Have you bought a Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO smartphone with Chinese firmware and encountered characters on the menu? Or your smart device (such as Mi Band or Mi Smart Clock) refuses to show Russian? This problem is familiar to many who buy Xiaomi equipment at international venues or in informal stores. Fortunately, you can translate the interface into Russian in several ways, from simple change of language in settings to complete flashing of the device.
In this article, we will discuss all the current methods of translation of Xiaomi into Russian, including:
- π± Change the language in standard settings MIUI (if the option is available)
- π Update the firmware through official and informal channels
- π οΈ Russification through ADB and third-party utilities
- βοΈ Features for smart watches, bracelets and other Xiaomi equipment
You will also learn which Xiaomi models do not support Russian at the hardware level and what to do in such cases. Instructions are suitable for devices from 2020 to 2026, including the latest versions of MIUI 14/15 and HyperOS.
1. Check current firmware and available languages
Before trying to Russify the device, make sure it doesnβt really have Russian, and in some cases, the problem lies in the wrong settings of the region or hidden options.
To check the available languages:
- Open the settings (cog icon).
- Go to Additional Settings β Language and Input β Language and Region.
- Scroll down the list β if there is Russian, select it and restart the device.
If there is no Russian, pay attention to the firmware version:
- π¨π³ MIUI CN β Chinese firmware (often without Russian).
- π MIUI Global - international firmware (supported by Russian).
- πͺπΊ MIUI EE β European firmware (Russian is available, but may not be available Google services).
- π·πΊ MIUI RU β Russian firmware (optimized for Russia).
You can find out the firmware version in Settings β About Phone β MIUI version. If it says CN, you will have to update or reflash.
How to distinguish fake firmware from official?
2. Method 1: Change the language through settings (if Russian is hidden)
Sometimes, the Russian language is available in Xiaomi, but it is hidden due to regional restrictions.
Change region to Russia |Reboot device |Check list of languages again |If there is no Russian, bring the region back
-->
Detailed steps:
- Open Settings β Additional settings β Language and input β Region.
- Choose Russia (Russia or Russian Federation).
- Go back to the language section and check if Russian has appeared.
- If a language appears, select it and confirm the change.
β οΈ Note: On some devices (e.g. Redmi Note 10 Pro with a MIUI CN) Changing the region can cause network settings to reset!
If the Russian never appeared, proceed to the next method.
3. Method 2: Update firmware via OTA or Recovery
The safest way to Russify is to upgrade to a global or Russian firmware, and there are two ways to do this:
Updating by Air (OTA)
If your device supports MIUI Global, try updating through the built-in system:
- Connect to Wi-Fi.
- Go to Settings β About the phone β System update.
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select Select Service Pack.
- Download the official firmware for your model from en.miui.com (choose Global or Russia).
- Upload the file to your phoneβs memory and select it from the update menu.
Update via Recovery
If OTA is not working, use Recovery Mode:
- Download the.zip firmware for your model (for example, redmi_note12_global_images_...).
- Rename the file to update.zip and place it in the root of internal memory.
- Turn off the phone, then press Volume Up + Power to enter Recovery.
- Select Install update.zip (use volume buttons for navigation).
- Confirm the installation and wait for completion.
π‘
Before updating via Recovery, back up your data! in the Recovery menu, select Backup to save custom files.
β οΈ Note: Some Chinese devices (Redmi) K50, POCO F4 In this case, before the firmware, you need to unlock it through the official Mi Unlock tool!
Method 3: Russification through ADB (for power users)
If you canβt update your firmware (for example, on the POCO M4 Pro with the bootloader locked), you can try forcefully changing the language through the ADB (Android Debug Bridge), which does not change the firmware, but allows you to activate hidden languages.
You'll need:
- π₯οΈ Computer with installed Xiaomi and ADB-tools drivers.
- π± Included Debugging by USB on the phone (Settings) β The phone. β Version. MIUI β Press 7 times, then return to the Additional Settings β For developers).
- π Cable USB Type-C (preferably original).
Instructions:
- Connect your phone to your PC and open the Command Prompt in the ADB folder.
- Enter the command to check the connection: adb devices must appear serial number of the device.
- Follow the command to change the language to Russian: adb shell "am start -n com.android.settings/.LanguageSettings" Then manually select Russian from the menu that opens.
- If the language does not change, try to force the locale: adb shell setprop persist.sys.locale ru-RU and restart the phone.
β οΈ Note: On some devices (Xiaomi) 13T, Redmi Note 12 Turbo) This method only works until the first reboot.
5. Russification of Xiaomi smart devices (watches, bracelets, lamps)
Xiaomiβs smart gadgets are more complicated, with many of them (Mi Band 7/8, Mi Smart Clock, Mi Home Security Camera) not native to Russian.
| The device | The Russification Method | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Band 6/7/8 | Change of region in the Mi Fitness app to Russia | The menu language will remain English, but notifications will be in Russian. |
| Mi Smart Clock | Firmware via Mi Home with Russian region | Reset to factory settings required |
| Xiaomi Smart Camera | Installation of Russian voice through Mi Home | Voice commands are only available in English. |
| POCO Watch | Change the language in the clock settings (if available) | Some models are not Russian. |
For Mi Band and other fitness trackers:
- Install the Mi Fitness app (not Zepp!).
- In the account settings, select the region of Russia.
- Untie and reconnect the bracelet.
β οΈ Note: Mi Band 8 Pro and Xiaomi Watch S3 Russian may not be available even after a change in the region, in which case only informal firmware (for example, from the community) will help. 4PDA).
6. Method 4: Install custom firmware (last chance)
If none of these methods work, you have to install unofficial Russian firmware, which is a risky way to do this, but it works even on locked devices.
Popular firmware for Xiaomi:
- π Xiaomi.eu β modified MIUI Russian- and Chinese-free.
- π LineageOS β βcleanβ Android with support for Russian.
Instructions (on the example of Xiaomi.eu):
- Unlock the bootloader through the Mi Unlock Tool (see official page).
- Download the firmware Xiaomi.eu for your model from the forum.
- Install TWRP Recovery (instructions are available on 4PDA).
- Boot to TWRP (Loudness Up + Power), make a backup and flash the downloaded.zip.
β οΈ Warning: Unofficial firmware may contain bugs! on Xiaomi 12T redmi K60 known problems with NFC and camera after installing custom assemblies.
π‘
Installing an unofficial firmware will void the warranty and may result in a device blink. Use this method only if other methods have failed!
7. Frequent mistakes and how to avoid them
When russifying Xiaomi, users often face typical problems. Here's how to solve them:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| After changing the language, part of the menu remains in Chinese. | Not all system applications are Russified | Update them manually through the Mi App Store or install Google Play |
| The phone is not updated through OTA | It's worth CN's Chinese firmware | Download the full Global package and go through Recovery |
| ADB does not see the device | Not installed drivers or not included debugging | Install Mi PC Suite and check the developer settings |
| After the firmware does not work mobile network | Inconsistency of modem version | Select the modem.img file for your region |
If Google services are lost after Russification (for example, on MIUI EE), install them manually:
- Download Open GApps (select ARM64, Android 12/13).
- Sweat through TWRP after installing the firmware.
