Owners of Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco smartphones often face the unpleasant situation when the wireless headset is connected, the level of playback is critically low, which is especially annoying in noisy places where every decibel counts, the problem can be hidden in both the software limitations of the MIUI or HyperOS shell, and in hardware incompatibility of specific models.
Android has its own media management standards, which manufacturers often modify. In the case of Chinese brand products, sometimes the phone's volume sliders and accessory are desynchronized. Before you bring the device to the service, you should try to solve the issue yourself using proven calibration methods.
Low volume isn't always a marriage. Often it's about absolute level settings or codec features. In this article, we'll look at the root causes of quiet sound and provide step-by-step instructions for how to fix them, learn how to adjust the equalizer properly and use the hidden functions of the engineering menu.
Checking basic settings and pairing
First, you need to eliminate the basic errors. Make sure that the headset does not have physical limiters or regulators that could accidentally shift. On the smartphone screen, also check whether the media slider is twisted to maximum, as sometimes the system volume of the call and the media are adjusted separately.
You should pay attention to the distance between the devices. If you've moved too far or there are obstacles between the phone and the headphones, the Bluetooth signal weakens, which directly affects the quality and sound level. Try reconnecting the device by removing it from the saved list.
⚠️ Note: If after reconnecting the sound remained quiet in only one headphone, it may be a problem in the contamination of the speaker grid or the discharge of one of the modules.
In some cases, it helps to completely reset the headphones to the factory. This usually requires you to pinch the touch panels or physical buttons for 10-15 seconds before changing the color of the indicator. After reset, re-arrange the pairing through the Settings → Bluetooth menu.

The effect of switching this setting can be different: on some models Xiaomi helps to turn on the function, on others – to turn it off. Experiment, because this software interaction depends on the firmware version and the model of the Bluetooth chip.
Use of Engineering Menu and Equalizer
MIUI and HyperOS have built-in tools to fine-tune audio. Go to Settings → Sound and Vibration → Sound Effects. This is where the graphical equalizer is located. Make sure it's not in Normal mode with sliders down. You'd better choose preset Bright or manually raise all frequencies up.
You can use the engineering menu to get a deeper setup. Type in the phone book the code ##6484## (or #4636## for some versions). In the CIT menu that opens, find the section related to audio testing (usually "Speaker" or "Headset").

The Impact of Third-Party Applications and Codecs

Spotify, YouTube Music or Apple Music settings have their own equalizers and volume normalization settings, and make sure that it doesn't activate the "Normalization" or "Loudness Alignment" feature, which can artificially lower the level of the track.
Codecs play a major role in data transmission. High-quality codecs like LDAC transmit more data, but may be less stable at a distance. If you're in a place with a lot of radio interference, the phone can automatically switch to low bitrate, which is subjectively perceived as a loss of volume.
Reset network settings and Bluetooth
If the software manipulations didn't work, there may be some bugs in the communication modules, and resetting the network settings will bring Wi-Fi, mobile Internet, and Bluetooth back to factory values, and it won't delete your personal files or contacts, but you'll have to re-enter passwords from Wi-Fi networks.
To perform the reset, go to Settings → Connection and Sharing → Reset Wi-Fi, mobile networks and Bluetooth. Click Reset button at the bottom of the screen. After the reboot, the phone will search for devices again, which often solves problems with the incorrect handshake protocol.
