Have you ever encountered a situation where even at full volume your Xiaomi sounds too quiet?Maybe you're trying to listen to music on a noisy subway, watch videos outside, or just want to enjoy a powerful sound at a party.Unfortunately, manufacturers often limit the maximum volume of speakers and headphones for safety reasons (and to avoid breaking local noise laws).
But what if you really need to squeeze more out of the device? In this article, we'll look at all the possible ways to increase volume on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones, from simple tweaks to deep system modifications. It's important to understand that some methods can degrade sound quality or even damage speakers with prolonged use. We'll honestly warn about the risks and tell you how to minimize them.
Whether you want to just tweak the sound in the settings or you're ready to dive into the engineering menu, here's a solution for your needs, and if something goes wrong after the experiments, there's a section at the end of this article on how to get back to the factory settings of the sound.
1. Check the basic sound settings
Before you go into deep settings, make sure you don't miss the obvious. Many users don't even realize that MIUI has hidden volume controls that you can activate.
Open Settings β Sound and vibration. Check here:
- π Media volume - the slider should be at its maximum, sometimes it gets knocked down after connecting Bluetooth devices.
- π§ Separate adjustment for headphones - in some firmware there is a separate slider for wired and wireless headphones.
- π« Volume Limit β in some regions (e.g. the EU) the default limit is 85 dB.
If your phone has Mi Sound Enhancer, try turning it on and select Dynamic or Bass+ profiles, which will not increase the physical volume, but will make the sound more saturated, which is subjectively perceived as "louder."
2.Use uniform setting (EQ)
The equalizer does not increase the maximum volume directly, but it allows you to redistribute the frequencies so that the sound seems louder, for example, amplifying the medium and high frequencies creates a "transparency" effect, and basses add volume.
How to set up:
- Open Settings β Sound and vibration β Uniform setting.
- Select Preset User.
- Lift sliders 100 Hz β 500 Hz (bass) and 1 kHz β 5 kHz (medium frequencies) by +3... +5 dB.
- Remove excess low frequencies (60Hz) to avoid wheezing.
For music, the combination works well: +4 dB per 250 Hz (heat), +3 dB per 1 kHz (vocals) and +2 dB per 5 kHz (detailing). For video and podcasts, it is better to amplify 500 Hz - 2 kHz - these are the frequencies of human speech.

If your model doesnβt have a built-in equalizer, install the Wavelet app from Google Play, which supports system sound and works even with YouTube and Spotify.
3. Activate the hidden engineering menu (MTK/Qualcomm)
This is the most efficient way to turn up the volume, but also the riskiest way, and you can manually set the audio amplification options in the engineering menu, which are limited by default by the manufacturer.
Instructions for Qualcomm processors (most flagships Xiaomi):
- Open the Phone app and enter the combination: ##36446337###
- Select Hardware Testing β Audio β LoudSpeaker Mode.
- In the Max Vol section, increase the value of: π Media (music, video) β from 150 to 160-170. π Ring (calls) β from 128 to 140-150. π€ Mic β Donβt touch it, it can ruin the quality of the recording.
Save the settings and restart the phone.
For MediaTek processors (many Redmi and POCO models):
- Enter in the call: ##4636##
- Go to Hardware Testing β Audio β Speaker.
- Increase Max Volume by 10-20% of the current value.
What happens if you go too far?
β οΈ Warning: Changes to the engineering menu are not reset after the firmware update. If there are wheezing after the volume increases, return the values to the standard and check the speakers for damage.
4.Install third-party applications to amplify sound
If you don't want to go through the system settings, you can use specialized applications that work as an intermediary between the player and the speakers, and they amplify the signal programmatically.
| Annex | Pluses | Cons | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Volume Booster | Simple interface, works with any media | Can distort the sound at maximum | Google Play |
| Precise Volume | Fine volume setting (up to 100 steps) | Requires root for full functionality | Google Play |
| Wavelet | Equalizer + amplifier, supports Bluetooth | Difficult for beginners | Google Play |
| ViPER4Android | Professional sound processing, amplifier | Requires root and manual installation of drivers | XDA Developers |
The most balanced version is Wavelet, which not only amplifies the sound, but also corrects the frequency curve, making the sound cleaner.
- Install the app and give all permissions.
- Turn on System Sound in the settings.
- Select Loudness profile and raise Volume slider by +6 dB.
- Activate Adaptive Sound for Automatic Correction.
β οΈ Note: Apps like Volume Booster may conflict with system services MIUI. If after installation the phone started to brake or the sound disappeared, clear the cache of the Settings application. β Annexes β Sound amplifier β Warehouse β Clear the cache.
5 Modification of system files (for advanced)
If you're willing to take risks, you can edit the system files that control volume, which requires an unlocked bootloader and root rights, but it's the most noticeable result.
Instructions:
- Install Root Explorer or FX File Explorer with root access.
- Go to /system/vendor/etc/.
- Find the file. mixer_paths.xml (or mixer_paths_qrd_skuh.xml for some).
- Then, make sure you have a safe place to go.
- Open the file in the text editor and find the lines: <path name="speaker"> <ctl name="RX1 Digital Volume" value="84" /> <ctl name="RX2 Digital Volume" value="84" />
- Increase the value to 90-95 (no more!).
- Save the file, return it back to /system and reboot the phone.
If you want maximum sound without external devices, look for passive resonators, small plastic or wooden boxes that are placed on the phone speaker and amplify the sound by acoustic resonance, and can be made even with improvised means (for example, from a plastic cup).
7. How to return factory sound settings
If you've had a worse sound, a worse wheezing, or a more unstable phone, you've got to reset the settings.
To reset program changes:
- Open Settings β System and device β Resetting settings.
- Select Resetting Sound Settings (if any) or Resetting All Settings.
- Confirm the action. It'll bring all the volume sliders and equalizer back to factory values.
To reverse changes in the engineering menu:
- Enter the engineering menu again (combination # #36446337##).
- Return all Max Vol values to standard (usually 150 for media and 128 for calls).
- Reboot the phone.
If you edited mixer_paths.xml:
- Restore the original file from the backup.
- Or search the phone through the Mi Flash Tool (instructions are available at xiaomiflash.com).
π‘
Before resetting, check if the sound problems are related to physical damage to the speakers. If the wheezing and distortion remain at even the lowest volume, this is a sign of hardware malfunction.
