POCO X3/X4 | /system/system_ext/priv-app/ | Resetting keyboard settings |
π‘
Before editing system files, back up /system/ via TWRP or an application like Titanium Backup to help restore the keyboard if something goes wrong.
5.Using third-party keyboards without emojis
If neither method worked, the easiest way to install an alternative keyboard is to have the emoji switched off in two clicks. The best options for Xiaomi Redmi are:
- π± SwiftKey β allows you to completely hide the emoji panel in the settings (Settings) β Layout and keyboards β Emoji).
- π€ Fleksy β Minimalist keyboard without unnecessary elements (emoji are turned off in Settings) β Extended).
- β¨οΈ AnySoftKeyboard β open source, supports customization without emoji.
- π» Hackerβs Keyboard β for developers, without default emojis.
How to install and configure:
- Download the keyboard from Google Play (like SwiftKey).
- Activate it in Settings β Language and input β Current keyboard.
- In the settings of the new keyboard, find the Emoji or Smiley section and turn them off.
β οΈ Note: Some keyboards (such as Gboard) can automatically update and return emojis. To avoid this, turn off auto-update for the app on Google Play.
π‘
Third-party keyboards not only remove emojis, but also offer additional features: gestures, themes, cloud-based dictionary sync, which is the best option if you want to improve typing, not just hide emojis.
6. Reset keyboard settings to factory
If the emojis are coming after a firmware update or a crash, resetting the keyboard will help, and this method will bring all parameters back to standard, including languages and layout:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the MIUI or Gboard keyboard and open its settings.
- Click Warehouse β Clear the data and Clear the cache.
- Reboot the phone.
After discharge:
- π The Emoji Klav must disappear, but we will have to re-tuning languages and auto-replacement.
- π² If the problem persists, try resetting all phone settings (without deleting data): Settings β Additionally. β Recovery and discharge β Resetting settings.
- π§ Nana MIUI 14 after reset, it may be necessary to re-disable the emoji in the keyboard settings (see Method 1).
7. disable emojis via Safe Mode (Safe Mode)
If the emoji key appears due to conflict with other apps (for example, after installing a launcher or themes), check the phone in Safe Mode:
- Press the power button on the phone turned off.
- Hold your finger on the Turn off option until the prompt to switch to Safe Mode appears.
- Confirm the transition. The phone will reboot with third-party apps disabled.
- Check if the emoji panel has disappeared. If so, delete the newly installed programs.
Frequent culprits:
- π¨ Topics MIUI (especially third-party Theme Store).
- π± Launchers like Nova Launcher or Microsoft Launcher.
- π§ Applications for customization of the interface (Xposed, Substratum).
π‘
Safe mode helps to identify conflicting software, but does not solve the problem forever. Once out of mode, emojis can return, if not eliminate the cause.
