Introduction: Why do you need screenshots on a Xiaomi laptop?
Screenshots are a versatile tool for saving important information, showing errors, or creating manuals. On Xiaomi Notebook 10 S laptops, you can take a screenshot in several ways, but many users face difficulties: standard keyboard combinations do not work, an image is not saved or the picture is cropped. In this article, we will discuss all the current methods for creating screenshots, including hotkeys, built-in Windows tools and specialized programs.
The Xiaomi Notebook 10 S features a compact keyboard without a separate Print Screen key, which confuses new owners. In addition, depending on Windows version (10 or 11) and the build of MIUI for PC (if installed), the methods may differ. We tested each method on a real device and prepared unique recommendations for this model that are not in the standard instructions.
Method 1: Standard Hotkeys (works without installing programs)
The fastest way to take a screenshot of the Xiaomi Notebook 10 S is to use key combinations. On this laptop, the Print Screen key is paired with Fn, so you'll have to use the function button. Here are all the working options:
- π₯οΈ Fn + PrtSc (or Fn) + Insert: Copies the entire screen to the clipboard, paste the image into Paint, Word, or other editor using Ctrl. + V.
- π Win + PrtSc β saves the screenshot automatically to the folder C:\Users\User name\Pictures\Screenshots (folder is created by the system at the first use).
- β¨οΈ Alt + PrtSc β only copies the active window (without the desktop background) to the buffer).
β οΈ Note: Some versions of Xiaomi Notebook 10 S with preinstalled MIUI for PC PrtSc can be disabled by default. To activate it, go to Settings. β Devices β Keyboard and enable the option "Use the PrtSc key to take screenshots".
Check that the Fn key is not locked (the indicator on the Num Lock key must be on)
Make sure there is enough space on your hard drive (screenshots take 1-5 MB each)
Close the windows if you want to take a clean photo.
Turn off notifications so they donβt get caught in the frame.-->
Method 2: Scissors Tool (Windows 10/11)
If the hotkeys are uncomfortable or not working, use the built-in Scissors Tool, which allows you to select an arbitrary area of the screen, add annotations and save pictures in different formats, to open the tool:
- Press Win + S and enter Scissors (or Snipping Tool for English Windows).
- Select a mode: π Arbitrary form β draw the area with a mouse. πͺ The window captures the active window. πΌοΈ Full screen β a snapshot of the entire screen. π Rectangle - Standard allocated fragment.
After the area is allocated, an editor will open where you can add text, arrows or crop edges.
π‘ Useful tip: Windows 11 tool "Scissors" updated β now it supports recording video from the screen (up to 30 seconds) and save in the video GIF. To enable this feature, click on the camera icon in the upper right corner of the utility window.

Few people know, but Windows 10/11 has a built-in gamebar that can take screenshots and record videos, which is originally designed for gaming, but works with regular applications, and the advantage of this method is the ability to link its own keyboard and automatically save pictures to the OneDrive cloud.
To take a screenshot through the game panel:
- Open the desired window or application.
- Press Win + G and the button panel will appear.
- Click on the camera icon (or click Win + Alt + PrtSc).
- The screenshot will be saved in C:\Users\Username\Videos\Captures.
π§ How to install and configure:
- Download the program from the official website (for example, ShareX).
- When installing, uncheck the boxes for unnecessary components (such as Yandex Browser or McAfee, which often come with the bundle).
- Run the program and assign convenient hotkeys in the settings (for example, Ctrl + Shift + S for Lightshot).
- In the βUploadβ section, select where to save screenshots (by default, this is the Pictures folder).

Method 5: Screenshots with touch screen (if any)
Xiaomi Notebook 10 S models with touchscreen display (such as Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro X 15 in some regions) support gesture screenshots, which is convenient if the keyboard is not available or you are using the device in tablet mode.
- Open the screen.
- Swipe your finger from the right edge of the screen to the center (as when calling the notification bar).
- In the menu that appears, select the screenshot icon (it looks like a camera).
- The screenshot will be saved in the Pictures\Screenshots folder.
β οΈ Warning: If the gesture doesn't work, check the touch screen settings in Settings β Devices β Touchbar: Make sure that Windows Gestures are enabled and conflicting programs are disabled (e.g., Xiaomi Touchpad Driver can block standard gestures).
