Why Xiaomi doesnโt have a print vibration โ and how to fix it
Have you noticed that the keyboard on your Xiaomi or Redmi stopped vibrating when typing? Or has this feature never worked since you bought? The problem most often lies not in the hardware breakdown, but in the settings of MIUI, Xiaomi's proprietary shell. The fact is that the default tactile return of the keyboard is disabled on most models, including the POCO X5, Redmi Note 12 and even the flagship Xiaomi 13/14.
In this article, we'll look at three official ways to enable vibration -- through keyboard settings, system settings, and even a hidden menu for advanced users -- and also why the feature might disappear after MIUI updates and how to prevent it, and if you use a third-party keyboard (like Gboard or SwiftKey), the instruction will also fit, and we've taken all the nuances into account.
Before you start, check if the vibration is working in principle: try to turn on the vibration mode in the sound settings or run any vibration test (for example, in the Mi Test application). If there is no vibration at all, the problem may be in the hardware (for example, the vibrator motor is damaged after a fall).
Method 1: through settings of the standard MIUI keyboard
This is the fastest method, which works on 90% of devices running MIUI 12-14. Suitable for Xiaomi 11T, Redmi Note 11 Pro, POCO F4 and later.
- Open any application where you can type text (such as Messages or Notes).
- Tap the input field so that the keyboard appears.
- Click on the gear settings (โ๏ธ) in the top row of the keyboard (near the send button).
- Select the MIUI Keyboard Settings (or Language and Input โ MIUI Keyboard if there is no gear).
- Go to the Review section when pressed (or Vibration).
- Activate the Vibration switch when pressed and select intensity (weak, medium, strong options are usually available).
If your MIUI version does not have a Feedback option, then the keyboard is updated to the latest version, where the vibration settings are transferred to the system menu (see Method 2).
Check that the MIUI keyboard is set as the main one (Settings โ Language and input)
Update your keyboard via Google Play (if Gboard is used)
Make sure Do Not Disturb mode is turned off (it can block vibration)
Restart your phone if the vibration doesnโt turn on after the changes-->
Method 2: through system settings of sound and vibration
Starting with MIUI 13, some of the keyboard settings were moved to the general vibration menu, a method that works even on Black Shark and other Xiaomi gaming smartphones.
- Open the Settings. โ Sound and vibration.
- Scroll down to the Vibration block and select Vibration when touched.
- Activate the keyboard vibration slider (if not, see Method 3).
- Adjust the vibration intensity with a runner or select one of the preset profiles (Light, Standard, Enhanced).
Important: on some models (for example, Xiaomi 12 Lite), the keyboard Vibration only appears after the first vibration is turned on through the keyboard settings (Method 1). If the parameter is gray and inactive, go back to the first method and repeat the actions.
| Xiaomi model | The Way to Vibration Settings of the Keyboard | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10/11 | Settings โ Sound โ Vibration when touched โ Vibration of the keyboard | MIUI 12.5 may be called "Tactile recoil" |
| POCO X3/X4 | Settings โ Additional โ Vibration โ Keyboard | Pre-enabled vibration in the Gboard |
| Xiaomi 13/14 | Settings โ Sound and vibration โ Vibration when pressed โ Keyboard | Additionally available vibration frequency setting |
| Black Shark 5 | Settings โ Game settings โ Vibration โ Keyboard | Can conflict with game vibration profiles |

If the vibration is too weak after you turn it on, try to increase its intensity in the Settings menu โ Special features โ Vibration. Here you can adjust the amplitude for all system vibrations, including the keyboard.
Method 3: for advanced - hidden menu of engineering settings
If the first two methods didn't work, it's possible that the keyboard vibration is locked at the system level, in which case the engineering menu (hidden from ordinary users) will help. Attention: the wrong actions here can disrupt the phone, so follow the instructions carefully.
To open the engineering menu:
- Open the Phone app and enter the combination: ##4636##.
- Select Testing (or Testing in English firmware).
- Go to the Vibration section.
- Press the vibration test โ if the motor is working but the keyboard is not vibrating, the problem is in the software.
- Go back to the main menu and select Hardware Testing.
- Find Keyboard Vibration and set the Enabled value.
โ ๏ธ Note: Some firmware (e.g. Global) ROM For Xiaomi 11, the engineering menu can be blocked, in which case, use the alternative code: ##36446337## (opens the menu). CIT, Where to choose the Vibration Test).
If the vibration has not occurred after these manipulations, the cause may be:
- ๐ Conflict with energy saving mode (disable Ultra-economic mode in battery settings).
- ๐ ๏ธ Damage to system files after a failed update (resetting will help).
- ๐ฑ Hardware malfunction of the vibromotor (diagnosis in the service is required).
What to do if the engineering menu is not opened?
Why the vibration of typing disappears after the MIUI update
Many Xiaomi users find that the keyboard vibration suddenly shuts down after updating the firmware, which is because MIUI resets some settings to factory settings when major updates (for example, when switching from MIUI 13 to MIUI 14).
- ๐ Automatically reset personal settings (Xiaomi often โforgetsโ user preferences when updating the system kernel).
- ๐ฆ Battery optimizations (new versions) MIUI more aggressively restrict background processes, including vibration).
- ๐ง Change the menu structure (setting points are moved and old instructions stop working).
- ๐ซ Vibration locking to save energy (relevant for models with a small battery, for example, Xiaomi 12 Lite).
To prevent loss of settings after the update:
- Before the update, make a backup of settings through Settings โ About phone โ Backup.
- After updating manually check all vibration parameters (they can reset).
- Turn off the auto-optimization of the battery for the keyboard: Settings โ Battery โ Battery Optimization โ All applications โ MIUI Keyboard โ No restrictions.
โ ๏ธ Note: If after updating to MIUI 14 The keyboard vibration is delayed, try rolling back to the previous firmware version or wait for the patch. This problem is known for the Redmi Note 12 Pro.+ and POCO F5 โ Xiaomi has already announced a fix in the next update.

After each major MIUI update, check the keyboard vibration settings โ they are reset 60 percent of the time.
Vibration is not stable: how to fix it
Sometimes the vibration of typing comes and goes, and it can be related to:
- ๐ Power saving mode (vibration is turned off when the battery is low).
- ๐ต Conflict with other sound effects (for example, if system key sounds are enabled).
- ๐ค Errors in Google Services (relevant to Gboard).
- ๐ฑ Overheating of the phone (MIUI Automatically shuts down vibration at high temperature).
To fix the problem:
- Open Settings โ Battery โ Modes and turn off Energy Saving or Ultra Mode.
- In the keyboard settings (Gboard or MIUI), turn off the keys sounds โ they can conflict with vibration.
- Clear the keyboard cache: Settings โ Applications โ Application Management โ Keyboard โ Storage โ Clear the cache.
- If you use Gboard, upgrade to the latest version on Google Play and restart it.
- Check the temperature of your phone with the CPU Monitor app โ if itโs above 45ยฐC, let the device cool down.
If the problem persists, try resetting the keyboard settings to factory:
Settings โ System โ Settings Reset โ Reset application settings โ Select โMIUI Keyboardโ or โGboardโVibration on third-party keyboards (Gboard, SwiftKey, etc.)
If you use an alternative keyboard (like Google's Gboard or Microsoft's SwiftKey), the vibration settings may vary. Here's how to turn on tactile recoil for popular keyboards:
For Gboard:
- Open any text box and call Gboard.
- Click on the gear settings (โ๏ธ) keyboard.
- Select Preferences โ Vibration when pressed.
- Set the slider in the position On. and adjust the intensity.
For SwiftKey:
- Launch SwiftKey and tap the tri-point icon (โฎ) top-row.
- Go to Settings. โ Sound and vibration.
- Activate Vibration when you press the keys.
For Samsung Keyboard (if installed on Xiaomi):
- Open Settings โ General Management โ Language and input โ Samsung Keyboard.
- Select Feedback when pressed โ Vibration.
โ ๏ธ Note: Some Xiaomi models (e.g. Redmi) 9A) Third-party keyboards may conflict with system vibration settings. If it doesn't work after you turn on the vibration in Gboard, try temporarily disabling battery optimization for this app.
