A loud click of a button or a shrill beep from a Xiaomi remote can annoy you and your household, especially at night. Fortunately, most of the remotes from Mi TVs, Mi Box consoles and other devices of the brand allow you to customize or completely disable sound effects. In this article, we will examine all the available methods, from software settings to physical modifications.
It's important to understand that the methods vary depending on the model of the remote and the device it's connected to. For example, the remotes for the Mi TV 4/5 and Mi Box S have different firmware, and some budget models (for example, the Mi TV Stick) may not support audio adjustment at all, we've put together universal solutions that work on most devices, as well as unique instructions for specific lines.
If you're not sure about your remote model, check it by the label on the back or by the settings of the TV/set-top box in the About section, which will help you to choose the method more accurately.
1. Disabling the sound signal through the settings of the TV or console
The easiest way is to use the built-in system options. Most Xiaomi TVs (starting with Mi TV 3) and Mi Box consoles allow you to control the sounds of the remote through the settings menu.
Instructions for Mi TV (including Mi TV 4A, 4S, 5 Pro models):
- Open the settings (cog in the upper right corner).
- Go to System and Update → About the remote control.
- Find the option of button sound or sound signal and move the slider to the position Off.
- Save the changes and check the remote.
For the Mi Box S and Mi Box 4, the way is different.
- Press Home + Back on the remote for 5 seconds at the same time to open the hidden menu.
- Select Remote Control Settings.
- Turn off Key Tone (button sound).
⚠️ Note: Some firmware may call the option differently, such as Feedback Sound or Button Sound. If you do not find an item, update the TV firmware (System Update section).
2. Adjust the volume of the buttons (if it cannot be turned off)
Some remotes (for example, for Mi TV Q1/Q2) do not allow you to completely turn off the sound, but give the opportunity to reduce its volume.
- Go to Settings → Sound → Additional settings.
- Find the System Sounds section.
- Points: Button Volume or Feedback Level – Move the slider to the left to a comfortable level.
If there is no such section, try an alternative method:
- Keep Volume – on the remote for 10 seconds – on some models, this reduces the sound level.
- Repeat the action 2-3 times for maximum effect.

If the buttons are gone after the firmware update, try resetting the remote: press Home + OK for 15 seconds, which will return factory settings, including the audio signals.
3. Physical disabling speaker in the remote (for advanced)
If software methods don’t work, you can physically turn off the speaker inside the remote, which is suitable for models with a collapsible body (for example, Mi Remote Pro or remotes for Mi TV 4X).
You'll need:
- 🔧 Screwdriver cross (size) PH00).
- 🧲 Tweezers or plastic spatulas.
- 🔇 Insulation or heat-glue (optional).

- Carefully tuck the latches on the back cover of the remote (usually 4-6).
- Remove the battery and disconnect the plume if there is one.
- Find a speaker – it’s a small round element with holes (usually next to the buttons).
- Seal off the speaker wires or snack on them with clippers (unless you plan to return the sound back).
- Put the remote in reverse order.

4. Use of alternative remotes or applications
If Xiaomi’s regular remote is not configured, consider alternatives:
- 📱 Application Mi Remote (for the Android/iOS) — It replaces the physical remote and works without sound signals. Download it to Google Play or the App Store.
- 🎮 Universal remotes (e.g. Xiaomi Mi Universal Remote or BroadLink) RM4 Pro) – Supports sound tuning.
- 🖥️ Management through HDMI-CEC (If the TV is connected to a computer or other equipment).
To set up Mi Remote:
- Connect the app to the same Wi-Fi as the TV/set-top box.
- Select a device from the list (e.g. Mi TV 5 or Mi Box S).
- Follow the instructions on the screen for synchronization.
The advantage of the application is that there are no audio signals and you can control it from your phone, and the disadvantage is that you need to be constantly connected to your Wi-Fi network.
5. Vibration setting instead of sound (for supported models)
Some Xiaomi remotes (such as the Mi Remote Pro 2 or the remotes for the Mi TV 6) support vibration instead of audio.
- Open the Settings. → About the DU remote.
- Find the option Vibration on press or Tactile feedback.
- Activate it and turn off the buttons.
If this option is not available, check the remote firmware version:
- Press Menu + OK at the same time and the software version will appear on the screen.
- If the version is older than 2022, update the firmware through Settings → Remote Update.

Sticking damping stickers on buttons
If the sound is coming from a mechanical click of the buttons, you can use silicone stickers or damping substrates, which will reduce the volume of the presses by 30 to 50 percent.
What you need:
- 🛒 Silicone keyboard stickers (sold in computer stores).
- 📏 Scissors for pruning.
- 🧴 Alcohol for surface degreasing.
Instructions:
- Cut the stickers by the size of the remote buttons (usually 8-10 mm in diameter).
- Degrease the surface of the buttons with alcohol.
- Stick stickers to the most used buttons (e.g. OK, Volume, Home).

⚠️ Warning: Do not put stickers on touch buttons (if you have them on your remote) - this can disrupt their work. Also avoid getting glue on the infrared transmission (the small window at the top of the remote control).
Replacement of the battery with a less powerful (temporary solution)
If the remote sound is too loud due to high voltage, you can temporarily replace the AAA battery with a Ni-MH battery with a lower voltage (1.2V instead of 1.5V).
Critical: This method only works on remotes with a speaker powered directly by the battery (usually older models before 2019). Modern remotes have a voltage stabilizer, so replacing the battery will not affect the volume.
The alternative is to use a discharged battery (voltage ~1.3V).
- Insert a new battery and actively use the remote for 2-3 days.
- When you notice that the range has decreased, check the volume of the sound - it should decrease.
