How to remove the vibration of the keyboard on Xiaomi: all the ways for MIUI 14/15

Why Keyboard Vibration is Irritating and How to Turn It Off Forever

Tactile recoil when typing is a feature that is not popular with everyone. For some users, the vibration of the keyboard on Xiaomi creates the illusion of "pressing real buttons", for others it becomes a source of constant irritation, especially in quiet rooms where the sound of a vibration motor is heard by others, or during prolonged typing, when fingers are tired of unnecessary microvibrations.

In Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO, the keyboard vibration is enabled by default in the MIUI firmware, and it can work even if all other vibrations are turned off in the system settings (for example, when calling or notifications), this is due to the fact that the MIUI keyboard and third-party keyboards (such as Gboard or SwiftKey) control the tactile output regardless of the global parameters of the phone.

In this article, weโ€™ll look at 5 proven ways to turn off the keyboard vibration on any Xiaomi device, from the budget Redmi Note to the flagship Xiaomi 14. The instructions are relevant for MIUI 14/15 and Android 13/14, but most methods work on older versions, and youโ€™ll also learn how to return the vibration back if it suddenly disappeared after the system update.

Method 1: Turn off vibration in a standard MIUI keyboard

If you use your native MIUI keyboard (itโ€™s called the Xiaomi Keyboard or Mi Keyboard), the easiest way to remove the vibration is through its settings, which works on all models, including the Xiaomi 13T, Redmi Note 12 and POCO F5.

Instructions:

  1. Open any field to enter text (for example, notes or messenger).
  2. Touch the gear badge (โš™๏ธ) on the keyboard to open its settings.
  3. Go to the section Settings of the keyboard โ†’ Sound and vibration.
  4. Turn off the Vibration switch when pressed.

If you have an older version of MIUI (like 12 or 13), the path may be slightly different.

โš ๏ธ Note: On some models (e.g. Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite) it may reappear after the keyboard vibration is turned off. MIUI, which is corrected only by a complete reset of the keyboard settings (see Method 5).

Method 2: Configure vibration in Gboard (Google Keyboard)

Many Xiaomi users install Gboard, a keyboard from Google that is considered more convenient and functional, and it also has a vibration, but it turns off differently than in the standard MIUI keyboard.

How to remove vibration in Gboard:

  1. Open any application with text input (such as Telegram).
  2. Click on the gear icon on the keyboard, then select Settings.
  3. Go to the Settings โ†’ Sound when pressed.
  4. Turn off the Vibration option when you press the keys.

If you donโ€™t have this item displayed, upgrade Gboard to the latest version on Google Play. Also check if additional themes are installed for the keyboard โ€“ some of which can override vibration settings.

In Gboard, you can adjust the vibration force: in the same sound settings, select "Vibration Intensity" and move the slider to a minimum if you do not want to turn it off completely.

๐Ÿ”น Gboard has a voice input feature that allows you to dictate text instead of typing, which completely eliminates the problem with vibration - activate it through the microphone icon on the keyboard.

Method 3: Global Vibration Disconnection in MIUI settings

If the keyboard vibration is not turned off through its own settings, you can try to completely ban vibration at the system level, which is a radical method, since it will block all vibrations on the phone (when calling, notifications, touching the screen), but in some cases it is the only one that works.

How to turn off the vibration completely:

  1. Go to Settings. โ†’ Sound and vibration.
  2. Select Vibration (or Tactile Feedback in newer versions of MIUI).
  3. Turn off all switches: ๐Ÿ“ž Vibration on the bell ๐Ÿ”” Vibration on notifications ๐Ÿ–ฑ๏ธ Vibration on touch

Method 4: Turning off vibration through ADB (for advanced)

If standard methods donโ€™t work, you can use ADB, a developer tool that allows you to change Androidโ€™s hidden settings, which is suitable for all Xiaomi models, but requires you to connect your phone to your computer.

Step-by-step:

  1. Turn on the Developer Mode on your phone: ๐Ÿ”ง Go to Settings. โ†’ The phone. ๐Ÿ”จ Press 7 times on the version MIUI, Notice: โ€œYou have become a developer".

  • ๐Ÿ”Œ Back to Settings โ†’ Additionally. โ†’ For developers.
  • ๐Ÿ” Find and turn on the debugging. USB.
  • Connect your phone to your PC and execute the command: adb shell settings put system haptic_feedback_enabled 0 This command disables all tactile feedback, including keyboard vibration.

For Gboard, the process is similar, but the way is this: Settings โ†’ Apps โ†’ Gboard โ†’ Storage โ†’ Clear data.

Keyboard reset removes all saved words and input histories. If you use autocomplete passwords or frequently type in complex terms, pre-backup via Gboard Settings โ†’ Dictionary โ†’ Export (not available on all devices).

๐Ÿ”น Alternative: Instead of a full reset, you can try to remove the updates for the keyboard. โ‹ฎ โ†’ Remove the updates. After that, the keyboard will return to the factory version, where the vibration can be turned off by default.

What to do if the vibration of the keyboard disappears on its own

Sometimes Xiaomi users face the opposite problem: the keyboard vibration stopped working for no apparent reason, this can happen after updating MIUI, resetting settings or installing third-party applications.

  • ๐Ÿ”„ Reset the phone. Often the vibration goes away because of a temporary malfunction of the vibration motor.
  • ๐Ÿ”ง Check the keyboard settings. The vibration may have been accidentally turned off (see Method 1).
  • ๐Ÿ“ฒ Update the firmware. In some versions MIUI 14 was a bug that caused the vibration to turn off after the app update.
  • ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ If the vibration motor is not working anywhere (bells, notifications), the motor itself may have failed.
