Screenshots on Xiaomi Redmi are a basic feature that everyone can use, from saving important correspondence to fixing bugs in apps. But even experienced users often donβt know about all the methods available. In this article, weβll look at not only the standard button combinations, but also the hidden features of MIUI that will simplify the process. For example, did you know that some Redmi models can take screenshots with voice or triple touch?
The manufacturer regularly updates the firmware, and with the release of MIUI 14/15 new gestures have appeared. We tested all methods on the current smartphones of the Redmi Note 12/13, Redmi 10/11 and POCO X5 series - the instructions are universal for 90% of the brand's devices. If your model is older than 2018, check the section with alternative solutions for outdated versions of MIUI.
1. Standard method: button combination
The most reliable method that works on all Xiaomi smartphones is the simultaneous pressing of physical buttons, which is suitable even for devices with a broken sensor (if the buttons are correct).
The algorithm is simple:
- π Press and hold the power button (on/lock) on the right side of the smartphone.
- π Press the volume down button at the same time (located on the left or right, depending on the model).
- π― Hold both buttons. 1-2 seconds until you hear the shutter sound or see the animation screenshot.
On models with MIUI 12+, after you take a screenshot, you'll see a quick action panel at the bottom of the screen.
- βοΈ Edit the picture (shortcutting, drawing, adding text).
- π€ Share immediately through messengers.
- ποΈ Delete screenshot without saving to the gallery.
- π Save to the cloud Mi Cloud (if your account is connected).
βοΈ Checking before screenshot
Important for owners of Redmi Note 8/9: on these models, the power button sometimes works with a delay. If the screenshot does not work the first time, try pressing the volume button 0.5 seconds earlier.
2. Screenshot with three fingers (MIUI gesture)
The MIUI firmware feature is the ability to take screenshots without buttons, in one movement, and is enabled by default on most devices, but it can be configured or disabled.
How it works:
- Place three fingers (usually index, middle and ring fingers) on the screen.
- Swipe them down the screen in one quick move (as if you were swiping down).
If the gesture doesn't work:
- π§ Go to Settings. β Special facilities β Gestures β Screenshot with three fingers.
- π Make sure the switch is active (blue slider).
- π± On some models (Redmi) 9A, Redmi 8 requires pre-enabled option in Settings β Additionally. β Buttons and gestures.
π‘
If you have long nails, try to make a gesture not with the pads of the fingers, but with their lateral parts - so the sensor better recognizes the touch.
On the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ and later, the gesture works even on a locked screen (if the option is enabled in the security settings).
3. Voice assistant and commands
Few people know, but Xiaomi has built in the ability to create voice-over screenshots without touching the screen. This is convenient if your hands are busy or the sensor is faulty. The method works on all devices with MIUI 10+ and activated voice assistant.
Instructions:
- Activate the voice assistant: π€ Press the home button for a long time (on models with a physical button). π£οΈ Or say βOK Googleβ (if youβre setting up Google Assistant).
- Take a screenshot (for the Russian-language assistant Xiao AI).
- Take a screenshot (for Google Assistant)
Limitations of the method:
- β It doesnβt work in some apps (e.g. TikTok, Instagram Stories).
- β Maximum length: 10 screens (on Redmi Note 10 and newer).
- β Chrome can crop the bottom of the page (solution β use read mode).
