Many owners of Redmi smartphones face intrusive tactile response when printing messages. On the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9, this feature is activated by default, which can be annoying in quiet rooms or during prolonged communication. Constant vibration not only distracts, but also contributes to a faster discharge of the deviceβs battery.
Fortunately, the Android-based MIUI operating system provides flexible tools for managing tactile sensations. You can turn this effect off entirely or adjust its intensity to your preferences. In this article, we will take a look at all the available vibration deactivation methods for both built-in and third-party keyboards.
Before we get to the settings, it's worth noting that menu paths may vary slightly depending on the firmware version, but the basic logic of the system remains the same for all devices of the brand. Let's look at the main ways to solve the problem.
System vibration adjustment through general parameters
The first and most obvious way is to use the system's global sound settings, which affect all system sounds and tactile responses, including keystrokes, so to get to the desired section, you have to open the main menu and select the Settings icon.
The list that opens is Sounds and Vibration, and you'll find all the sliders that control the volume of the various notifications, scroll down to the Tactile Response or Touch Vibration box, and moving the slider to the far left position will completely shut down the mechanical response of the screen to your actions.
β οΈ Warning: Disabling system vibration through general settings also deaktivates tactile response when dialing in the phone book and navigating through the interface menu.
If you want to leave the vibration for calls, but remove it when you type, this method may seem too radical, in which case you should use more point settings directly in the keyboard application, which we will talk about later.
Turning off vibration in the standard Gboard keyboard
Most global firmware versions for the Redmi Note 9 pre-installed Google's Gboard keyboard, a modern and functional tool that has its own independent settings, and access any application that requires text input, such as a message or note.
When the keyboard appears on the screen, press and hold the central comma button or the gear icon in the top toolbar. In the menu that opens, select Settings. Follow the Preference path and find the Vibration switch when you press.
βοΈ Checking Gboard settings
Once you turn off this slider, the keys will stop vibrating, but they will retain the soundtrack if it's not turned off separately, and you can adjust the duration of the vibration here if you don't want to shut it down completely, and you can just select the minimum value or move the intensity slider to the left.
Vibration control in the Sogou keyboard for MIUI
Devices designed for the CIS and some other regions often use the Sogou keyboard, adapted for the MIUI shell. Its interface is different from standard Android, which can cause difficulties for users. To remove the annoying vibration, click on the gear icon in the keyboard toolbar.
In the settings menu, select Sound and Vibration or Sound & Vibration. Here you will see a slider that controls the vibration of the keys. Move it to the leftmost position to the off or 0 value. This action will instantly stop the tactile return when printing.
| Parameter | Standard (Gboard) | MIUI (Sogou) | SwiftKey |
|---|---|---|---|
| The path to settings | Settings β Preferences | A gear. β Sound and vibration | Menu β Settings β Sounds and vibrations |
| Shutting down the sound | Separate switch | Separate switch | Separate switch |
| Force adjustment | Got it (slideer) | Got it (slideer) | Got it (slideer) |
| Impact on the system | Just the keyboard. | Just the keyboard. | Just the keyboard. |
It's worth noting that in some versions of the firmware, Sogou keyboard settings can be hidden in the deeper menu. If you didn't find the slider right away, look for the Additional tab. There are often extended input options.
Use of Do Not Disturb Mode for Silence
There's a situational way to turn off vibrations that doesn't require you to change the system's continual settings. Do Not Disturb allows you to temporarily block all audio and tactile signals, including keyboard vibrations, which is convenient when you're in a movie, in a meeting or going to bed.
You can activate this mode through the notification curtain. Swipe down from top to top to open the control center, and find the icon with the image of the crescent. Pressing it will turn on silence mode. In more detailed settings of this mode, you can allow vibration for selected contacts, leaving the keyboard "mute."
Automation of this process is available through a schedule. You can set the phone so that the "Do Not Disturb" mode is activated on its own at certain times of the day. To do this, go to Settings β Sounds and vibrations β Do not disturb and set the desired time intervals.

Use the Google Assistant or Mi AI voice assistant, saying βEnable Do Not Disturbβ to quickly activate silence without looking for icons.
Third-party applications for input customization
If Xiaomiβs standard tools donβt suit you, you can always turn to third-party solutions from the Google Play store. Apps like SwiftKey or Yandex Keyboard offer more flexible tactile response settings and even allow you to create your own vibration profiles.
Installing an alternative keyboard requires the system to be given permissions. Once installed, the app will prompt you to activate it as your primary input method. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the setup. In the menu of such applications, the vibration section is usually prominently displayed.
The advantage of third-party keyboards is that you can fine-tune the duration and the strength of the vibration for different areas of the screen or character types, for example, you can leave a light vibration for letters, but completely disable it for numbers or special characters.
β οΈ Warning: When installing third-party keyboards from unverified sources, be careful as they can access all the text you type, including passwords.
Diagnostics of problems with vibromotor
Sometimes users try to remove the vibration software, although the problem lies in the hardware or software failure. If the keyboard vibrates spontaneously, without pressing, or makes strange sounds, this may indicate a malfunction of the Redmi Note 9 vibrator motor.
You can use an engineering menu to diagnose the problem. In the Phone app, dial ##6484##. This will open the CIT test menu. Select the vibration item and check the motor. If the vibration is not working properly in the test mode, the software settings will not help.
What if the vibration is left after the adjustment?
Also worth checking for system updates. Xiaomi developers regularly release patches that fix bugs in the operation of tactile drivers. Go to Settings β About the phone and click on the MIUI version to check the relevance of the software.

If the software methods do not help, and the vibration in the test menu works chaoticly, it is likely that a replacement of the vibromotor in the service center is required.
