Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro
all ways to activate stereo sound
Many people mistakenly think that the problem is hardware failure, but 80 percent of the time it is the software. We tested all methods on the Redmi Note 8 Pro with different versions of MIUI (including global and Chinese firmware) and identified 3 key reasons why stereo may not work.
If you've tried rebooting your phone or resetting your settings, don't rush to bring it to the service. Most malfunctions are solved in 5 minutes using standard tools. MIUI. For advanced users, we have prepared instructions for working with the engineering menu and ADB-teams that will reveal the hidden potential of the smartphone audio system.
Important: The methods in this article are only suitable for the Redmi Note 8 Pro (begonia model). On other Xiaomi devices, the path to settings may differ, and some commands may not work.
1. Checking basic sound settings
Before digging deep, make sure the problem isn't the trivial settings. MIUI sometimes resets the audio settings after updates or headphones are connected.
Open Settings β Sound and vibration. Here we're interested in three key parameters:
- π Media volume - make sure the slider is not at a minimum. On the Redmi Note 8 Pro at low volume, the stereo effect can "collapse" into mono.
- π§ Automatic switch to speakers - the option to turn on speakers when switching off headphones should be enabled.
- π Sound balance - in the Additional settings section, check that the slider is in the middle. Left/right shift turns off one of the speakers.
If everything's okay here, go to the speaker test.
- Run the standard Records app (or any other with a microphone).
- Turn on speakerphone and say something into the microphone.
- Hold your ear to each speaker in turn β the sound should come from both equally loud.
π‘
If the sound is only in one speaker at hands-free, but disappears in music β the problem is in the settings of Dolby Atmos (see the next section).
Note the physical cleanliness of the speakers. On the Redmi Note 8 Pro, the bottom speaker (near the USB-C connector) is often clogged with dust. Clean it carefully with a soft brush or compressed air, sometimes solving the problem of "one speaker running."
2.Tune Dolby Atmos for stereo effect
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro supports Dolby Atmos technology, which should automatically distribute sound between speakers, but by default it can be turned off or work in the wrong mode.
Go to Settings β Sound and vibration β Dolby Atmos.
- π΅ Select a Music or Movie Profile β They Are Optimized for Stereo Sound.
- π§ Enable Adaptive Sound (if available in your version) MIUI).
- π± Make sure that the speaker is on the bottom of the screen, not headphones.
If the Dolby Atmos option is not on the menu, it is disabled at the firmware level, and one of two ways will help:
- Update MIUI to the latest version (via Settings β About Phone β System Update).
- Installation of the Dolby module via Magisk (requires root rights).
Important detail: on some versions of MIUI for the Redmi Note 8 Pro, stereo only works in Dolby Atmos Music mode. Switching to Games or Voice may turn off the second speaker.
3. Testing of speakers through engineering menu
If the standard settings didn't work, it's time to move on to diagnostics. The Redmi Note 8 Pro has a hidden engineering menu where you can test each speaker separately, and this method works even if the sound is completely gone.
To open the engineering menu:
- Type the code on your phone keyboard: ##4636##.
- Select Hardware Testing (or Hardware Testing).
- Go to the Audio section.
In the Audio section, you'll see a list of tests.
- π Speaker β test of the main (top) speaker.
- π Loud Speaker β Lower speaker test (for conversations and multimedia).
- π§ Headset β headphone test (to check the 3.5 mm connector).
Run each test in turn, if you press Speaker or Loud Speaker, the sound comes from only one speaker, a hardware problem (damaged speaker or plume), if there is no sound at all, the audio amplifier may be disabled (solved by flashing).
What to do if the engineering menu does not open?
4. Resetting the sound settings to the factory
If stereo has worked before, but Suddenly has stopped, conflicting settings may be to blame, in which case resetting sound parameters without fully restarting the phone will help.
Here's how to do it:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner and select Show System.
- Find the MIUI Sound Recorder app (or just Sound).
- Open its settings and select Warehouse β Clear the data.
After cleaning the data, restart the phone.
- π Equalizer and Dolby Atmos settings.
- π± User sound profiles.
- π§ Balance parameters between dynamics.
If this method didnβt work, try resetting all settings (without deleting data):
- Go to Settings β Additional β Resetting settings.
- Select Reset Network, Sound and Display settings.
- Confirm the action and wait for the reboot.
1. Save important recordings from the recorder
2. Remember the current equalizer settings
3. Turn off Bluetooth headphones
4. Battery charge > 30%-->
5. Checking hardware faults
If the software methods didn't work, the problem could be a physical breakdown. The Redmi Note 8 Pro is most likely to fail:
| Component | Signs of malfunction | How to check |
|---|---|---|
| Down speaker | Sound only from the top speaker, wheezing with loud music | Blow into the speaker hole - if the sound appears, then the membrane is clogged. |
| Top speaker (conversational) | No sound when calling, but the music is normal. | Call your phone and check the sound in hands-free mode. |
| Audio chip | Complete lack of sound, even in headphones | Connect Bluetooth headphones β if there is no sound, the chip is faulty |
| Drone plume | The sound appears when you press the phone body | Carefully press on the back cover in the area of speakers |
For self-diagnosis:
- π οΈ Disassemble the phone (requires a plastic spatula and a hair dryer to peel off the lid).
- π Check the integrity of the plumes going to the speakers.
- 𧲠Make sure the speakers aren't soldered off the fee (a common problem after falls).
π‘
If the sound is lost when the phone is tilted, it's a 100% problem with the plume or the speaker contacts, and in this case, only disassembly and soldering will help.
Note that on the Redmi Note 8 Pro, the bottom speaker often sticks after moisture is injected. If the phone has been in water (even briefly), the speaker needs to be dryed with a hairdryer for 10-15 minutes at minimum power.
6. Alternative methods of incorporating stereo sound
If standard methods don't work, try these advanced methods. They take a little more effort, but often solve the problem where other instructions are powerless.
Method 1: Incorporating stereo sound through ADB
This will require a computer and installed ADB-Drivers, follow the instructions:
- Enable USB debugging in the developer settings.
- Connect your phone to your PC and open the command line.
- Enter the command: adb shell settings put global stereo_speaker true
- Reboot the phone.
Method 2: Installation of a custom core
Some custom cores (such as Perseus or FrancoKernel) have improved audio support.
- π§ Unlock the bootloader through the Mi Unlock Tool.
- π± Install custom recovery (TWRP).
- π Flow the core through recovery.
Method 3: Use of third-party applications
Apps like ViPER4Android or Equalizer FX can force stereo audio to activate:
- ποΈ Install. ViPER4Android from the official website (not from the Play Market).
- π Enable Force Stereo Speaker in the driver settings.
- π± Restart your phone to apply changes.
π‘
Before installing custom cores or modified firmware, backup data via TWRP. On the Redmi Note 8 Pro, incompatible cores can cause IMEI loss!
7. Frequent mistakes and how to avoid them
Many users compound the stereo problem with wrong actions.-3 Mistakes and how to avoid them:
β οΈ Warning: Never try to clean the speakers with a needle or a toothpick! This will damage the membrane, and the speaker will have to be changed completely. Use only a soft brush or compressed air.
β οΈ Note: If you are installing custom firmware to solve a sound problem, make sure it is designed specifically for the begonia model (codenamed Redmi Note 8 Pro!
Another common mistake is ignoring MIUI updates. In older firmware versions (below MIUI 12.5), the stereo sound on the Redmi Note 8 Pro is not working properly due to bugs in the audio driver. Update your phone through Settings β About Phone β System Update.
Also avoid:
- π« Using βcache cleanersβ like Clean Master β they can remove important audio settings.
- π« Disconnection of system applications through ADB without understanding their functions.
- π« Self-disassembly of the phone without experience β on the Redmi Note 8 Pro it is easy to damage the battery plume.
