Where saved passwords on Xiaomi Redmi 9 are stored: all ways to extract

Forgot your password from a social network, email or website, but remember that you entered it on Xiaomi Redmi 9? Don’t rush to reset your account – the smartphone saves most passwords automatically. In this article, we will analyze all the official ways to extract them: from the built-in password manager MIUI to hidden features of Google Smart Lock.

Importantly, the methods work without root rights or third-party applications, but some of the data can be encrypted, and we will also explain how to export passwords for backup and why some services (such as banking applications) do not store credentials.

If you’ve used Redmi 9 to log in to multiple devices through Mi Account, some of the passwords may be stored in the Xiaomi cloud.

1. MIUI password system manager

MIUI has a built-in tool to manage saved passwords, but it's hidden in the back of the settings to find it:

1. Open the Settings. → Passwords and security.
2. Select a Password Manager (may be called Account Information depending on the version of MIUI).
3. Log in with a PIN, fingerprint or pattern lock.

Passwords from:

• 🌐 Wi-Fi networks (including hidden ones) SSID)
• 📱 Applications (e.g. Facebook, VK)
• 🔑 Sites if you used the Mi Browser browser

If there is no password manager, upgrade MIUI to version 12.5+ or check the firmware region (for Global ROM, the function is available by default).

⚠️ Note: Passwords from banking applications (SberBank Online, Tinkoff) are not displayed here - they are protected by separate encryption and are not synchronized with the Internet. MIUI.

2. Passwords in Google Smart Lock

If you add a Google account to Redmi 9, some of the passwords are stored in Google Smart Lock, a cloud storage that syncs between devices.

1. Go to passwords.google.com from your phone or PC.
2. Sign in with the same Google account as Redmi 9.
3. In the list, find the desired site or application.

Google Smart Lock does not show passwords from Wi-Fi and local applications (such as Mi Home or Xiaomi Cloud) – for these, use the MIUI system manager.

3.Extracting passwords from Mi Browser

Mi Browser is the standard browser on Xiaomi Redmi 9, which by default saves logins and passwords.

1. Open Mi Browser.
2. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner → Settings → Passwords.
3. Enter the PIN or graphical key of the phone.

4 Wi-Fi Passwords: How to Watch and Share

Passwords from the Wi-Fi networks that Redmi 9 connected to are stored in system settings to extract them:

1. Go to Settings. → Wi-Fi.
2. Click on the name of the saved network → Share.
3. Confirm the unlock by PIN or fingerprint.
4. The password will be displayed under QR-code.

⚠️ Attention: MIUI 13+ The share function can be hidden if the network is added through WPS Or Mi Share:

1. Install a file manager with root access (such as Solid Explorer).
2. Go to /data/misc/wifi/WifiConfigStore.xml.
3. Find the <string name="ConfigKey"></string> string - next to the password in encrypted form.

5.Mi Cloud Cloud Storage

If Redmi 9 is enabled to sync with Mi Cloud, some passwords (from apps, Wi-Fi and Mi Account) are duplicated in the cloud to get them:

1. Go to i.mi.com from your PC or phone.
2. Sign in under the same account as on your smartphone.
3. Select the Devices section → [your Redmi 9] → Backup copies.
4. Download the latest backup (.mbk file).
5. Unlock it with Mi PC Suite or 7-Zip.

6 Third-party applications: when to use them

If system methods do not help, you can use third-party password managers, but with reservations:

• 🔓 KeePassDX or Bitwarden – import passwords from Google Smart Lock and Mi Browser (required export to the Internet) CSV).
• 🛠️ WiFi Password Viewer – shows Wi-Fi passwords without root (does not work on all firmware) MIUI).
• 🚫 Avoid apps like Password Fox or Show Password, which require root and may contain malicious code.

Third-party password managers are convenient for centralized storage, but cannot retrieve data protected at the MIUI level (for example, passwords from Mi Home or Xiaomi Pay).

7.What to do if passwords are not saved

If none of the methods worked, the following reasons are possible:

• 🔄 Reset: After hard reset, all local passwords are deleted. check Mi Cloud or Google Smart Lock - cloud data may have been saved.
• 🔒 Disabled synchronization: Go to Settings → Accounts. → Google → Sync your account and turn on passwords.
• 📵 Application blocks saving: Some services (such as WhatsApp or Telegram) prohibit passwords from being stored at the level of the user. API.
