Why Redmi 8 Pro doesn’t flash when you call – and how to fix it

Are you missing important calls because the phone is down screen or in a noisy room? The camera flash on the Xiaomi Redmi 8 Pro can be your savior — bright lights will not miss the incoming call. But many users face the problem: the option is simply not in the standard settings. The fact is that the manufacturer hides this feature depending on the regional firmware or the version of MIUI.

In this article, we’ll look at all the ways you can activate a flash, from official settings to hidden commands for the engineering menu, why it might not work even after you turn it on, and how to get around the limitations of MIUI, and what to do if the flash stops flashing after you upgrade, and how to get it back to work without resetting it.

Important: the manual is suitable for Redmi 8 Pro based on MIUI 12, 13 and 14. If you have custom firmware (for example, LineageOS or Pixel Experience), the algorithm may differ, as we will also discuss at the end of the article.

Method 1: Standard MIUI settings (if the option is visible)

On some firmware versions, the flash option is available out of the box when calling.

1. Open the Settings app (the gear icon on the desktop).
2. Go to the section Sound and vibration.
3. Scroll down to the Incoming Calls block and melt Flash when calling.
4. Activate the switch, it's done!

If you don't have a flash when you call, don't despair. It means your version of MIUI is hiding it. Go to the following ways.

Regional restrictions: on firmware in Europe and Russia, the feature is often disabled by default, and it can also be removed after major MIUI updates (for example, when you switch from version 12 to version 13), in which case either a hidden engineering menu or third-party apps will help.

Method 2: Engineering menu (hidden setting)

If there is no standard switch, try activating the flash through the Engineering Menu (CIT) method, which works on 90% of MIUI firmware, but requires caution - do not change other settings so as not to disrupt the phone.

Instructions:

1. Open the Phone app.
2. Enter the combination: ##36446337## (this is the code for entering the CIT).
3. From the menu that opens, select Hardware Testing → Audio → Flashlight.
4. Find the Flash when ringing setting and set the Enabled value.
5. Save the settings and restart the phone.

How to set up (for example, Flash Alerts 2):

1. Download the app from Google Play.
2. Run it and provide all the permissions you have requested (camera, notifications, calls).
3. Turn on the Flash on Call switch.
4. In additional settings, select: 🔄 Repeat flash - frequency of flashing (recommended) 1-2 momentarily). 🎨 Flash color – flash color (white or color if supported). 🔔 Vibration – synchronization with vibration.

⚠️ Note: Some applications may conflict with system notifications MIUI. If after installation the phone started to brake, clear the app cache in Settings → Annexes → Application management → [Title of the annex] → Clear the cache.

Method 4: Configure with ADB (for advanced users)

If you're willing to use the Android debugging bridge (ADB), you can turn on the flash when you call over the command line, which works even on locked firmware, but requires connecting the phone to a PC.

Step-by-step:

1. Turn on Developer Mode on your phone: Go to Settings → About Phone. Tap 7 times on MIUI Version. Go back to the main settings menu and open Additional → For Developers. Activate Debugging on USB.

Connect your phone to your computer through USB-cable.

Open the command prompt (Windows) or terminal (macOS/Linux) in the folder with ADB.

adb devices

The name of your device should appear.

adb shell settings put global flash_notification_enabled 1

Reboot the phone.

Important: After the MIUI update, the ADB settings may reset. Repeat the procedure if the flash stops working.

Why the flash doesn't work even after turning on: 5 reasons and solutions

You've turned on the function, but the flash still doesn't blink? Here are the most common reasons and ways to fix them:

• 🔋 Low battery charge (less than 15%). MIUI Solution: Charge your phone to 20% or higher.
• 📱 Energy saving mode: Super saving or ultra saving modes block the flash. Solution: disable the mode in Settings → Battery and productivity.
