Vibration of the keyboard on the Xiaomi Mi 8 can be a useful feature for those who are used to tactile feedback when typing. However, over time, many users begin to experience discomfort: constant jitters in the case annoying, reduces the speed of printing and even drains the battery faster by 3-5% per day of active use, especially when you work with long chats or documents.
Complicating the problem, different versions of MIUI and alternative keyboards (such as Gboard or SwiftKey) have their vibration settings hidden in non-obvious menus, and after system updates, settings can be dropped or even disappeared from the interface. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to disable vibrations, from standard settings to hidden commands for power users.
Why does the vibration of the keyboard not turn off?
Before we get into the instructions, it is important to understand why the vibration continues to work even after trying to deactivate it.
- ๐ Settings conflict MIUI Keyboards and keyboards: The keyboard system and application may have separate vibration parameters that duplicate each other.
- ๐ฑ Firmware update: After installing the new version MIUI settings can be reset to default values.
- ๐ค System applications: Some services (e.g. com.miui.touchassistant) may force vibrations to be enabled.
- ๐ง Damaged configuration files: Rarely, but it happens that settings are saved incorrectly due to malfunctions /data/system/users/0/.
If you've tried to turn off the vibration through the keyboard menu, but nothing has happened, chances are that the problem lies in one of these points. Next, we'll look at the solutions for each case.
Method 1: Turn off vibration in a standard MIUI keyboard
If you use Xiaomiโs native keyboard (aka Mi Keyboard), the most obvious way is to go to its settings.
- Open any application where you can type text (such as Notes or Messages).
- Tap the input field to make the keyboard appear.
- Press the gear icon (โ๏ธ) in the top row of the keyboard to open the settings.
- Go to Sound and Vibration (or Feedback when pressed in newer versions of MIUI).
- Turn off the switch next to the Vibration point when pressed.
If you donโt have one on your menu, you may be using an outdated version of the keyboard, in which case you can try updating it via Google Play or use an alternative method (see Method 3).
Update the MIUI keyboard to the latest version
Make sure there are no active "Do Not Disturb" profiles
Reboot your phone after the changes-->
โ ๏ธ Note: In some firmware (for example, MIUI 12.5 Enhanced) Vibration settings can be hidden in the Additional settings section โ Tactile feedback. If you can't find a point right away, check all the tabs!
Method 2: Deactivate vibration in Gboard (Google keyboard)
Many Xiaomi Mi 8 users prefer Gboard because of its easier gesture input and support, and this keyboard switches off the vibration in a different way:
- Open Gboard in any text field.
- Click on the three-point icon (โฎ) in the top row and select Settings.
- Go to the section Text entry parameters.
- Find the Vibration item when pressing the keys and move the slider to the off position.
- To completely disable also deactivate the Sound when you press the keys.
If the vibration is still felt after these actions, check the MIUI system settings (see Method 4) as they may overlap Gboard settings.
| keyboard | The path to vibration settings | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard MIUI | A gear. โ Sound and vibration โ Press vibration | MIUI 14+ may be referred to as "Tactile Feedback". |
| Gboard | โฎ โ Settings โ Input parameters โ Vibration. | Requires the latest version from Google Play |
| SwiftKey | Settings โ Sound and vibration โ Vibration | Can conflict with MIUI system settings |
Method 3: Using ADB to force vibrations to shut down
If the standard methods don't work, you can use the ADB debugging bridge, which is suitable for power users and requires you to connect your phone to your computer.
- Turn on Developer Mode on Xiaomi Mi 8: Go to Settings โ About Phone. Click 7 times on MIUI Version until the notification โYou are a developerโ appears.
USB debugging
Settings โ Additional settings โ For developers
ADB
adb shell settings put system haptic_feedback_enabled 0adb shell settings put secure miui_keyboard_vibrate_on 0Reset the device.
This method turns off vibration at the system level, so once it is applied, it will disappear not only in the keyboard, but also in other elements of the interface (for example, when you press the buttons in the menu). If you want to return the vibration, replace it in the commands 0 by 1.
What if the ADB does not recognize the device?
Method 4: Checking the MIUI system settings
Sometimes the keyboard vibration is controlled not only by its own parameters, but also by MIUI global settings. To turn it off completely, follow the following steps:
- Go to Settings. โ Sound and vibration.
- Find the Vibration (or Tactile Feedback) section.
- Turn off all vibration-related switches: ๐ฑ Vibration on touch ๐ Keyboard vibration (if any) ๐ Vibration in silent mode
Save the changes and restart the phone.
If your version of MIUI doesn't have a separate keyboard item, try resetting the audio settings to the standard one.
- In the same section, Sound and Vibration click on Three Dots (โฎ) โ Reset the settings.
โ ๏ธ Warning: Resetting the sound settings will return all parameters (including alarm clock volume and notification melody) to factory values.
Method 5: Remove the cache and keyboard data
If the vibration doesnโt turn off because of a keyboard failure, you can try clearing the keyboard cache and data, which wonโt delete your texts or dictionaries, but will reset all personal settings (including themes and layouts).
Instructions:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Find your keyboard in the list: ๐ค For standard: Keyboard MIUI Mi Keyboard. โจ๏ธ For Gboard: Google Keyboard.
Warehouse โ Clear the cache
Clear the data
Reboot your phone and adjust the vibration again.
After cleaning the data, the keyboard will need to be reconfigured: add dictionaries, select a language, and turn off vibration (see Method 1 or Method 2).
๐ก
If the keyboard is unstable after cleaning the data, try reinstalling it. For a standard MIUI keyboard, you can do this through Settings โ Applications โ Remove updates (if the button is active).
Additional advice and possible problems
Even after all these methods are applied, the vibration can persist, and here are some non-obvious causes and solutions:
- ๐ Battery savings: In Ultra-saving mode MIUI It can ignore some vibration settings. Turn off this mode in Settings. โ Battery.
- ๐ต Sound profiles: If the Meet or Sleep profile is activated, the vibration may be forced to turn on. โ Sound. โ Profiles.
- ๐ ๏ธ Castom firmware: On informal builds (like LineageOS or Pixel Experience), vibration settings may work differently. โ System system โ Language and input.
- ๐ฆ Viruses or malware: Some applications may change system settings. Check your phone with antivirus (e.g. Mi Security).
If none of these methods worked, the last option is to reset your phone to factory settings. Before you do that, make sure to back up your data through Settings โ Additional โ Backup and Reset.
๐ก
Before resetting to factory settings, try creating a new user on the system (Settings โ System โ Multiplayer). If the new user has a normal vibration shutdown, the problem is in your profile, not your phone.
