Owners of Xiaomi smartphones and smart devices often face situations where system tunes, notification sounds or background music in apps become annoying, especially at night when an unexpected beep can wake up, or in public places where loud melody is awkward. Fortunately, MIUI 14/15 firmware and the new HyperOS have several ways to turn off music — from full silent mode to selectively turning off individual sounds.
In this article, we will analyze all possible scenarios: how to remove the alarm clock music, turn off system sounds (calls, notifications, keyboard), stop playing in applications such as Mi Music or YouTube Music, and also consider hidden settings for devices with HyperOS. Particular attention will be paid to problems when music continues to play even after an obvious disconnect – this is a frequent complaint of users after updates.
If you need to silence the sound immediately, go to the section “Emergency Shutdown of All Sounds”. For fine-tuning, read the article in full: there are solutions even for non-obvious cases, such as background music in Mi Home or charging sounds.
1. disable system sounds in the MIUI/HyperOS settings
The most obvious way is to turn off sounds through the standard settings menu, which works on all Xiaomi devices, including smartphones (Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Xiaomi 13), tablets (Pad 6), and even smartwatches (Mi Band 8 or Watch 2 Pro).
Instructions for MIUI 14/15:
- Open the Settings. → Sound and vibration.
- Scroll down to the System Sounds block.
- Turn off the sliders: 🔔 Pressing sounds (keyboard, screen locking) 📳 Notifications (including Miui System) 🔋 Charging sound (on by default)
Media volume
In HyperOS (starting with version 1.0.20+), the audio menu has moved: Settings → Connections and Sharing → Sound. Here is a new item called “Adaptive Sounds” – it should also be turned off if the music is turned on automatically when you connect the headphones.
💡
On some models (Redmi K60, Xiaomi 13 Ultra), the "Sensor Sound" item is hidden in the sound settings - it is responsible for clicks when scrolling the screen. Turn it off if you are annoyed by unnecessary sounds when swiping.
2.How to turn off alarm clock music (including repetitive tunes)
The alarm clock on Xiaomi can play music even in silent mode, a feature of the standard Watch app. If you want to completely remove the sound or replace it with vibration, do the following:
- Open the Watch app → Alarm clock.
- Click on the alarm clock (or create a new one).
- In the "Sound" section, select: 🔕 No sound (complete shutdown) 📳 Vibration only (if you need a quiet alert) 🎵 Another tune (you can select a quiet signal from the list)
Ready.
⚠️ Note: If the alarm is triggered via Google Clock (set by default on some models), the sound is turned off in the settings of this app. → Settings → The sound of the alarm clock → No sound.
On the Mi Band or Xiaomi Watch smartwatch, the alarm clock music is turned off via the Mi Fitness app: Device Profile → Alarms → Select an alarm clock → Sound → Turn off.
Why does the alarm clock play music even in silent mode?
3. Emergency shutdown of all sounds on Xiaomi
If the music or sounds are not appropriate, and there is no time to dig into the settings - use quick ways:
- 🔇 Hardware button: Press the volume reduction key before the icon appears «🔔 with crossed-out speaker" (silent mode (POCO F5, Redmi Note 12 Pro+) You need to press the combination Volume down + Nutrition.
- 📱 Notification Panel: Swipe down from the top edge of the screen and click on the Sound icon (or Vibration) to switch to silent mode.
- 🎧 Connect the headphones: If the music is playing through the speakers, connecting wired or Bluetooth headphones will automatically redirect the sound there (then you can turn off the headphones).
For HyperOS devices, a new gesture has been added: double tap the top of the screen (configured in Settings → Special Features → Gestures) and can quickly turn on/off the sound.
4. Disable music in apps (Mi Music, YouTube, Spotify)
If the background music is playing from a third-party application (such as Mi Music, YouTube Music or Spotify), a standard switching off of the sound in the settings will not help.
| Annex | How to turn off music | Additional settings |

⚠️ Note: If the music continues to play after the app is closed, check autorun and permissions: Settings → Annexes → [Title of the annex] → Permits → Disable "Autostart" and "Background operation".
On HyperOS devices, you’ve added Background Limitation: Settings → Applications → Application Management → [Select App] → Limit background activity. This will force you to stop music playback after you fold the app.
5. Hidden settings: disable music in Mi Home, charging and other services

- 🏠 Mu Home (Smart Home): Open Mi Home → Profile → Settings → Alerts and sounds. Turn off "Notification Sounds" and "Voice Alerts».
