How to remove the keyboard sound on Xiaomi: all the ways to MIUI 14/15

Keyboard sounds on Xiaomi smartphones can be annoying — especially if you type frequently in public or at night. By default, MIUI includes sound effects for all system and third-party keyboards, but you can turn them off in a few steps. In this article, we will discuss all the current methods for Redmi, POCO and Black Shark based on Android 12/13/14 with the MIUI 14/15 shell.

Important: some methods depend on the firmware version and device model. For example, on the POCO F5 and Redmi Note 12, the path to settings may differ from the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. We will specify universal solutions and separately note the nuances for specific lines.

If you use the side of the keyboard (Gboard, SwiftKey, Fleksy), their audio settings are adjusted separately — this is also discussed below.

1. Disable the sound of the Xiaomi system keyboard (MIUI Keyboard)

By default, all Xiaomi smartphones have a branded MIUI Keyboard. To remove sounds when typing:

1. Open Settings → Additional → Language and input.
2. Slip on the Current Keyboard (or Keyboard Management on newer versions of MIUI).
3. Select MIUI Keyboard (could be called Xiaomi Keyboard).
4. Go to the keyboard settings → Sound and vibration.

To turn off the keyboard sound only in certain applications (for example, in Telegram at night):

1. Go to Settings → Sound and vibration → Do not disturb.
2. Select the Schedule or Automatic Rules.
3. Create a rule, such as "Good evening" from 22:00 to 8:00.
4. In the settings of the rule, mark Disable Media and Disable System Sounds.

Important: Do not disturb also turns off alarm clocks - keep this in mind when setting up your schedule.

Xiaomi smartphones have a Game Turbo mode that can override the audio settings, if the keyboard only makes sounds in games or Discord:

1. Open Settings → Special features → Game Turbo
2. Select the sound settings in the games.
3. Turn off keyboard sounds and system sounds.

⚠️ Attention: Black Shark and POCO The F-Series game mode may be called Black Shark Space or POCO Launcher Game Mode. In this case:

• 🎮 Launch the Game Center from the Apps menu;
• 🔧 Go to Settings. → Sound;

5. Alternative methods for custom firmware (Xiaomi.EU, PixelExperience)

If you use an informal firmware (e.g. Xiaomi.EU or LineageOS), the standard settings may not work.

Method 1: ADB-Teams (for experienced users)

Connect your smartphone to your PC and do it in ADB Shell:

settings put system sound_effects_enabled 0

This command turns off all system sounds, including the keyboard. To return, replace 0 with 1.

Method 2: Editing the build.prop file

⚠️ Warning: This method requires root rights and can disrupt the system!

1. Open build.prop in the root directory (use Root Explorer).
2. Add the line: ro.config.nocheckin=sound.
3. Save the file and restart the device.

Before editing build.prop, make a copy of it on your PC. If the smartphone doesn't boot after the changes, you can restore the file via TWRP.

6.If nothing helps: resetting keyboard settings

In rare cases, the audio settings may be disrupted by a conflict of updates, to reset the keyboard to factory settings:

1. Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
2. Find the MIUI Keyboard (or Xiaomi Keyboard).
3. Select Warehouse. → Clear the data.
4. Confirm the action – this will remove all user dictionaries and settings.

⚠️ Note: After the reset will have to again:

• 🔤 Set up input languages;
• 📝 Add custom words to the dictionary;
• 🎨 Select the keyboard theme.

If the problem persists, check your smartphone for viruses (e.g., through Mi Security) – some malware can change system sounds.

Resetting the keyboard is a last resort, and before doing so, try clearing the cache (without deleting the data) and restarting the device.
