Xiaomiβs MIUI-based smartphones are known for their rich functionality, but sometimes users are faced with a problem: the phone does not ring when an incoming call is made. The reasons can range from accidentally switched off the sound to firmware failures. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to enable a call to Xiaomi, including hidden settings and hardware checks.
If your Redmi, POCO or Mi stopped notifying you about calls, donβt rush to bring it to the service center. In 90% of cases, the problem can be solved independently in 5-10 minutes. We collected the latest methods for MIUI 14/15 (including global and Chinese versions), and also took into account the features of popular models: Xiaomi 13/14, Redmi Note 12/13, POCO F5/X5.
Before you go into complex manipulations, check the obvious: whether the phone is not worth the "Do Not Disturb" or air mode. These functions are often activated accidentally - for example, when you press a combination of buttons or through the notification bar. Also make sure that the volume of the call is not set to a minimum (more about this in the first section).
If the basic methods didn't work, don't panic. This article provides instructions for advanced users, including resetting audio settings, checking the permissions of the Phone app, and even diagnosing hardware malfunctions. For convenience, we've categorized all of the methods into categories, from simple to complex.
1. Checking basic sound settings
Start with the simplest: make sure the sound of a call is not turned off physically or programmatically. There are several places in Xiaomi where you can accidentally turn off call alerts.
The first thing you need to do is check the volume slider. Press the volume button on the side of the phone. The control panel will appear on the screen.
- π Call β should be at least 30-50% (optimum 70-80% for a loud signal).
- π’ Media β does not affect calls, but make sure that it is not at a minimum.
- π¨ An alarm clock is a separate setting, but sometimes it goes down with others.
If the call slider is gray and not moving, it is a sign of hardware locking (for example, the volume button is stuck) or a failure in the system, in which case, go to the section about resetting the sound settings.
The second is to check the sound profile. MIUI has 3 standard modes:
- Sound β all notifications and calls are working.
- Vibration - the sound is off, just the vibratory response.
- Without sound β complete silence (no calls are heard!).
To change your profile, pull the notification bar down and click on the speaker icon (usually in the upper right corner). If there is No Sound or Vibration, switch to Sound.
2.Tune the melody and volume of the call
If the phone rings but is too quiet or uses an uncomfortable tune, the problem may be individual settings. MIUI has a separate menu for configuring the call sounds.
To change the parameters:
- Open the Settings. β Sound and vibration.
- Select Call (or Phone Sound and Vibration in some versions).
- Set up: π΅ Call melody β choose loud and clear (for example, MIUI Ring or Classic Ring). π Volume β move the slider to the stop (or to a comfortable level). π Vibration when calling - turn on if you want tactile recoil.
Note the Volume Up (or Adaptive Sound in the newer versions) item, if it's on, the phone automatically adjusts the volume to the ambient noise, and turn off this feature if the bell is loud or quiet.
Also check if the check box is in place in front of the Quiet mode during the call (in some firmware) This option lowers the volume of the call if you are already talking on the phone.

3.Do Not Disturb (DND) Check
One of the most common causes of silence is the activated Do Not Disturb (DND) mode, which can be activated automatically on a schedule, geolocation or when connected to certain devices (for example, a smartwatch).
To check and disable DND:
- Open Settings β Notifications and Status bar β Do not disturb.
- Make sure the main switch is off (gray, not blue).
- Check the Automatic Rules tab β there should be no active triggers (e.g. Sleep Mode or Meetings).
- Click Exclusions and make sure there are Calls in the list (otherwise, even in DND mode, calls will be blocked).
How to check the speaker:
- If you have a sound that's very quiet or distorted, the speaker is damaged.
- Turn on music or video β if the sound is normal, the problem is not the dynamics, but the settings of the call.
- Try blowing into the speaker (carefully!) - sometimes the dust blocks the sound.
How to check the headphone jack:
- Connect and turn off the headphones several times, and if the sound of the call is not restored after the switch is turned off, the contacts of the connector are contaminated or damaged.
- Try calling with connected headphones β if the sound is in them, and not in the speaker, the problem is the connection sensor.
- Use a toothpick or compressed air to clean the connector (do not use metal objects!).
Testing the antenna and SIM-map:
- π± Reboot your phone β sometimes it helps to restore communication.
- π Reinstall. SIM-map (take out and paste back in).
- π‘ Check the signal level if it is weak (1β2 Divide, try to switch to 2G/3G in network settings (Settings) β SIM-maps and mobile networks β Preferred type of network).
π‘
If the phone fell into the water or was subjected to a strong vibration, the speaker could move away from the contacts, in which case only disassembling the device in the service center will help.
5. Resetting the sound and network settings
If previous methods didnβt work, try resetting the audio and network settings to factory settings, which will delete all user configurations, but wonβt affect personal data (photos, contacts, etc.).
Resetting of sound settings:
- Open Settings β System and device β Additional β Resetting.
- Select Reset the sound settings (or Reset all settings if the first item is not available).
- Confirm the action and restart the phone.
Resetting network settings:
- Go to Settings. β SIM-maps and mobile networks β Resetting network settings.
- Confirm the reset. This will delete stored Wi-Fi networks, passwords and mobile Internet settings, but can restore calls if the network configuration was problematic.
After resetting, be sure to check:
- π Loudness of the call (it will reset to factory values).
- πΆ Network mode (should stand) 4G/5G, if maintained).
- π Permissions for the "Phone" application (about this in the next section).
π‘
Resetting is a mild option before a phone is completely reset, and it helps in 60% of cases when the problem is caused by a software failure, not a hardware breakdown.
6. Permit verification and software update
Sometimes calls don't work because of a phone app malfunction or a lack of permissions, and it can also be due to outdated firmware.
How to check permissions for the application "Phone":
- Open Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the phone (or calls) in the list and tap it.
- Select Permissions and make sure that it is included: π Microphone for voice communication. π‘ Phone - to access calls. π Notifications β for call alerts. π Location (optional) - for emergency calls.
turn them on
Update to MIUI firmware:
An outdated version of the software may contain bugs that make calls stop working.
- Open Settings β About the phone β System update.
- Click Check for updates.
- If a new version is available, download it and install it.
If the update doesnβt work, try rolling back to the stable version of MIUI (if you have beta) or installing firmware manually via Fastboot or Recovery. Firmware instructions are available on Xiaomiβs official website or forums (e.g. 4PDA).
π‘
Before updating your firmware, back up your data via Settings β Additional β Backup and Reset. This will save you from losing contacts and photos when you crash.
7.Extreme measures: reset to factory settings
If none of these methods worked, the last option is to completely reset the phone to factory settings, which will remove all data from the device, so be sure to back up before you start.
How to reset Xiaomi to factory settings:
If nothing works, the carrier has a problem. Call from another phone to support your mobile provider.
π After updating MIUI The phone's gone?
π§ It goes to the headphones, even if they're not connected?
π How to Remove Quiet Mode for a Specific Contact?
| Problem. | Probable cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The phone doesn't ring, but it vibrates. | Volume at minimum or speaker faulty | Check the volume settings, test the speaker with music |
| Calls don't come at all. | Air mode, problems with SIM or network | Turn off the flight mode, reinstall SIM, check the network |
| The bell goes into the headphones. | Contaminated connector. 3.5 mm/USB-C | Clean the connector or contact the service |
| After the update, the calls disappeared | Failure in firmware or conflict settings | Reset the sound settings or roll back to the old version of MIUI |
| The phone rings, but it's very quiet. | Dust in the dynamics or failure in the settings | Clean the speaker, turn off Adaptive Sound. |
β οΈ Warning: If after all the manipulations the phone still does not ring, do not try to disassemble it yourself (especially if it is on warranty).Incorrect repair can lead to a complete loss of functionality of the microphone or speaker, and also voids the warranty Xiaomi.
β οΈ Note: Some Xiaomi models (e.g. Redmi Note 10 Pro) POCO X3 Pro) there is a bug in which calls do not work after connecting to the Mi Band or other devices Xiaomi Ecosystem, in which case only rebooting the phone or turning off sync with the gadget will help.
