Introduction: Why you need saved passwords and where to look for them
Xiaomiβs current MIUI-based smartphones automatically store passwords from websites, apps and Wi-Fi networks to make logging easier. However, not everyone knows where that data is stored and how to extract it safely. Unlike iPhones, where passwords are synchronized via iCloud, Android (including Redmi, POCO and Mi) uses a combination of built-in Google Smart Lock tools and Xiaomiβs own solutions.
In this article, we will analyze all the official ways to view saved passwords β from the standard password manager. MIUI Up to the Hidden Features of Android 12/13/14. You will also learn how to export backup passwords and why some data may not show up correctly after resetting your phone to factory settings. 11/12/13/14 series, Redmi Note 10/11/12 and POCO F/X/M.
Method 1: View passwords through the βSettingsβ of MIUI
The easiest method is to use a built-in shell password manager MIUI. It works on all Xiaomi devices, regardless of Android version, but requires proof of identity (PIN-code, fingerprint or pattern lock).
To find the passwords saved:
- Open the Settings app (cog icon).
- Go to the Passwords and Security section β Password manager.
- Enter the screen lock password (if requested).
- Select category: Apps, Wi-Fi or Accounts.
This will show all the saved data, including logins and passwords from VK, Instagram, banking apps and other services. Please note that some passwords may be hidden β click on the eye icon to view them (re-authentication will be required).

Method 2: Using Google Smart Lock (for site passwords)

- π Open the Google Chrome browser on your phone.
- π Click on three dots in the upper right corner β Settings β Passwords.
- π Enter. PIN-code or fingerprint.
- π Scroll through the list of saved sites. To see the password, click on the line and select "Show password" (eye icon).
If passwords are not displayed, make sure that:

- In Google settings, the option Saving Passwords is enabled (Settings β Google β Managing Google Account β Security β Passwords).
- You did not use incognito modes or guest sessions when entering passwords.

β οΈ Note: On some Xiaomi models (e.g, POCO F1 or Redmi 7) Wi-Fi passwords may not be displayed due to manufacturer restrictions, in which case only viewing through root access will help.
Method 4: Exporting passwords for backup
If you plan to reset your phone to factory settings or upgrade to a new device, exporting passwords will help avoid losing them. MIUI doesn't provide a direct export feature, but it can be done through Google Smart Lock:
- Open your browser on your computer and go to passwords.google.com.
- Sign in with the same Google account as you do on your phone.
- Click on the three dots next to any saved password and select Export Passwords.
- Confirm the action by entering a password from your Google account.
- Download the.csv file and save it in a safe place (for example, on a flash drive or in the cloud with encryption).
Passwords from the MIUI manager will require manual input or use of third-party applications such as Password Exporter (available on Google Play).
- π Exported.csv files are stored in plain form β encrypt them with the help of 7-Zip or VeraCrypt.
- π΅ Do not send files with passwords by email or messengers.
- π After importing to a new device, check the performance of passwords (some services may require re-authorization).
What to do if the export does not work?
Method 5: Viewing passwords through root access (for advanced users)
If standard methods didnβt work, and password access is critical, root rights can be used, which is suitable for power users and requires unlocking the bootloader on Xiaomi.
Step-by-step:
- Unblock Bootloader through the official Xiaomi website (requires a binding Mi Account and wait 7-30 days).
- Install custom recovery (TWRP) and get root with Magisk.
- Download a root-enabled file manager (such as Root Explorer or FX File Explorer).
- Go to /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db or (for Wi-Fi passwords): /data/misc/wifi/WifiConfigStore.xml
- Open files with a text editor and find lines with password or psk.
Warnings:
- π¨ Unlocking the bootloader resets all data on the phone.
- π‘οΈ Some banking applications (Sberbank Online, Tinkoff) may stop working on phones with root.
- π§ On Xiaomi models with MIUI 14 and later can trigger anti-rollback protection (anti-rollback), which locks the phone when trying to downgrade the firmware version.
π‘
Use root access only as a last resort. Most passwords can be restored through standard methods (MIUI or Google Smart Lock) without risking system stability.
