Forgot the password from the Xiaomi app or just want to remove the extra protection? MIUI has several ways to disable the blocking of applications, from standard settings to workarounds for forgotten codes. But it is important to understand that the manufacturer deliberately complicates this process to protect user data from unauthorized access.
In this article, we will discuss all the current methods for modern firmware versions (including MIUI 14 and MIUI 15), and also tell you what to do if the standard settings do not work. We will separately focus on the nuances for different models - from budget Redmi to flagship Xiaomi 14 and Black Shark gaming. All instructions are tested on current devices and do not require root rights.
Why Xiaomi is blocking password disabling on apps
The application protection system in MIUI is built on Mi Account and local encryption mechanisms, and the manufacturer deliberately limits the ability to disable passwords for three key reasons:
- ๐ Data theft protection: Even if the phone falls into the wrong hands, an attacker will not be able to access banking applications or correspondence without additional authentication.
- ๐ฑ Sync with Mi Cloud: Application passwords can be reserved in the cloud and restored when you change your device (if you have the option to Sync settings enabled).
- ๐ก๏ธ Compliance with security standards: Xiaomi certifies its devices to international standards (e.g. Google Mobile Services) that require multi-layered protection.
In practice, this means that you can't simply remove your password through Settings โ Applications. The system will require either a current password or a confirmation through Mi Account. Except for devices with an unlocked bootloader, but this is a topic for a separate article.
Method 1: Standard shutdown via MIUI settings
If you remember the password from the application or Mi Account, use the official method:
- Open Settings โ Applications โ Blocking applications.
- Enter the current password (or confirm with a fingerprint if configured).
- Click on the icon. ๐ (Control) in upper right corner.
- Uncheck the boxes from the applications for which you want to remove the lock, or click Disable the application completely.
On some models (e.g. POCO F5 or Redmi K60), the path may be slightly different: Settings โ Privacy โ Application lock.
Charge your phone at least 30%
Connect to a stable Wi-Fi
Make sure you remember the password from your Mi Account.
Disable VPN (can block sync)
-->
โ ๏ธ Note: If applications continue to request passwords after disabling the lock, restart the device. 10% of the time, the changes are only applied after the reboot.
Method 2: Reset the lock via Mi Account (if you forgot the password)
Forgot the lock password, but the Mi Account is active?
- Go to Settings โ Xiaomi Account and make sure you are logged in.
- Open Block Apps and click Forgot Your Password.
- Choose a Recovery Method: ๐ง Email (the code will come to the mail associated with the account). ๐ Po Po Po SMS (If the account is linked to a phone number).
Enter the resulting code and set a new password (or disable the lock completely).
If the device is not connected to the Internet, the method will not work โ Xiaomi requires online confirmation to reset the password, in which case you will have to use alternative methods (see the next section).
| Method of recovery | Internet is required | Implementation time | It's working at MIUI 14/15. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email. | Yes. | 1-5 minutes | Yes. |
| SMS. | Yes. | 1-2 minutes | Yes. |
| Through the backup PIN | No. | Instantly. | Only if the PIN is set up in advance |
| Reset via Fastboot | No. | 10-15 minutes. | Yeah, but it deletes all the data. |
Method 3: Password-free bypass (for advanced users)
If standard methods do not work, you can try to bypass the lock through the recovery mode or ADB. These methods do not require root rights, but require a computer and USB-cable.
Details on ADB-method
Alternatively, reset the settings for applications only (without data loss):
- Turn off the phone.
- Press the Power button + Volume up to enter the Fastboot.
- Connect to your PC and execute the command: fastboot erase locksettings
- Reset the device.

On Redmi and POCO with MIUI 14, sometimes it helps to temporarily shut down Mi Cloud Sync before resetting your password. To do this, go to Settings โ Xiaomi Account โ Mi Cloud โ Sync and disable the Security Settings option.
What to do if nothing helps
If all of these methods fail, radical measures remain:
- Reset to factory settings (deletes all data!): ๐ Through Settings: Settings โ The phone. โ Resetting settings. ๐ ๏ธ Through Recovery: Wipe Data โ Factory Reset.
Contacting the service center
Xiaomi
Fastboot flashing through Fastboot
Mi Flash Tool
Before resetting, try to save the data:
- ๐ Create a backup through Settings โ Additionally. โ Backup.
- โ๏ธ Enable sync with Mi Cloud (unless it is blocked).
- ๐พ Use it. ADB backup to save application data (command: adb backup) -apk -all -f backup.ab).
๐ก
Factory reset is the last option. On 90% of Xiaomi devices, this will unlock all passwords, but it will also delete photos, contacts and messages if they are not synced to the cloud.
