Key vibration on Xiaomi smartphones is one of those features that either makes typing easier or annoying to the shiver in your fingers. If you fall into the second category of users, this article will help to completely disable tactile recoil - as in standard applications (MIUI Launcher, Camera, Phone, and Gboard or SwiftKey keyboard, and we'll take a look at all the methods available, from basic settings to hidden developer and software settings. ADB-Teams for Advanced Users.
Compounding the problem, different MIUI versions (12 to 15) and different models (Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Xiaomi 13T) may have different ways to turn off vibrations, some of which are hidden in the special features settings, some of which are not in the graphical interface at all. In this article, you will find solutions for all cases, including those when vibration returns after a reboot or upgrade.
Why does the vibration of the keys annoy?
Tactile recoil was invented to improve the user experience: a slight vibration at the press of a button gives the brain feedback that the command is fulfilled, but in practice, many people face the opposite effect:
- π Battery consumption: The vibratory motor is one of the most voracious components of a smartphone, and when you type it can eat up to the point of typing. 5-7% Charge per hour (tests on Redmi Note) 11 Pro+ pressed 60 minutely).
- π΅ Conflict with sounds: Vibration often duplicates sound signals (like WhatsApp or Telegram), creating a cacophony.
- π οΈ The constant operation of the vibration motor accelerates the wear of its bearings, which can lead to extraneous noise (typical for models older than 2 years).
- π§ Distraction: For people with hypersensitivity or neurological features (such as misophonia), vibration can cause physical discomfort.
Interestingly, MIUI 14 and later has the default vibration enabled even in Do Not Disturb mode, which many users consider a design error. Fortunately, this can be fixed β read about this in the next section.
Method 1: Disabling vibration in MIUI system settings
The most obvious method is to use the built-in MIUI options. But there are pitfalls: depending on the firmware version and smartphone model, the path to settings may differ. We have compiled the current instructions for MIUI 12-15.
For most modern devices (Xiaomi 13/14, Redmi Note 12/13, POCO F5/X5), follow the following steps:
- Open the Settings. β Sound and vibration.
- Scroll down to the Vibration block and select Vibration when touched.
- Turn off the Vibration slider when pressed (sometimes called Tactile Feedback).
- Go back and go to the Additional Vibration Settings (if any). Turn off the vibration for System Buttons and Keyboard here.
On older versions (MIUI 11 and below), the path might look like this: Settings β System apps β Keyboard β Settings β Dial Vibration. If you have POCO with custom firmware, look for the option in Settings β Special Options β Physical Interaction.
βοΈ Verification of vibration shutdown
β οΈ Note: On some devices (e.g. Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite) after the vibration is turned off in the settings, it can return after the reboot. MIUI, And you can only get around it through ADB (see method 4).
Method 2: Configure the vibration in the keyboard (Gboard, SwiftKey, MIUI Keyboard)
System-based vibration shutdowns don't always affect third-party keyboards. If you're using Gboard (Google keyboard) or SwiftKey (Microsoft), their vibration settings are managed separately. Here's how to do this:
For Gboard:
- Open any field to enter text (e.g., in Messages).
- Press the badge. βοΈ in the top panel of the keyboard (or hold the comma and select Settings).
- Go to Settings β Sound when pressed and turn off Vibration when pressing the keys.
For MIUI Keyboard (standard Xiaomi keyboard):
- Go to Settings β System applications β Keyboard.
- Select the Input Settings β Vibration.
- Turn off the Vibration slider when dialing.
For SwiftKey:
- In the text input field, touch the icon βοΈ keyboard.
- Choose Sound and Vibration.
- Turn off the vibration when you press the keys.
| keyboard | The path to vibration settings | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gboard | Gboard settings β Settings β Vibration when pressed | On some devices, the option is hidden behind Additional settings |
| MIUI Keyboard | Settings β System applications β Keyboard β Vibration | MIUI 15 may be called Tactile Feedback. |
| SwiftKey | SwiftKey Settings β Sound and Vibration | Requires a Microsoft account connection to sync |
| Samsung Keyboard | Settings β General management β Language and input β Vibration | Relevant for users who have switched from Samsung to Xiaomi |
β οΈ Warning: If the keyboard vibration still works after it's turned off, check the special features settings. Sometimes the vibration is controlled through Settings. β Special facilities β Physical interaction β Vibration.
Method 3: Use Do Not Disturb Mode to Temporarily Shut Down
If you only need vibrations at certain hours (e.g. at night), you can set up automatic shutdowns through Do Not Disturb mode, which does not remove the vibration completely, but allows you to flexibly control it.
Instructions for MIUI 13-15:
- Go to Settings β Sound and vibration β Do not disturb.
- Select a Schedule and set a time interval (for example, from 23:00 to 7:00).
- Click the Rules β Add the Rule β Vibration.
- Turn off the vibration slider when touching.
- Keep the rule and activate the Do Not Disturb mode.
The advantage of this method is that the vibration will be turned off automatically on a schedule, but note that this mode also blocks notifications and calls (unless exceptions are set).
π‘
If you want vibration only for the alarm clock, add the Watch app to the Do Not Disturb mode exceptions. To do this, select Exceptions β Alarm clocks in the mode settings.
Method 4: Disabling vibration through ADB (for advanced users)
If system settings donβt work (vibration returns after a reboot or update), youβll have to use ADB, the Android debugging tool, which completely removes vibration at the system level and works even where the GUI is powerless.
You'll need:
- π₯οΈ Computer with Windows/macOS/Linux.
- π± Cable USB (preferably original).
- π§ Included Debugging by USB phone-on.
- π¦ Installed drivers Xiaomi and ADB Tools.
Step-by-step:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About Phone. Click 7 times on the MIUI Version until you become a developer!
- Enable USB Debugging: Return to Settings β Additional β Developer. Activate USB Debugging and confirm permission.
adb shell settings put global haptic_feedback_enabled 0
adb shell settings put global vibration_intensity 0adb shell settings put secure haptic_feedback_enabled 0Reset the device.
If the vibration is still there, try an alternative command:
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.android.systemui/.haptic.HapticFeedbackControllerβ οΈ Attention: Teams ADB Change system settings. Misuse can cause interface failures. Backup through Settings before you execute commands. β The phone. β Backup.
What if the ADB does not recognize the device?
Method 5: Using third-party applications to control vibration
If you don't want to go through the settings or use ADB, you can use specialized utilities that allow you to flexibly adjust the vibration, including turning it off completely.
Top.-3 Vibration control applications on Xiaomi:
- π± Vibration Tuner (free, requires root): Allows you to turn off vibration for individual applications. adjusts the intensity and duration of vibration. MIUI 12-15 bug-free.
- π§ MacroDroid (Free): Can automatically turn off vibrations on a schedule or when you run certain applications. It doesn't require root, but some features are limited.
- β‘ Shizuku + AppOps (for advanced): Allows you to block vibration at the application resolution level. Requires settings through ADB (But easier than manual commands).
Example of settings in MacroDroid:
- Create a new macro.
- As a trigger, select the Application launched and specify the keyboard (such as Gboard).
- In actions add Change system settings β Vibration β Disable.
- Save the macro and activate it.
The downside of third-party apps is that they can conflict with MIUI (especially after updates) and require additional permissions, but for users without root, this is often the only working option.
π‘
Applications like Vibration Tuner can completely turn off vibration even where system settings are powerless, but to work steadily, you need to turn off battery optimization for these utilities in Settings β Applications β Permissions β Battery Optimization.
What if the vibration returns after the update?
One of the most common problems with Xiaomi is that it returns vibration after installing MIUI updates, which is because new firmware versions reset some system settings to default values.
Fixation through ADB (permanent decision):
Run a command that blocks the change in vibration parameters:
adb shell cmd device_config put vibration haptic_feedback_locked 1Automation through Tasker:
Create a Tasker task that will turn off vibration when you boot the system:
- Create a new task.
- Add the action of Run Shell.
- Enter the command: settings put global haptic_feedback_enabled 0
- Set up a trigger for the Device Boot event (device boot).
If neither method works, the last option is to roll back the previous version of MIUI. However, this is a radical solution that should be applied only if the vibration is critically interfering with the work. The instructions for rollback can be found in our article "[How to return the old version of MIUI without losing data](link)".
