The T9 mode (automatic word prompting when typed) on Xiaomi smartphones is often a source of annoyance: it corrects words incorrectly, slows down printing or offers irrelevant options. This is especially noticeable in MIUI 14/15, where auto-replacement algorithms have become more aggressive. In this article, we will examine all the ways to disable the T9, from standard keyboard settings to hidden developer parameters.
It’s important to understand that the T9 is not a single feature, but a set of technologies: auto-replace, word prompts and typo fixing. On Xiaomi, these settings can be duplicated in different menus (for example, in System Settings and in the keyboard itself), which makes it difficult to find a solution. We tested all methods on the Redmi Note 12 Pro+, POCO X5 Pro and Mi 11 Ultra models – instructions are relevant for 2026.
1. disable the T9 in the standard MIUI keyboard
Most Xiaomi users use the branded MIUI Keyboard (formerly Mi Keyboard), where the T9 settings are hidden deeper than in Gboard, but can be turned off without installing third-party apps.
To get to the right menu:
- Open any field to enter text (such as Messages or Notes).
- Touch the gear badge (⚙️) on the keyboard to open its settings.
- Go to the text input → Auto-replacement and tips.
In this menu, you need to deactivate:

2. Setting up Gboard (Google Keyboard) on Xiaomi
Many Xiaomi users are installing Gboard as an alternative to the standard keyboard, where the T9 settings are more flexible, but are arranged differently, to disable auto-tips:
- Open Settings → System → Language and input → Virtual keyboard.
- Select Gboard (if it is not listed, install it from the Play Market).
- Go to text input settings → text correction.
In this section, deactivate:

- 💬 Input tips - word options over keys

For MIUI Keyboard:
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Find MIUI Keyboard and select Warehouse.
- Click Clear Data (this will delete all user words).
For Gboard:
- Open the Gboard settings (as in the previous section).

- Remove all added words or reset the dictionary completely.

If standard methods don't work, you can use developer mode, which is suitable for advanced users, because it requires changes in system settings.
First, activate the developer mode:
- Go to Settings. → The phone.
- Click 7 times on the MIUI version until you become a developer!
Now:
- Back to Settings → Additionally. → For developers.
- Find the USB Debugging option and activate it (this is a must to access hidden settings).
- Scroll down to the text entry section.
- Turn off Show Input Tips and Automatic Correction.
Warning: Changing the settings in developer mode can lead to unstable keyboard operation. If Swipe gestures or voice input stop working after T9 is turned off, return the settings to the original state.

6 Problems after T9 shutdown and their solutions
