Vibration when typing on Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO smartphones can be annoying โ especially if you write a lot in instant messengers or work with documents. This feature, designed for tactile feedback, is often turned on by default in the MIUI firmware or third-party keyboards. Fortunately, you can turn it off in a few steps, but the methods differ depending on the version of the system, the phone model and the keyboard used.
In this article, we will analyze all current methods: from standard settings MIUI You will learn how to remove the vibration in both the Gboard system keyboard (from Google) and the Mi Keyboard, as well as what to do if the settings are reset after the update. MIUI 15, where the settings interface has changed.
Before you start, check your firmware version: go to Settings โ About Phone โ MIUI version. This will help you determine which one is right for you. Also note that some models (for example, Xiaomi 13 Ultra or POCO F5) may have additional vibration options in game mode โ they should also be disabled separately.
1. Disabling vibration in the MIUI system settings
The most obvious way is to use the standard MIUI settings, which works on most devices, including the Redmi Note 12, Xiaomi 12T and older models on MIUI 12-15.
- Open Settings (the gear icon on the main screen).
- Go to the section Sound and vibration.
- Scroll down to the Vibration block and click on it.
- Turn off Vibration slider when pressed (or Tactile Feedback in newer versions).
If this is not the case, then the vibration is controlled at the keyboard level, move to the next section. On some firmware (e.g. MIUI for the global market), the option may be called Touch vibration.
โ ๏ธ Note: On Xiaomi Pad 6 and other tablets, the path may be different: Settings โ Display. โ Touch vibration. Also check if Game Turbo is on, which sometimes override system settings.
2. Vibration setting in the Gboard keyboard
If you're using Gboard, the vibration is controlled separately from the system settings, which is suitable for all Xiaomi models that have Android 10 installed and later.
- Open any field to enter text (for example, WhatsApp or Telegram).
- Click on the gear icon (โ๏ธ) in the top keyboard bar to open Gboard settings.
- Select Text Input Options (or Text Correction in English).
- Scroll to the Vibration section when pressed and turn off the slider.
If there is no gear icon, go to the settings via the application: Settings โ System โ Language and input โ Virtual keyboard โ Gboard โ Text input options.
Open field for entering text|Found an icon โ๏ธ keyboard|Slider "Vibration upon pressing" is disabled"|Verified in several annexes-->
Important: Gboard also has a separate vibration setting for gestures (like swipe input). To turn it off, find gesture vibration in the same settings and deactivate it.
3. disable vibration in Mi Keyboard (branded keyboard Xiaomi)
The Mi Keyboard (set by default on many Xiaomi devices) has its own vibration settings. The interface may vary depending on the MIUI version, but the general logic is maintained:
- Open any text field and tap the keyboard icon in the bottom panel (usually an icon). โจ๏ธ or ๐).
- Press three points (โฎ) in the upper right corner and select Settings.
- Go to the Press Review (or Key Press Response) section.
- Turn off the Vibration and Sound options.
On MIUI 14/15, the path may be different: Settings โ Additional โ Key Vibration. If the keyboard hasnโt been updated, some items may be missing.
| MIUI version | The path to vibration settings | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| MIUI 12โ13 | Keyboard settings โ Review when pressed | It could be called tactile feedback. |
| MIUI 14 | Additionally. โ Key vibrations | In some regions, the option is hidden. |
| MIUI 15 (Android 14) | Input parameters โ Physical feedback | The latest keyboard update is required |
โ ๏ธ Attention: POCO F4 and POCO X5 Pro proprietary keyboard may not be available โ instead it uses Gboard. โ Annexes โ Application management, which keyboard is installed by default.
4. Hidden vibration settings through developer mode
If standard methods don't work, you can turn off the vibration through developer mode, and this is true for custom firmware devices, or if the settings are lost after the update. Here's how to do this:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings โ About Phone and 7 times click on the MIUI Version. You will be notified of becoming a developer!.
- Return to the main settings and open a new Developer section (usually at the bottom of the list).
- Find the option to turn off vibration when touching (or Disable touch vibration) and activate it.
Some devices (such as Xiaomi 11T Pro) may require additional configuration: in the same section, find Vibration when interacting and set the value Unplugged.
๐ก
If you still feel the vibration after you shut down, restart your phone. Some settings only apply after the reboot.
Warning: There are options in Developer Mode that can disrupt system stability. Do not change other settings unless you are sure of their purpose. For example, disabling Windows Animation is not due to vibration, but can worsen the user experience.
5.Outstanding issues after upgrade: why vibrations are coming back
Many Xiaomi users are faced with the fact that after updating MIUI or Android vibration settings are reset, this is due to the fact that the system restores default settings for new features.
- ๐ฑ Create a backup of settings: Use Settings โ Additionally. โ Backup and reset to keep current settings before updating.
- ๐ Reverse to the old version of the keyboard: If the problem occurred after the Mi Keyboard or Gboard update, remove the updates in Settings โ Annexes โ Application management โ [keyboard] โ โฎ โ Remove updates.
- ๐ ๏ธ Use it. ADB-For experienced users, there is a way to turn off vibration forever through the command: adb shell settings put system haptic_feedback_enabled 0 (required ADB and the debugging on USB).
On the Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 14 with MIUI 15, vibration can be controlled by artificial intelligence (Adaptive Vibration function). To turn it off, go to Settings โ Special Features โ Vibration and deactivate the Adaptive Vibration option.
What if the vibration is only in one application?
6.Alternative solutions: third-party keyboards and applications
If none of these methods worked, consider using alternative keyboards. Here are the best options without vibration by default:
- โจ๏ธ SwiftKey (Microsoft): Disables vibration in Settings โ Sound and vibration โ Press vibration.
- ๐น Fleksy: Minimalist keyboard without unnecessary effects. Vibration can be turned off in Settings โ Tipping.
- ๐ AnySoftKeyboard: Open-source solution with flexible tactile feedback settings.
Before installing a third-party keyboard, remove the current cache: Settings โ Annexes โ Application management โ [keyboard] โ Clear the cache.
Important: Some keyboards (like SwiftKey) may collect your input data to improve predictions. disable this feature in the app's privacy settings if it's critical.
7. Hardware causes of vibration: when the problem is not in the settings
If the vibration doesn't turn off in any of these ways, it could be a hardware malfunction, and here are some signs that it's not the software settings that are involved:
- ๐ Vibration can be felt even on a locked screen.
- ๐ฑ The phone vibrates when touching any part of the screen, not just the keyboard.
- ๐ Vibration is accompanied by strange sounds or overheating.
In such cases, the problem may be related to:
- ๐ง Faulty vibrator: Frequent problem on Redmi Note 10 Pro after falls.
- ๐ Close the plume: Occurs after disassembling the phone or getting moisture.
- ๐ค Failure in the vibration controller: Solved by flashing or replacing the motherboard.
For diagnosis:
- Run the hardware component test using the code ##4636## (Equipment Testing section).
- If the vibration is in the test, it's a hardware malfunction.
๐ก
If the vibration appears after a fall or moisture, DO NOT attempt to disassemble the phone yourself - this can lead to a short circuit.
