Did you leave the cafe, drive home, and the Xiaomi smartphone fell through the ground? Or did the Mi BandSuddenly smartwatch disappear after training? The situation is familiar to many β according to statistics, one in three users at least once lost the gadget. Fortunately, the Xiaomi ecosystem offers several tools for finding devices, and the standard Android and iOS features complement them, POCO or Mi, even if it is off or without SIM-map.
It's important to act fast: the sooner you start searching, the better the chances of getting your gadget back. The first watch is critical β attackers often try to reset the device to factory settings to get around locking. We've collected not only standard methods like Find My Device, but also little-known pieces like searching through Mi Cloud or tracking the latest activity in Google Maps. And if the phone is stolen, we'll tell you how to lock it remotely and save data.
Spoiler: Even if your device is not connected to the Internet or is with a dead battery, the chances of finding it remain.
1. Search through Mi Account (official method from Xiaomi)
The most reliable method is to use the built-in Find Device feature in the Xiaomi ecosystem, which works for all of the brandβs smartphones (including POCO and Black Shark), as well as for some smart devices, such as the Mi Band or Mi Smart Clock, the main condition: the gadget must be tied to your Mi Account and have access to the Internet.
To check the link, go to account.xiaomi.com and log in. In the Devices section, you will see all the gadgets associated with your account. If the lost phone is not there, it is not tied (or tied to another account).
- π± For smartphones: Go to Settings β Mi Account β Find the device (some models may have different paths) and turn on the option if it's disabled.
- β For smartwatches/bracelets: Use the Mi Fitness or Zepp Life app β thereβs a last-location search feature.
- π If your device is stolen: Lock it right away through Mi Cloud so the attacker canβt reset the settings.
To find the phone through Mi Account:
- Go to i.mi.com and log in.
- Select the lost device from the list.
- The map will show its last known location (accuracy depends on the GPS enabled).
- Press Playback to make the phone ring at full volume (even in silent mode).
- If the gadget is stolen, select Lock the device and set a password.
β οΈ Attention: If an attacker turns off the phone or drops it to factory settings, it will be impossible to track the device through Mi Account!
2.Google Find My Device is a universal way for Android
If your Xiaomi is running Android (which is 99% of the brandβs devices), you can use Google Find My Device, which works independently of the Mi Account and can show location even if Xiaomiβs Find Device feature is disabled.
- πΉ Google Play Services enabled (set by default).
- πΉ Active Internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile network).
- πΉ Geolocation enabled (not necessary, but increases accuracy).
- πΉ Google account is linked (the same as the phone).
Search instructions:
- Go to Find My Device and log in with the same account as you do on your phone.
- At the top of the screen, select the lost device (if there are several).
- The map will show its last location with a time stamp.
- Available options: π Play the sound β the phone will ring for 5 minutes (works even in silent mode). π Lock the device β set the password on the lock screen (if it was not). π§Ή Erase data β a complete reset to factory settings (use as a last resort!).
If the phone is off or offline, the service will show its last known location, and as soon as the gadget connects to the network, the coordinates will be updated automatically.

If you lose your phone frequently at home, turn on Smart Lock in your Android settings, which automatically unlocks your device in βsafe placesβ (such as at home or work), but does not turn off the security on the street.
3. Tracking through Google Maps Location History
Few people know, but Google Maps keeps a location history for all devices that enable geolocation and account sync, and it can help if the phone is lost long ago or stolen and other methods don't work, for example, if an attacker turns off the geolocation in the settings but doesn't turn off Google Maps, you can still see where it's going.
How to check the story:
- Open Google Maps Timeline on your computer.
- Choose the date you still had your phone (or when it was stolen).
- Look at the route of the movement β the last point can indicate the location of the gadget.
- π Waiting for network connection: If the phone is just dead, wait for someone to plug it into charging. Wi-Fi/You will receive a notification of its location (if tracking options are enabled).
- π± SIM-Tracking card: Some operators (such as MTS or Beeline) offer a phone search service by number SIM. Check with your operator.
- Contact the police: Write a loss/theft report by specifying the IMEI of the phone (you can find out from the box or check). IMEI can be checked by the database of stolen devices (for example, on the GSMA website).
If your phone had important data (photos, documents, work correspondence) and there is no chance of returning it, use the Google Find My Device Delete feature. This will completely clear the deviceβs memory, but after that it will not be possible to track it.

Even if the phone is locked, attackers can extract SIM-You can use the card to cheat, and you can contact the operator and lock the number!
7.How to prepare for loss in advance?
The best protection is prevention. If you lose things often or fear theft, set your phone up in advance:
- π Turn on the screen lock: PIN-Without it, an attacker will easily reset the phone to factory settings.
- π Activate geolocation: Enable High Accuracy in Location Settings (Settings) β Security and location β Regime).
- βοΈ Sync your data with the cloud: Enable backup in Mi Cloud and Google Drive to avoid losing contacts and photos.
- π± Install third-party trackers: Apps like Cerberus or Prey can track your phone even after resetting (requires root rights).
- π Write it down. IMEI: Save a unique phone ID (printed on the box or can be found by command *#06#).
It is also useful to set up an automatic location submission to a trusted contact, such as Google Maps, which allows you to enable Shared Geodata, and Mi Account, which allows you to add a trusted person to track your phone in an emergency.
