Why Xiaomi Smartphone Is Voiced Incoming Calls and How to Fix It
Are you tired of intrusive voice-activation every time someone calls you? The feature of voice-over a subscriber's name or phone number when calling you is a standard MIUI firmware option, which is activated by default on many Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO models. This feature can be useful for people with disabilities or in situations where you can't look at the screen (for example, while driving).
In this article, weβll look at all the ways you can turn off voice alerts when youβre calling in, from standard MIUI settings to hidden developer settings. The instructions are relevant for MIUI 12, MIUI 13, and MIUI 14 devices (including HyperOS), and Android versions 11 to 14. If youβre using custom firmware or global/Chinese MIUI, some menu items may be different β weβll mention that too.
Before you go into settings, make sure that the problem is with the system function, not with a third-party application. For example, some launchers (such as POCO Launcher) or spam blocking programs (such as Truecaller) have their own voice mechanisms, in which case you need to turn off voice in the settings of a particular application.
Method 1: Disabling voice alerts in standard MIUI settings
The most obvious and safe method is to use the built-in MIUI settings, which are available on most devices, but the location may vary depending on the firmware version.
- Open the Settings app (the gear icon on the home screen or in the app menu).
- Go to the Sound and Vibration section (some models may call it Sound or Sound and Vibration).
- Scroll down to the Incoming Calls block and select Voice Call Alert.
- Move the slider to the off position or uncheck (depending on the version of MIUI).
If your menu doesnβt have a Call Voice Alert, try an alternative route:
- π± Settings β Annexes β Phone. β Notifications β Voice alerts
- π Settings β Special facilities β Rumor β Voice prompts when calling
βοΈ Pre-switch check
On some models (such as the Xiaomi 12T or Redmi Note 11 Pro+), this option may be hidden under additional options.

If you still hear your voice after you turn it off, check the settings of the Google Contacts or Mi Contacts app, and sometimes the voiceover is turned on separately.
Method 2: Using Do Not Disturb mode to selectively shut down
If you only need to turn off voice alerts at certain hours (e.g. at night) or for specific contacts, you can use the Do Not Disturb (DND) feature, which does not remove voice alerts completely, but allows you to flexibly manage voice voice voice voice voice alerts:
- Open Settings β Sound and vibration β Do not disturb.
- Activate the mode by moving the slider to the position On.
- Click the Schedule and set a time frame (for example, from 23:00 to 8:00).
- In the Exceptions section, select Calls and set up rules: π Allow calls from: All/Favorites/Nobody π Repeated calls: Off (to avoid voiceovers when called again)
Note that in Do Not Disturb mode, not only voice alerts, but other notifications can be blocked. To avoid this, select Only Audible Alerts in the DND settings and turn off Voice Tip.
Method 3: Disconnection through special features settings
In some versions of MIUI (especially older models like the Redmi 5 or Mi A2), voice alerts are tied to special features to deactivate them:
- Go to Settings. β Special facilities.
- Select the Hearing section (or the Vision and Hearing section on some devices).
- Find the option Voice prompts when calling or Voice incoming calls.
- Turn it off by moving the slider or unchecking the tick.
If there is no item in this menu, try an alternative way:
- π§ Settings β Special facilities β Hearing settings β Voice assistant for calls
- π£οΈ Settings β Additionally. β Voice control β Voice-over of challenges
What if there is no βspecial opportunityβ section?
Important: On devices with MIUI for the European Region (EEA), some special features may be limited due to privacy policy.
Method 4: Reset the settings of the Phone application (if standard methods do not work)
If voice alerts are not turned off through the settings menu, the problem may lie in the failure of the configuration of the system application Phone, in which case it will help to reset its parameters to factory:
- Open Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- In the list, find the Phone app (can be called Phone or Contacts and Phone).
- Click on it, then select Warehouse.
- Slip the Clear Data button and confirm the action.
- Reset the device.
β οΈ Note: The phone will delete the call history and can reset individual settings (e.g., quick dial or favorite contacts). We recommend pre-exporting your call history through Google Contacts or third-party utilities like Call Logs Backup & Restore.
After the reboot, check if the voice alert has disappeared. If the problem persists, move on to more radical methods.
Method 5: Disconnect via Developer Settings (for power users)
If all previous methods failed, you can try deactivating voiceovers through the developerβs hidden settings, a method that requires caution, as improper changes can cause the phone to malfunction.
First, activate the developer mode:
- Go to Settings. β The phone.
- Find the MIUI version and tap it 7 times in a row until you become a developer!
Now, follow the following steps:
- Return to the main settings menu and open the Additional β For Developers section (or System β Developer settings).
- Scroll down to the Media or Sound block.
- Find the option to turn off notification sounds when calling or Disable call ringtone voice (on English firmware).
- Activate it by ticking it.
If you donβt have this option, try finding the Audio routing or Sound modifier option and manually disable Call announcement.
β οΈ Note: On some devices (Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Redmi) K60 Pro) Changes in developer settings can result in resetting security certificates (e.g., for Google Pay or banking applications.
π‘
Changes in developer settings are not always saved after the MIUI update. If the voiceover returns after the firmware update, repeat the procedure.
Method 6: Remove the Voice Assistant system application (root only)
On some Xiaomi devices, a separate system application, com.miui.voiceassist or com.xiaomi.voiceassistant, can be removed, but only if you have root rights or unlock the bootloader.
Instructions for users with root:
- Install a file manager with root support (such as Root Explorer or FX File Explorer).
- Go to /system/priv-app/ or /system/app/.
- Find folders with VoiceAssist, MiuiVoiceAssist or similar names.
- Remove them or rename them (e.g., adding.bak at the end).
- Reset the device.
For users without root, an alternative is to disable the application via ADB:
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.voiceassistβ οΈ Warning: Removing system applications may lead to unstable phone operation, interface errors, or inability to obtain OTA-On devices with a locked bootloader, this method will cause a failure on the next update. MIUI, It's a completely reset, and you can only use it if other methods don't work!
Table of compatibility of methods with popular models Xiaomi
The following is a summary table of how different devices work, based on user tests and may vary depending on regional firmware.
| Model of the device | Standard settings | Special opportunities | Developer mode | Root is required. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 13/13 Pro (MIUI 14) | β Yes. | β No. | β οΈ Partially. | β No. |
| Redmi Note 12 Pro+ (MIUI 13) | β Yes. | β Yes. | β Yes. | β No. |
| POCO F5 (HyperOS) | β Yes. | β No. | β οΈ Partially. | β No. |

If your model is not in the table, try the methods in order from the first to the last. On new devices (2023-2026) standard settings are usually enough, whereas on older devices (Redmi 8, Mi 9) you may need to use ADB or root.
