Creating a Google account on a Xiaomi TV is a must for full use of Android TV services: installing apps from Google Play, syncing YouTube bookmarks, access to Google Assistant and cloud services. Without a linked profile, many functions will be blocked, and the system will constantly remind you to log in. In this article, we will analyze all the current ways of registration, from the standard method through the remote to bypassing errors when creating an account.
Xiaomi TVs (Mi TV A Pro, Mi TV Q2, Redmi Smart TV and others) are based on Android TV with PatchWall branded shell, which imposes limitations: for example, you can not create an account directly through a web browser TV, like on a smartphone. You have to use a remote, mobile application or even reset. We tested all methods on models 2021-2026 — the instructions are relevant for the latest versions of the firmware.
Why does Xiaomi TV require a Google account?
The authorization requirement is related to Google’s policy for Android TV devices.
- 🚫 Access to Google Play Market is blocked – you can not install apps (for example, Netflix, Kinopoisk, IVI).
- 🚫 Voice commands don’t work through Google Assistant (even if you have a microphone in the remote).
- 🚫 No synchronization with other devices: YouTube browsing history, Chrome bookmarks, Google Fit data.
- 🚫 Limited functionality of Xiaomi branded applications (for example, Mi Home for smart home).
In addition, without an account, the system can automatically reset settings after updates if previously associated with another profile.This is due to the Factory Reset Protection (FRP) mechanism, which is activated on Android TV after a reset.
⚠️ Note: If you bought a Xiaomi TV from hand, the previous owner may not have logged out of your account, in which case you will need a full reset (section 4), otherwise you will not be able to link the new profile.
Method 1: Creating an account via remote control (main method)
This is the easiest option that works on most Xiaomi Mi TV and Redmi TV models. You will need only a remote control and a stable Internet connection (via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable).
Instructions:
- Turn on the TV and wait for the PatchWall home screen to load.
- Go to Settings → Accounts and Security → Add an account.
- Select Google from the list of available services.
- Click Create an Account (if you already have a profile, select Login).
- Fill in the data: 📝 Name and surname (Latin). 📧 Email address (will be login). 🔑 Password (minimum 8 characters, with numbers and letters). 📅 Date of birth (must match passport data for restoration).

Follow the instructions on your smartphone screen to create a new profile.
The advantage of this method is that text input is done on a smartphone (rather than a cumbersome remote keyboard), which speeds up the process. In addition, the Google TV app allows you to control the TV as a remote control, which is convenient for further customization.
Method 3: Resetting settings to bypass errors
If previous methods failed (e.g., the TV gives an error "Device is already linked to another account"), a complete reset will be required, which will delete all data, including applications and saved Wi-Fi passwords, but allow you to create a new account.
How to reset your settings:
- Open Settings → About TV → Reset settings.
- Select Delete all data (not “Factory Reset” as this may not remove the account link!).
- Confirm the action with a password (if it was installed).
- Wait for the reboot (it will take 3-5 minutes).
- After activating, repeat method 1 (creating an account via the remote).
- Security: 🔐 Install. PIN-code for purchases in Google Play (Settings) → Security → Control of purchases). 📱 Connect two-factor authentication for a Google account (via smartphone).
