Modern Xiaomi TVs are not just screens for watching programs, but full-fledged multimedia centers with dozens of audio streams, from the sound of TV channels to background music in apps. But what if you are disturbed by the sound of advertising, a secondary audio track in a foreign language or automatically running music in MIUI TV? In this article, we will analyze all possible scenarios for disabling audio programs, from basic to hidden functions of the engineering menu.
Many users have a problem where the sound continues to play even after switching channels or closing applications. For example, on Mi TV 4S or Mi TV Q1 models, the audio stream from the previous source sometimes sticks to the previous one. Others complain about the inability to turn off voice prompts or notification sounds. We tested the solutions on current PatchWall 4.0+ firmware and collected working methods for different situations.
It is important to understand the difference between the types of audio programs:
- ๐บ Main TV channel sound โ broadcasted with video stream;
- ๐ต Secondary audio track (e.g., voiceover translation or description for the visually impaired)
- ๐ฑ App sound (YouTube, Netflix, built-in browser)
- ๐ System sounds โ notifications, menu navigation
- ๐๏ธ Voice Assistant (Google Assistant or XiaoAI)
Each type turns off in its own way, and if you've tried to just press the Mute button on the remote, but the sound still leaks, you're welcome here.
1. Disabling the sound of the current TV channel or application
The most obvious, but not always the most effective way is to use the Mute button on the remote, which can behave differently on Xiaomi models depending on the source of the signal:
๐น For on-air/cable TV:
- Press Mute once, the sound should disappear and the ๐ icon will appear on the screen.
- If the sound returns after switching the channel, press Mute twice at intervals of 1 second - this will activate the "deaf" mode.
- To completely turn off the channel audio stream, go to Settings โ Sound โ Additional โ Turn off the sound for the current source.
โ ๏ธ
Warning: Some firmware, after double-pressing Mute, may have a sound lock for all HDMI- inputs. To get the sound back, you'll need to restart the TV.
๐น For apps (YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video):
- ๐ฌ In the app itself, find the sound button (usually in the lower right corner of the player) and move the slider to the left.
- ๐ฑ If the sound comes from the background (for example, the music continues to play after the application is closed), go to Settings โ Apps โ [Application name] โ Stop.
- ๐ The Mi Box S will help to completely reset the sound settings: Settings โ Device โ Sound โ Reset to factory.
Check if the headphones are connected /Bluetooth-
Make sure the sound is not coming from another HDMI- device.
Update the TV firmware to the latest version
Restart the TV (Power button for 10 seconds)

2. How to remove the secondary audio track (duplicate, voiceover translation)
If the channel or movie automatically turns on the second audio track (for example, voiceover translation instead of the original voiceover), the problem lies in the fact that the voiceover is not the same. The audio stream settings on Xiaomi. TV This is how it works.
๐ Method 1. Through the TV menu:
- During playback, press the Menu button on the remote.
- Select โ Audio track (or Audio track).
- In the list of available paths, select the one you want (usually Stereo or Original).
- If you have the option Dubb or Overview โ turn it off.
๐ Method 2 For digital TV (DVB-T2/C/S2):
- ๐ก Go to Settings โ Channels โ Digital TV settings โ Audio.
- ๐ Find the audio track priority setting and set the main one.
- ๐ If you don't have an option, try rescanning channels with the tick off.
๐ Method 3. For HDMI- devices (configures, game consoles):
The soundtrack can be imposed by an external device, to fix this:
- Turn it off. HDMI-cable.
- On an external device (such as NVIDIA Shield or PlayStation) select PCM instead of Bitstream in the audio settings.
- Connect the cable back and check the sound.
Why can't you switch the audio track?
3. Disable system sounds and notifications
Xiaomi PatchWall TVs are using audible notifications, from channel switching signals to voice prompts, to remove them:
๐ Step 1. Turn off navigation sounds:
- Go to Settings โ System โ Sound and vibration.
- Find the System Sounds section and move the slider to the off position.
- Disable the keys sound and voice prompts separately.
๐ Step 2. Remove notification sounds:
- ๐ข Go to Settings โ Notifications โ Notification sounds.
- ๐ Select No Sound or Quiet Mode.
- ๐ To completely disable notifications, activate Do Not Disturb in the same menu.
๐ Step 3: Reset the sound settings (if the sounds come back):
Sometimes, after a firmware update, the system sounds are automatically turned on.
- Open Settings โ About TV โ Reset settings.
- Select Reset sound parameters (not a full reset!).
- Confirm the action and wait for the reboot.
๐ก
If the system's sound is turned off, check if the remote is not responding to the press, and if the visually impaired mode is activated in the special features settings, it can block some functions.
4. Sound problems on Mi Box and Android TV- consoles
The Mi Box S and other Android TV- devices Xiaomi have separate audio settings that may conflict with the settings of the TV. If the sound is coming from the wrong place, try this:
๐ฆ Problem 1: The sound comes from the console, not the TV channel.
- ๐ Turn off the HDMI- cable from the Mi Box and see if there's still sound. If so, there's a problem with the TV.
- ๐ฑ On the console, go to Settings โ Sound โ Output format and select Auto (recommended).
- ๐ Reboot the console through Settings โ The device โ Reboot.
๐ฆ Problem 2: The app plays sound in the background
Some applications (such as Kodi or VLC) can continue to play back sound even after curtailment.
- Open Settings โ Applications โ [Application name] โ Stop.
- If the option is not available, go to Settings โ Device โ Memory โ Applications and force the process to stop.
- For a radical solution, disable the auto-run of the application in Settings โ Applications โ Special Access โ Auto-Run.
๐ฆ Problem 3: Sound disappears after Bluetooth headphones are connected
If you were connecting Bluetooth devices, the TV or console could stick to them like a primary audio output, to reset the settings:
- Go to Settings โ Devices โ Bluetooth.
- Remove all paired devices.
- Reboot the console and check the sound through HDMI.
๐ก
On the Mi Box S, the sound may be lost due to a conflict of the HDMI- protocols. Try setting the console to turn on the HDMI Passthrough mode and select the PCM format instead of Dolby Digital.
5. Hidden sound settings in the engineering menu
If standard methods don't work, you can try to disable the audio program through the service menu, which is only suitable for experienced users - the wrong actions can lead to a reset of the TV!
๐ง How to enter the engineering menu:
- On the Xiaomi remote, click sequentially: Menu โ Up. โ Up. โ Down. โ Down. โ Left. โ Right. โ Left. โ Right (some models have a Menu combination) โ 1147).
- In the menu that opens, select Audio or Sound.
๐ง What parameters can be changed:
| Parameter | Default value | Recommended value | The effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mute HDMI In | Off | On | Disables audio from all HDMI- ports |
| SPDIF Output | Auto | PCM | Resolves problems with digital sound |
| Dual Audio | On | Off | Disables the secondary audio track |
| Audio Delay | 0 ms | 20-50 ms | Corrects the delay of sound |
| Reset Audio DSP | โ | Execute | Resets all sound settings |
โ ๏ธ
Warning: Changing the HDMI Audio Format or EDID Mode settings in the engineering menu can cause sound loss at all inputs. Before experimenting, write down the current values or take a photo of the screen.
๐ง How to exit the engineering menu:
Press Menu or Return on the remote. If the TV is frozen, turn it off for 30 seconds.
Hardware methods of turning off sound
If the software doesn't work, you can use physical solutions, which are suitable for cases where the sound is coming from external devices or you need to completely shut down the TV.
๐ Method 1: Turning off the TV speakers
- ๐ On some Xiaomi models (e.g. Mi TV 4X), the speakers can be turned off hardware:
HDMI ARC
Optical
๐ Method 2: Using a HDMI-splitter with an audio extractor
If the sound comes from an external device (console, game console), but you want to turn it off only on the TV:
- ๐ Purchase a HDMI-splitter with Audio Extract function (e.g. OREI HDA-935).
- ๐ Connect the source (e.g., Mi Box) to the splitter and the TV to the splitter's video output.
- ๐ Don't plug the splitter's audio output anywhere - the sound will be "cut off."
