Keyboard clicks on Xiaomi smartphones are one of the most annoying features for many users. Even in a quiet environment, loud taps can distract you and others, especially for owners of Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 or Xiaomi 13T models, where the default keyboard sounds are turned on at maximum volume.
Complicating the problem is that different MIUI versions (12 to 14) and Android 11-14 firmware may have different settings, some try to turn off sounds through system settings but fail to find the right item, others find that after updating the settings are reset, and in this article we will look at all possible ways, from standard to hidden, including a solution for stock and third-party keyboards.
It is important to note that some methods require administrator rights or developer mode activation. If you are a beginner, start with simple ways (sections 1-3), experienced users can immediately jump to advanced settings (sections 4-6).
1. Standard sound disabling in MIUI settings
The most obvious way is to use the built-in options, which is enough in most cases, but the location of menu items depends on the version of MIUI.
For MIUI 14 (Android 13/14):
- Open the Settings. β Sound and vibration
- Scroll down to the "Other Sounds" block.
- Click on the Keyboard Sounds and move the slider to the "Off" position.
For MIUI 12/13 (Android 11/12):
- π Go to Settings. β Sound.
- π± Select System Sounds (or Additional Sounds)
- π Turn off the option "Keystroke Sound" or "Keystroke Clicks"
If you don't have "Keyboard Sounds" on your menu, you're using a third-party keyboard (like Gboard or SwiftKey) in which case you'll go to Section 3.
2. Turn off vibration and sounds in keyboard settings
Many users confuse the tap sounds with the vibration output, and these functions are set up separately, so if you still feel the vibration after you turn off the sounds, you need to deactivate it in the parameters of the keyboard itself.
For the MIUI stock keyboard:
- Open any input field (for example, in Messages)
- Press on. βοΈ (cog) in the keyboard panel
- Select Settings β Sound and vibration
- Turn it off: π "Pressing sound" π³ "Press vibration"
For Gboard (Google Keyboard):
- π§ Open the Settings. β System system β Language and input β Virtual keyboard β Gboard
- π΅ Go to Settings. β Press the sound and select "No sound"
- π Similarly, turn off vibration in vibration when pressed.
π‘
If the keyboard sounds returned after the MIUI update, check the sound profile settings in Settings β Sound β Sound Modes. Sometimes the reset occurs due to a conflict with user profiles.
3. Customization of sounds for third-party keyboards (Gboard, SwiftKey)
The side of the keyboard, such as Gboard or SwiftKey, have their own audio settings that are independent of Xiaomi's system settings. If you use an alternative keyboard, standard MIUI shutdown won't work.
For SwiftKey:
- π± Open any text field and tap the icon. βοΈ keyboard
- π Choose Sound and Vibration
- π Turn it off: πΉ "Keyboard sound" π³ "Vibration" π "Sound of language changeβ (if necessary)
Additional options are available for Gboard:
- ποΈ Go to Settings. β System system β Language and input β Gboard β Settings
- π In the Sound section, select "No Sound" for: π Keystrokes. π Language change ποΈ Deletion of symbols

4.Use of Do Not Disturb mode to completely shut down sounds
If you need to temporarily remove all sounds (not just keyboards) but keep notifications on, use Do Not Disturb (DND) mode, a method that is useful in public or at night.
How to set up:
- π Go to Settings. β Notifications and status bar β Don't disturb.
- π§ Select the Rules and create a new rule (e.g., Quiet Mode")
- π The rules set up: π΅ Turn off Media (this will remove keyboard sounds) π³ Allow βNotificationsβ (to avoid missing important messages) β° Set a schedule or activate manually
The downside is that it shuts down all media sounds, including music and video, but it works even for system applications where there are no separate audio settings.

5. Advanced Methods: ADB and Developer Settings
If standard methods do not help (for example, on custom firmware or in corporate devices), you can use ADB-These are the methods that require caution!
Method 1: Through Developer Settings
- π§ Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About the phone and 7 times click on the version MIUI
- π Back to Settings β Additionally. β For developers
- π Find the option βDisable sounds when dialingβ (if any) or disable_keyboard_sounds
Method 2: Through ADB (PC)
- Install ADB Tools on your computer
- Connect Xiaomi to USB and allow debugging (Settings β Developers β Debugging over USB)
- Enter the command: adb shell settings put system sound_effects_enabled 0 This will turn off all system sounds, including the keyboard.
π‘
ADB-The commands affect all system sounds, not just the keyboard, and when you execute the command, you may lose the screen lock, notifications, and other events.
Attention! On some Xiaomi devices with bootloader lock (e.g. global versions of Redmi) ADB-commands to change system settings may not work without unlocking.
6. Reset keyboard settings to factory
If the keyboard sounds are not turned off due to a failure in the settings, resetting the keyboard settings will help. This is safer than completely resetting the phone and does not affect personal data.
For the MIUI stock keyboard:
- π§ Go to Settings. β Annexes β Application management
- π Find the Keyboard. MIUI" (or "Latinime")
- ποΈ Press Warehouse. β Clear the data and clear the cache
- π Reset the device
For Gboard:
- π± Open the Settings. β Annexes β Gboard
- π§ Select Warehouse. β Delete the data
- π After the reboot, the keyboard sounds will be reset to factory settings (usually they are disabled by default)
Warning: Resetting keyboard data will delete user dictionaries and words you have learned, and it is recommended to back up in the keyboard settings (if you have this option).
7. Alternative solutions: installing a quiet keyboard
If none of these methods worked, consider installing an alternative keyboard with minimalist design and no sounds.
| keyboard | Features | Download link |
|---|---|---|
| Simple Keyboard | No sounds, no vibration, open source | Google Play |
| FlorisBoard | Customizable, supports themes, no default sounds | Google Play |
| AnySoftKeyboard | Flexible sound settings, gesture support | Google Play |
Before installation:
- Remove or disable the old keyboard in Settings β System β Language and input
- Download and install a new keyboard from Google Play
- Activate it in the settings and set it by default
β οΈ Note: Some alternative keyboards may not support all languages or have trouble predicting text on Xiaomi's Chinese firmware.
