Why Google’s password on Xiaomi can be hidden
Xiaomi MIUI-based smartphones are heavily integrated with Google services, but sometimes users are faced with a problem: the password from a Gmail or Google Play account suddenly becomes unavailable. This can happen after a reset, system update or prolonged account inactivity. Unlike the iPhone, where data is synchronized through iCloud Keychain, on Android (and Xiaomi in particular), passwords are stored in encrypted form, and their viewing requires special actions.
It’s important to understand that MIUI does not provide direct access to saved passwords for security purposes. However, there are legal ways to restore them, both through Google’s built-in tools and third-party solutions. In this article, we will discuss unique methods for Xiaomi devices, including the Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 and flagship Xiaomi 13/14, taking into account the features of the MIUI 12-14 firmware.
Before you start the instructions, make sure you have access to an email or phone linked to your account. Without this, it will be extremely difficult to restore your password – Google uses two-factor authentication (2FA) as a mandatory security element.
Method 1: Recover passwords through Google’s official service
The most reliable and recommended method is to use Google's recovery tool, which works on all devices, including Xiaomi, and does not require root rights or technical skills.
- Open a browser on your phone (like Google Chrome) and go to accounts.google.com.
- Click Log in and select the option “Forgot your password?”
- Enter the last email or phone you know that is linked to your account.
- Confirm your identity through SMS-code, backup email or answer to a check question (if configured).
- Create a new password and save it in Google’s Password Manager.
⚠️ Note: If two-factor authentication is connected to the account (2FA), You'll need access to Google Authenticator or backup codes, and without them, you can't restore them -- not even Google's support team can help you.
Once you change your password, it automatically syncs to all devices, including your Xiaomi. However, if you used the “Save Passwords in MIUI” feature (available in Settings → Passwords and Security), the old data can remain in the system.
Method 2: View saved passwords in MIUI (without root)
MIUI firmware has a built-in password manager that stores data from apps and websites. If you previously saved a password from Google when you logged in to a browser or apps, it can be extracted:
- Go to Settings → Passwords and Security → Password Manager.
- Sign in with help. PIN-a code, fingerprint or pattern lock (if requested).
- Find an entry in the list called accounts.google.com or Google Play Services.
- Click on the record and select "Show password." The system can request re-authentication.
⚠️ Note: This method only works if the password was saved after the last setting reset. If you were running Wipe Data in Recovery Mode, all local passwords will be deleted.
Check that the “Save Passwords” function is enabled in the settings
Make sure you remember. PIN-device-code
Connect to Wi-Fi to sync your data (if required)
Close all background apps for stable operation of password manager-->
On some Xiaomi models (e.g. Redmi 10 or POCO M4), the menu may be called differently: Settings → Additional → Account Manager. If you don’t find a partition, upgrade to the latest version of MIUI – older versions may not have the feature.
Method 3: Using ADB to extract passwords (for advanced users)
If the standard methods didn’t work, you can try extracting passwords through Android Debug Bridge (ADB). This method requires the enabled mode Debugging by USB It's suitable for users with technical skills. ADB They may disrupt the system!
Instructions:
- Activate Developer Mode on Xiaomi: Go to Settings → About Phone and click on MIUI Version 7 times.
⚠️ Note: This method may not work on Xiaomi with the latest security updates (e.g., the latest security updates, MIUI 14 on Android 13.Google and Xiaomi tightened protection of local data, and access to system files without root rights is limited.
What if the ADB can’t see the device?
Method 4: Recovery through MIUI backup
If you have previously backed up through MIUI Backup, there is a chance to extract the Google password from the archive, a method that is suitable for users who regularly save data to Mi Cloud or locally.
Step-by-step:
- Open the Backup app on your phone.
- Select the latest backup (preferably created before the password is lost).
- Click on Restore and select Settings and Apps or Accounts.
- After recovery, check the password manager (Settings → Passwords and security) – the data should appear.
⚠️ Warning: Restore from backup will overwrite your current settings. If you add new accounts or apps after you create the backup, you’ll have to reconfigure them. Also make sure you have enough space on the device — the process can take up to 10-15 minutes.
💡
Before you restore from a backup, export your important contacts and SMS to a separate file. Use the Contacts app (export in.vcf format) and Messages app (save in.xml).
Method 5: Alternative solutions (if nothing worked)
If all of the above methods have not worked, consider the following options:
- 📱 Use of another device: Try to recover a password from a PC or tablet where you previously logged in to that Google account. Sometimes browsers (like Chrome) save a session even after a reboot.
- 🔑 Standby codes 2FA: If you have two-factor authentication enabled, check the backup codes (they could have been printed or saved when you set up). 2FA). They allow you to log in without an account. SMS.
- 📧 Google Support: Fill out the form on the Google Account Support page, provide as much information as possible: date of account creation, last used devices, tied email/telephone.
- 🔧 Phone reset (extreme): If accessing a Google account is critical (for example, to unlock after a reset), perform Hard Reset via Recovery Mode!
⚠️ Warning: Avoid using third-party software to “hack” Google passwords. Most of these utilities are fraudulent and may contain malware. Xiaomi and Google do not officially support such methods, and their use may lead to account blocking.
Comparison of methods: which way to choose?
To make the choice easier, we have compiled a table with the pros and cons of each method:
| Method | Difficulty | Conditions required | Risks. | Efficiency |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Recovery through Google | ⭐ (simple) | Access to email/phone | No. | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
| MIUI password manager | ⭐⭐ | The password was saved earlier. | No. | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
| ADB (for Advanced) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Debugging by USB, PC | Possible system failures | ⭐⭐ |
| Backup copy of MIUI | ⭐⭐⭐ | Availability of backup | Loss of current data | ⭐⭐⭐ |
| Appeal of support | ⭐⭐ | Confirmation of identity | Long wait. | ⭐⭐ |
For most Xiaomi users, the best solution is a combination of the first and second methods. If you are not sure of your technical skills, avoid methods with ADB or resetting settings - they can lead to data loss.
💡
If you use Xiaomi at work or store important information in your Google account, set up backup recovery options in advance: add a second email, print 2FA backup codes, and enable password synchronization in MIUI.
