Before you go to the instructions, check the version of your shell: go to Settings → About Phone → MIUI version. It depends on which of the methods will work for you.

Method 1: Standard Melody Assignment Through Contact (MIUI 14 and later)

In the latest versions of the shell, the algorithm has become simpler, but the path to settings has become less obvious. Here are the step-by-step instructions for Xiaomi 12/13/14, Redmi Note 11/12 and other models from 2022-2026:

1. Open the Contacts app (a icon with a person’s silhouette).
2. Find the right contact in the list and tap it.
3. In the upper right corner, press three dots (⋮) and select "Edit».
4. Scroll down to the Rington block (may be called the Call Sound).
5. Slip on the current melody - a list of standard signals will open.
6. Choose your favorite option or click Add (+) to download your file.

If the Rington item is not in the contact editor, then your firmware uses the old logic - go to Method 2.

1. Open the Settings. → Sound and vibration.
2. Scroll to the Ringtones block and select the Call Rington.
3. In the upper right corner, press three dots (⋮) and tap "Appoint contacts».
4. From the contact list, select the right person.
5. Assign a melody from the suggested ones or add your own through the + button.

If your MIUI version does not have an “Appoint Contacts” option, try an alternative path:

How to Add Your Music to Xiaomi’s Rington List

The standard list of tunes in Xiaomi is limited to 20-30 options.

1. Place the audio file (.mp3,.m4a or.wav format) in one of the system folders: /storage/emulated/0/Ringtones/ - for ringtones /storage/emulated/0/Notifications/ - for notifications /storage/emulated/0/Alarms/ - for alarm clocks

Reboot your phone (required!).

Open the ringtone settings (in any of the ways above) and your file will appear in the list.

Ringtones, Notifications and Alarms folders should be at the root of internal memory, not at the root of the internal memory. SD-If you don't have folders, you can create them manually through any file manager.

If you’re outfollowing all the instructions but the melody doesn’t set or reset, check out these points:

1. Problems with the storage permit

In MIUI, the Contacts app may not have access to files to fix:

Settings → Applications → Application Management → Contacts → Permissions → Enable “Storage”

2. Contact saved on SIM-map

Individual tunes only work for contacts saved in a Google account or phone memory.

1. Open contact. → «Edit».
