Xiaomi TVs are some of the most popular smart TVs on the market due to their combination of price, quality and functionality. But even with such a technique, there are sometimes simple but annoying problems, such as the sudden disappearance of sound. The reasons can be different from accidentally pressing a button on the remote control to a malfunction in the firmware. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to turn on the sound on Xiaomi Mi TVs, Redmi Smart TVs and other models, and also explain how to diagnose and fix typical problems.
It's important to understand that the algorithm of actions depends on the situation: the sound can be turned off software (through settings or remote control), hardware (problems with speakers or cables), or external devices (confixes, soundbars). We structured the instructions from the simplest solutions to the more complex ones so that you can quickly find the right option. If after checking all the points the problem remains, at the end of the article there is a checklist for diagnosing serious malfunctions.
1. Check basic settings: remote and buttons on the body
Start with the obvious: it may have been accidentally turned off. Xiaomi remotes have a separate volume button (usually marked by the wave speaker icon), but sometimes users confuse it with the Mute button, which turns off the sound completely.
- π Press the Mute button on the remote once, and if the TV light flashes or if you see an icon of a crossed-out speaker, that's how the sound was turned off.
- πΊ If the remote is not working, check the buttons on the TV body (usually located on the side or bottom). + 3-5 seconds.
- π Make sure that the remote has working batteries inserted. Try replacing them or using a second remote (if you have one).
On some models (such as the Mi TV 4S or Redmi Smart TV X), the Mute button can be paired with the on button, in which case hold it for 2-3 seconds until the volume menu appears.
β οΈ Attention: If after pressing Mute, the sound does not appear, but the volume scale is displayed on the screen - the problem may be in the speakers or audio outputs.
2. Sound settings in the MIUI TV menu
If the basic manipulations didnβt work, check the sound settings in the system menu. MIUI TV interface may vary slightly depending on the model and firmware version, but the general algorithm is as follows:
- Press the Settings button on the remote.
- Go to the Sound section.
- Make sure the volume slider isn't at zero. Try moving it to the right.
- Check the Sound Output option β the TV Speakers option should be selected.
On Android TV models (such as Mi TV Q1 or Mi TV P1), the path may look like this: Settings β Device β Sound and vibration β Volume. Also note the audio settings:
- π΅ Standard β Balance between voices and basses.
- π¬ Movies β amplified low frequencies (the sound may seem quieter).
- π£οΈ News β Focus on voices (recommended for conversational broadcasts).
Make sure the volume isn't at zero.|Select the output of the sound "Dynamics TV"|Check the sound mode (not "Night")|Deactivate the function "Automatic volume control"-->
If you have HDMI ARC, Optical or Bluetooth on the Output menu, but the external devices are not connected, the audio from the TV speakers will not work.
3. Problems with external devices (configures, soundbars, headphones)
Often, the sound is lost not because of the TV itself, but because of the connected gadgets. For example, if you used Bluetooth headphones or soundbars before and then turned them off, the TV could save the setting for the output of the sound to the external device.
| The device | Problem. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth headphones/column | The sound goes to the device that's disconnected. | Go to Settings β Bluetooth and remove the pairing. Reboot the TV. |
| Soundbar (HDMI ARC) | No sound on TV or soundbar. | Check the HDMI cable (must support ARC). Turn on HDMI-CEC in your TV settings. |
| The console (Apple TV, Xbox) | The sound only comes through the console. | In the set-top box settings, select the output of sound to HDMI, not Optical. |
If you connect the TV to AV-receiver or sound panel via optical cable, make sure that:
- π The cable is tightly inserted into the Optical Out connector on TV.
- π The audio settings are optical or S/PDIF.
- π The external device has the correct input enabled (e.g, OPT1 or TV).
π‘
If the Bluetooth device is not sounded back after you turn off, try resetting the network settings: Settings β Network β Network Reset. This will delete all saved connections, including audio devices.
Hardware malfunctions: speakers, cables, ports
If the software methods didn't work, the problem could be the physical components.
- π Check the power: Make sure the TV is plugged in and the power indicator is on. TV 4A) In unstable food, the sound may be turned off.
- π Speaker test: Go to Settings β Sound. β Speaker test. If there's no sound, there's a possibility of a malfunction in the audio module.
- π οΈ External inspection: See if the speakers (for example, after a TV crash) or the connectors on the back are damaged.
On Xiaomi models with a separate audio chip (for example, the Mi TV Q2), when overheating, the protection that turns off the sound can be triggered. If the TV has been running at high volume for a long time, let it cool for 15-20 minutes.
If you connect your TV via HDMI to a console or PC, try:
- Disconnect and reconnect the cable.
- Use the other HDMI-port on TV (for example, instead of HDMI 1 try. HDMI 2 ARC).
- Check the cable on another device (e.g., connect to a monitor).
β οΈ Note: On Xiaomi TVs with Dolby Atmos (e.g. Mi) TV Q1E) The sound may disappear when connected to outdated HDMI-devices that do not support eARC. In this case, disable Dolby in the audio settings.
5. Resetting settings and firmware update
If the sound is gone after updating the firmware or changing the settings, resetting to factory settings will help.
How to reset your settings:
- Open Settings β Device β Reset and Recovery.
- Select Factory Data Reset (Factory Data Reset).
- Confirm the action by entering PIN-code (default 0000 or 1234).
After the reset, the TV will restart. If it sounds, it's the software problem. If it doesn't, check the firmware.
- π₯ Go to Settings. β On TV. β Updating the system.
- π Click Check Updates. If a new version is available, install it.
- πΎ If the update via the Internet does not work, download the firmware from the official Xiaomi website and install it through the USB.
How to update the firmware via USB
On some models (Mi TV 5 Pro) after the update, the audio profile may be reset. Go to Settings β Sound β Additional and select Reset audio settings.
Diagnostics of serious malfunctions
If none of these things worked, there may be a hardware problem, and here are some signs of serious malfunction.
- π No sound through speakers or external devices (HDMI, optical, Bluetooth).
- π There is no sound in the speaker test menu, but the indicator on the remote works.
- π₯ The TV makes extraneous sounds (creaming, squeaking) or overheats.
In such cases, we recommend:
- If the TV is guaranteed, contact the Xiaomi service center.
- If the warranty is over, find a qualified craftsman. Self-repair of the audio module can lead to a breakdown of the motherboard.
- Try connecting an external sound system (soundbar, speakers) via HDMI ARC or 3.5mm jack (if you have a connector).
On Xiaomi Mi TV series 4 and older, the TAS5756 audio amplifier often fails. Its replacement costs 1,500-3,000 rubles (depending on the region).
β οΈ Warning: If you disassemble the TV yourself, remember: the capacitors in the power supply can retain charge even after disconnecting from the mains. This is life-threatening! Use the discharger or wait for full discharge (at least 24 hours).

If the sound is gone after a power surge or thunderstorm, do not turn on the TV again - this may damage other components.
