Xiaomi Redmi 6 is one of the most popular budget smartphones of 2018, but even years later, many users have difficulty creating screenshots. Unlike flagship models, there is no separate button for taking a screenshot, and gestures are often disabled by default. In this article, we will analyze all the working methods, including hidden MIUI features, and explain why sometimes screenshots “disappear” after creation.

Important: The instruction is relevant for Redmi 6 (codename cereus) on MIUI firmware 9-12.5. If you have custom firmware (like LineageOS), some methods may not work, we’ll mention that too.

1. Classic method: power buttons + volume reduction

It’s a versatile method that works on all Android smartphones, including Redmi 6.

1. Open the screen you want to capture (like a WhatsApp dialog or a page in Chrome).
2. Hold it together: 🔘 Power button (right) 🔊 Volume down button (left)

Where to look for a finished screenshot?

• 📁 In the Gallery: Open the Gallery app → Screenshots folder (Screenshots).
• 🔍 File Manager: Internal Memory → Pictures → Screenshots.
• 🖼️ In the notification: immediately after creation, a preview will appear with the buttons “Share” and “Delete».

2. Three finger gesture (the fastest way)

Screenshot by gesture is available on Redmi 6 with MIUI 9 firmware and newer, but is disabled by default to activate it:

1. Go to Settings → Additional → Buttons and gestures → Screenshot by gesture.
2. Turn on the switch opposite Swipe three fingers down.
3. (Optional) Set up a long screenshot for the scrollable pages.

Now, to take a screenshot:

1. Place three fingers on the screen (for example, index, middle and ring finger).
2. Move them from top to bottom in one quick move.

💡 Tip: If the gesture doesn't work, try it:

• 🧹 Wipe the screen from the fat (the sensor may not recognize the touch).
• 🔄 Reboot your phone – sometimes sensor failures interfere with gestures.
• 📱 Make sure Full-screen gestures are enabled (in screen settings).

3. Screenshot via notification panel

If the physical buttons are broken or the gesture is uncomfortable, use the virtual button in the notification curtain:

1. Pull the notification curtain down (with one finger for a quick menu or two for a full disclosure).
2. Find the screenshot icon (usually scissors) 🧷 lightning-block).
3. Slip on it - the picture will be taken in 1-2 seconds.

1. Open the curtain completely and tap on ⚙️ Edit.

4. Voice command via Google Assistant

If you need to take a screenshot without touching the screen (for example, when recording a video from the screen), use the voice assistant:

1. Activate Google Assistant: Long press home (if physical) with a voice command, "OK, Google."

🔹 Limitations:

• 🚫 It does not work in games and some applications (for example, TikTok blocks screenshots).
• 🔇 Requires a microphone turned on and an internet connection (to process commands).
• 📵 On some firmware MIUI Voice screenshots disabled by default.

If Google Assistant doesn't recognize a command, try saying it in English: "Take a screenshot." Often this works even on Russian-language firmware.

5. Third-party screenshot applications

If standard methods don’t work (for example, because of broken buttons or custom firmware), install one of these applications:

A common problem on Redmi 6 is that the screenshot is taken (sound is there, animation is there), but the gallery doesn't have it.

• 🔄 If screenshots disappear after rebooting, check your Optimization settings MIUI (Settings → Battery → Optimization – sometimes the system deletes “unnecessary” files.
• 📁 By default, screenshots are saved in Pictures/Screenshots. If there is no folder, create it manually.
• 🛠️ On custom firmware may need to install a module MIUI Screenshot via Magisk.
