Why Xiaomi Keyboard Vibrates and How to Fix It
Vibration when typing on Xiaomi smartphones is one of the most controversial features of MIUI. For some users, tactile response improves print accuracy, for others becomes a source of irritation. Especially the problem is relevant on the Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 and Xiaomi 13 models, where the default vibration is turned on at maximum power.
The main causes of unwanted vibration:
- ๐น Included system function of tactile response in Settings โ Sound and vibration
- ๐น Settings of the standard Gboard keyboard or MIUI Keyboard reset to factory
- ๐น Conflict after update MIUI 14/15, When the vibration parameters are removed
- ๐น Failures in the service com.miui.touchassistant, responsible for tactile feedback
In this article, we will discuss all the ways to turn off vibrations, from basic settings to hidden developer parameters, and we will focus on models with linear vibrators (for example, Xiaomi 12T), where the tactile response is felt more strongly.
Method 1: Disabling vibration in MIUI system settings
The fastest method is to deactivate the tactile response globally, and this will affect not only the keyboard, but also other system events (unlock, notification).
Instructions:
- Open the Settings. โ Sound and vibration
- Scroll to the Vibration block and select Vibration when touching.
- Move the slider to the off position. or select the option without vibration.
- For models with MIUI 15, check the system buttons Vibration option.
โ๏ธ Checking system vibration settings
Important: Some firmware (e.g. MIUI Global 14.0.4) may have the option called Tactile Feedback. If it doesn't, your version of MIUI uses the default keyboard settings.
โ ๏ธ Note: Turning off system vibration does not always remove the response in games and some applications (for example, TikTok or Instagram.
Method 2: Configure the standard MIUI Keyboard
If you use the MIUI Keyboard, you can turn off the vibration directly in the keyboard settings, and this method does not affect other system events.
Step-by-step:
- Open any field to enter text (such as Notes)
- Touch the badge. โ๏ธ keyboard โ Select Settings
- Go to Additional Settings โ Vibration when pressed
- Turn off the slider or select No vibration.
| MIUI version | The path to settings | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| MIUI 12-13 | Keyboard settings โ Sound and vibration | The option may be called "Tactile response". |
| MIUI 14 | Additionally. โ Key vibrations | In addition, there is a regulation of the vibration force. |
| MIUI 15 (Beta) | Personalization โ Keyboard response | In some assemblies, the option is hidden |
On Xiaomi models with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor (such as the Xiaomi 13 Ultra), the standard keyboard can ignore vibration settings due to performance optimizations, in which case resetting keyboard settings or switching to Gboard will help.
Method 3: Turn off vibration in Gboard (Google Keyboard)
If you prefer Gboard, the algorithm will be different.Google regularly updates the keyboard interface, so the path to settings may be different.
The current instructions for Gboard v13.0+:
- Open any text field โ touch the badge โ๏ธ keyboard
- Select Settings โ Settings โ Sound when pressed
- Turn off the Vibration option when you press the keys
- To completely turn off, also deactivate the Sound when pressed
Tip: Gboard has a hidden vibration force setting to activate it.
Settings โ Additional โ Code: vibrate_amplitude
Enter the value from 0 (no vibration) to 100 (maximum)๐ก
If the vibration settings are reset after the Gboard update, clear the app's cache in "Settings โ Apps โ Gboard โ Memory โ Clear the cache."
Method 4: Using the Developer Mode
For power users, there's a method to completely shut down the vibration through the developer's settings, which will help if the standard methods don't work.
How to turn on the developer mode:
- Go to Settings. โ The phone.
- Find the MIUI version and tap it 7 times
- Enter the device password if required
Now open Settings โ More โ For developers and find:
- ๐ง Turn off vibration when touching (complete shutdown)
- ๐ง Vibration force (set to 0)
- ๐ง Disable Haptic Feedback (for models with linear vibrator motor)
โ ๏ธ Attention: On some firmware (MIUI China) the developer options may be hidden, and activation requires the execution of a command via ADB: adb shell settings put global hidden_api_policy 1
What to do if there is no option for developers
Method 5: Reset keyboard settings to factory
If the vibration returns after a reboot or update, resetting the keyboard will help, which will delete all user words and themes, but return factory settings.
Instructions for MIUI Keyboard:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management
- Find the MIUI (or LatinIME) keyboard
- Select Memory โ Clear the data and confirm
For Gboard:
- Open Settings โ Applications โ Gboard
- Press Memory. โ Clear all data
- Reset the device
Important: After the reset, you will have to again:
- ๐ Set up input languages
- ๐ Add custom words to the dictionary
- ๐ Select the theme of the design
๐ก
Resetting your keyboard settings is a last resort, and before you do that, try clearing only the cache (the "Clear Cache" option in the app's memory menu).
Additional recommendations and frequent errors
If none of these methods helped, check:
- Application conflict: Some programs (such as Game Turbo or Second Space) can override vibration settings.
- Firmware Update: Some MIUI builds 14.0.6-14.0.8 had a vibration error. Check for updates in Settings โ Software Update.
- Hardware malfunctions: If the vibration is running continuously (even without typing), this may indicate damage to the vibrator motor.
Frequent user errors:
- โ Turn off vibration only in the keyboard, but forget about the system settings
- โ Do not restart the device after changes (some settings apply only after reboot)
- โ Confused Vibration When Touched With Notification Vibration
