Method 1: Install ringtones through standard MIUI settings
The most obvious and safe method is to use the built-in tools, which require no additional software and even works on phones with a locked bootloader.
- Open the Settings app (the gear icon on the desktop).
- Go to the section Sound and vibration.
- Slip on the item "Melody of the call" (or "rington" in some localizations).
- At the top of the screen, select the Local tab β all available tunes, including system and user ones, will be displayed here.
- If your file is not listed, click Add Rington (or + icon in the upper right corner).
- Select the desired audio file from the phone memory (supports.mp3,.m4a,.wav,.ogg formats).
β οΈ Attention: MIUI You may not display files that are deep in folders or have non-standard names (such as Cyrillic or special characters). If your tune does not appear in the list, rename it to the Latin alphabet (for example, rename it to the Latin alphabet, my_ringtone.mp3) And put it at the root of the internal memory.
File in MP3/M4A/WAV format
Length not exceeding 30 seconds (recommended)
Bitrate not higher than 320 kbit / s
File name in Latin without spaces
The file is copied to internal memory (not to the SD-map)

If the melody sounds quieter than the system signals after adding, check the volume settings in Sound and Vibration β Volume β Media. Sometimes MIUI resets the sound levels for user files.
Method 2: Manually copy files to system folders
This method is suitable for those who prefer to work with the file system directly, and it is especially useful if you want your tune to appear in the default list (along with standard Xiaomi signals).
- Connect the Redmi Note 7 to your computer USB-cable (in file transfer mode).
- Open the phoneβs internal memory and find the MIUI β media β audio β ringtones folder.
- Copy your audio file into this folder. If there's no ringtones folder, create it manually.
- Reboot the phone (required!), after which the new tune will appear in the list of standard ringtones.
π‘ Useful tip: If you want a tune to appear in the category of alarms or notifications, copy it to the appropriate folders:
- π /MIUI/media/audio/alarms/ β alarm-box
- π© /MIUI/media/audio/notifications/ β notice-in
- π΅ /MIUI/media/audio/ringtones/ β call-in
What if there is no MIUI folder?
β οΈ Note: Not all files are suitable for system folders. MIUI can ignore files with a bitrate above 320 kbit / s or longer than 1 minute β MP3 bitrate 192-256 kbit/s.
Method 3: Using a file manager (without a PC)
You don't want to connect your phone to your computer? You can do without it -- a standard Explorer (or any other file manager, like Solid Explorer or FX File Manager) is enough.
- Download or move your audio file to the phoneβs internal memory (like the Download folder).
- Open Explorer (the folder icon on the desktop).
- Go to the Internal Memory path β MIUI β media β audio β ringtones. If there are no folders, create them (see spoiler above).
- Hold your finger on your audio file, select Copy, then go to the ringtones folder and click Insert.
