Vibration on Xiaomi: how to reduce, disable or adjust to yourself

Vibration in Xiaomi smartphones is not just tactile feedback, but a whole range of technologies that can both improve the user experience and annoy. Weak “tickles” when typing, loud bangs at notifications or sudden shiver in your pocket for no reason – these are the problems faced by owners of Redmi, POCO and the flagship Mi/Xiaomi series. In this article, we will examine all possible ways to control vibration from basic MIUI settings to hidden engineering menus and hardware features.

It is important to understand that the vibration on Xiaomi depends on three key factors: the software settings of the MIUI, the hardware implementation of the vibrator (linear or rotary) and the firmware version. For example, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ uses the advanced X-axis Linear Motor, which supports up to 200 intensity levels, and in the budget POCO M5 – a classic rotary motor with 3-5 fixed modes. We will consider solutions for all cases, including a unique bug with a “ghost” vibration after upgrading to MIUI 14+ on some models in 2022-2023.

Before you start settings, check if your case is related to a physical malfunction. If the phone vibrates spontaneously (without notifications or touching), this may indicate damage to the vibrator plume or closure of contacts - such problems are solved only in the service center.

1. Basic vibration settings in MIUI

To start with the obvious, standard system settings: MIUI 12-15 has vibration control scattered across multiple sections, often confusing users, and here's the full path to all the key options:

⚠️ Warning: Disabling vibration through Special Features may cause some apps (such as WhatsApp or Telegram) to stop vibrating when notified, even if this option is enabled in their settings. To return functionality, you will have to manually restart these programs.

🔹 For owners. POCO F4/F5 Xiaomi 12T: These models have a hidden option called Adaptive Vibration, which automatically adjusts the intensity to the surrounding noise. To activate it, type the phone code in the app ##4636##, Then go to the equipment testing. → Vibration. → Adaptive Haptic.Beware: Not all test menus are safe for inexperienced users!

3. Vibration setting for individual applications

MIUI allows you to flexibly manage the vibration for each application separately, which is useful if you want Instagram or TikTok not to vibrate when likes, but still save feedback in messengers.

Instructions:

1. Open Settings → Applications → Application Management.
2. Select the app you want (like VK or Twitter).
3. Go to Notifications. → Additionally. → Vibration.
4. Select mode: Default, Short, Long or No Vibration.

🔹 Exception: Some apps (like Google Messages or Slack) ignore system settings and use their own vibration mechanisms, in which case you will have to configure notifications directly in the application itself.

4. Engineering menu and hidden codes for diagnostics

If the vibration is unpredictable (i.e., it is not), the problem may be in the hardware. Use Xiaomi’s engineering menu, which is available through secret codes, to diagnose.

🔹 Basic codes for vibration testing:

• #4636## → Equipment Testing → Vibration (motor performance check)
• ##0673## or #0289## is a vibromotor test (not all models).
• #4634### - Tactile feedback check (for X-axis Motor devices)

In the engineering menu you can:

• 📊 Check the current vibration frequency (must be in the range of 100-250 Hz for linear motors).
• 🔧 Calibrate the engine (Vibrator Calibration option).

⚠️ Warning: Don't change the settings in the engineering menu unless you're sure they're intended! Incorrect settings can result in constant vibration at maximum power (a known bug on the Redmi Note 10 Pro after calibration).If this happens, reset the settings via Fastboot with the command:

fastboot erase vibrator

🔹 For experienced users: If the vibration is too weak POCO X3 Pro or Redmi K40, You can manually increase the amplitude through ADB:

Where 150 is the intensity (range 50–200). Reboot the device after application.

5. Hardware Features: Why Vibration Differs in Different Models

6 Software bugs: how to fix the "ghost" vibration

Many Xiaomi users have a problem when the phone vibrates for no reason — without notifications, calls or touches. This is due to bugs in MIUI 13-15, especially after updates.

• 🔄 Resetting notification settings: Settings → Annexes → Application management → Three dots (menu) → Reset the notification settings.
• 📱 Clearing the cache MIUI System UI: Open the Settings. → Annexes → Application management. Press three dots. → Show all the applications. Find the System. UI (or MIUI Select the Warehouse → Clear the cache.
