Why does the volume scale interfere – and can it be turned off?
The volume slider on the Xiaomi Redmi screen appears every time you press physical volume buttons. For most users, this is convenient, but some face problems: the scale overlaps important interface elements (for example, in games or watching videos), distracts in shooting mode or just annoys with its design. Unfortunately, in the standard MIUI settings, there is no direct option to turn it off - but there are workarounds.
In this article, we will discuss 5 proven ways to hide the volume scale on the Redmi Note 10/11/12/13, POCO X3/X4/X5 and other models with MIUI 12-14 firmware. Some methods work without root rights, others require additional manipulation. Importantly, some solutions may conflict with system updates, we will warn you about this in advance.
Before you start, make sure your smartphone is not in power saving mode (Settings → Battery → Power Saving Mode), as this can block changes to system settings. Also check the MIUI version: Settings path → About Phone → MIUI version.
Method 1: Disconnecting through “Special Features” (without root)
The easiest method is to use the built-in Volume Notifications feature in the special features menu, which works on most MIUI 12+ devices, but does not guarantee that the scale will disappear completely - sometimes it continues to appear when the media volume changes.
Instructions:
- 📱 Open the Settings. → Special facilities → Rumor.
- 🔊 Find the Volume Notifications option** and turn it off.
- 🔄 Restart your phone (required!).
If the scale still appears after rebooting, try to further disable MIUI Sound Effects** in Settings → Sound and Vibration → Additional settings. This option sometimes affects the slider's display.
Check the version of MIUI| Backup settings | Turn off power saving mode | Close all background apps
-->
⚠️ Note: Some firmware (e.g. global version for Redmi Note 12 Pro)+) The option "Notifications of volume" may not be available, in which case move to the next method.
Method 2: Use of the ADB-Teams (for experienced users)
If the standard settings did not help, you can turn off the volume scale through ADB (Android Debug Bridge. This method requires you to connect your phone to your computer, but it doesn't need root rights. MIUI 13–14.
Steps:
- Download and install Platform Tools (the official tool from Google).
- Turn on the phone “Debugging by USB”** (Settings → About Phone → MIUI Version (click 7 times) → Additional settings → For developers → Debugging by USB).
- Connect Redmi to your PC and type in the command line:
adb shell settings put global volume_panel_show 0Once you've done the command, restart the device. The volume scale should disappear. To get it back, use the same command, replacing 0 with 1.
| ADB Team Team | The effect | Need a reboot? |
|---|---|---|
| volume_panel_show 0 | Hiding the volume scale | Yes. |
| volume_panel_show 1 | Returns the scale | Yes. |
| settings list global | grep volume | Checks the current volume settings | No. |
⚠️ Attention: After update MIUI setting ADB Save the command in a notebook so you can quickly apply it again.
💡
If ADB does not recognize the device, try reinstalling drivers or using another USB-cable (preferably original from Xiaomi).
Method 3: Applications for hiding system elements
If previous methods have failed, you can use third-party utilities. For example, the Nacho Notch app (available on Google Play) allows you to hide system elements of the interface, including the volume scale, but it requires permission to “overlay on top of other applications” (Settings → Apps → Special Access → Overlay).
Alternative annexes:
- 🔧 «Volume Styles* – changes the design of the slider (including transparency).
- 🛠️ «System UI Tuner"** (requires root) - deep interface setting.
- 🎨 «Hex Installer* – to change system icons (risky!).
Important: Applications like System UI Tuner can cause MIUI malfunctions, including cyclical reboots. Back up through Settings → Additional → Backup and Reset before using them.

Method 4: Edit system files (root only)
For users with unlocked bootloader and root-rights, there is a radical method - editing the systemui.apk file. This method is risky: if you make a mistake, you can get a "brick". We recommend only to experienced users.
Procedure:
- Install Root Explorer or Mixplorer (with root access enabled).
If MIUI starts to glittle after the changes (for example, the status bar is gone), restore the original SystemUI.apk from the backup.
💡
Editing system files can lead to loss of warranty and unstable phone performance, a method only suitable for experienced users with backup data.
Method 5: Reset the sound settings (if the scale appeared after the update)
Sometimes the volume scale starts to behave inadequately after the MIUI update, in which case it helps to reset the sound settings to factory, and this will not delete your data, but return all the sound parameters to default values.
How to reset:
- Open the Settings. → Sound and vibration.
- Slip on three dots in the upper right corner → “Reset settings”**.
- Confirm the action and restart the phone.
If the reset didn't work, check if the scale conflicts with the set topics. For example, some custom themes from MIUI Themes may break the system elements' display.
- 🔙 Choose "Standard" or "Classic».
Frequent problems and solutions
Even after successfully disabling the volume scale, Xiaomi Redmi users are faced with nuances.
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The scale is gone, but the volume is not controlled. | Conflict with the sound control application | Remove third-party sound utilities |
| The slider only appears in games. | Game settings in Game Turbo | Turn off Settings → Game Turbo → Sound settings |
| After the MIUI update, the scale returned | Resetting user settings | Repeat the method with ADB or special features |
If neither method worked, maybe your Redmi model has unique firmware limitations, and then there are two options:
- 🔄 Reverse to the previous version MIUI (instruction FAQ).
- 📱 Install custom firmware (e.g. Pixel Experience or LineageOS).
