Waking up to your favorite music makes the morning feel better, but Xiaomiβs standard alarm melodies get boring quickly. Fortunately, the manufacturer provides several ways to set your tune β from simple replacement through a system app to using third-party utilities for advanced features. In this article, weβll break down all the current methods for smartphones on MIUI 14/15 (including Redmi, POCO and Black Shark), and also explain how to get around the typical system limitations.
It's important to understand that the functionality can vary depending on the model and the firmware version. For example, on the Xiaomi 13 Pro with MIUI 15, an advanced alarm editor is available, while on the budget Redmi Note 12, some of the options are hidden. We took these nuances into account and prepared universal instructions that will suit most users. If your smartphone does not support a standard melody replacement, do not worry: there are workarounds in the article.
1. Standard method: Replace the melody through the app "Clock"
The most obvious method is to use the built-in Watch app (or Clock in global firmware), which works on all Xiaomi devices without additional software, but has a limitation: you can only select tracks that the system recognizes as βalarm clock tunes.β
- Open the Clock app (an icon with a dial on the home screen or in the app menu).
- Go to the Alarming Signal tab (bell icon in the lower menu).
- Click on an existing alarm clock or create a new one (+ in the lower right corner).
- Slip on the item Melody (or Ringtone in English version).
- In the list that opens, select Add a Melody (if available) or scroll down to My Melodies.
- Select the desired track from the list and confirm the choice.
If your track is not listed, it is not recognized by the system as a melody. To make the file appear in this menu, you need to place it in the Ringtones or Alarms folder on the internal drive (more on this in the next section).
β οΈ Warning: Some models (e.g., POCO X5 Pro) may not have the Add Melody option, in which case use the Alarms folder or third-party application method.
2. Manually add a tune through the Alarms folder
If your track doesn't show up in the tune list, the most reliable way is to put it in a special folder that MIUI scans automatically, which works on all firmware versions, including MIUI 12.5 and later.
Step 1. Prepare an audio file
- π΅ The file format should be.mp3,.m4a or.ogg (up to 5 minutes long, up to 10 MB in size).
- π± Rename the file in Latin without spaces (e.g., morning_song.mp3).
- π Copy the file to the internal memory of the smartphone (not to the SD- card!).
Step 2. Create a folder for tunes
- π Open any file manager (e.g., Google Files or Mi File Manager).
- π Go to the root directory of internal memory (usually /storage/emulated/0/).
- π₯οΈ Create a folder called Alarms (registration is important!) If the folder already exists, skip this step.
- π Move your audio file to this folder.
Step 3. Update the list of tunes
- βοΈ Reboot your smartphone (this will speed up the systemβs file scanning).
- β° Open the Watch β Alarms app and select any alarm clock.
- π Slip on the Melody - your track should appear in the My Melodies section.
File format: MP3/M4A/OGG|
Track length - up to 5 minutes |
File name - Latin without spaces |
File copied to internal memory |
Created folder /Alarms-->
β οΈ Warning: If the file does not appear in the list after the reboot, check: The correct folder name (Alarms, not alarms or alarms). No hidden characters in the file name (for example, spaces at the beginning / end).
3.Use of third-party alarm clock apps
If standard methods donβt work or you need advanced features (e.g. smooth volume increase, random tunes, integration with Spotify), itβs worth considering third-party apps. We tested several popular solutions and selected the best ones for Xiaomi:
| Annex | Features | Support for MIUI | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sleep as Android | Sleep Analysis Integration with Spotify/YouTube Music Capcha to turn off alarm clock | Yes (including MIUI 15) | Google Play |
| Alarmy | Disconnection tasks (QR scan, math) Playlist support Reserve alarm clock | Yes (possible POCO restrictions) | Google Play |
| Timely | Cloud Alarm Control Smooth Awakening Minimalistic Design | Yes (requires auto-start permit) | Google Play |
How to set a third-party alarm clock:
- Install the app from Google Play.
- Open it and provide all the permissions you request (especially Memory Access and AutoRun).
- Create a new alarm and select Melody β in most applications, you can download any file from your device.
- Set up additional settings (for example, you can add a task to disable to Alarmy).
π‘
To keep the third-party alarm clock running after the smartphone is restarted, add it to the autostart list: Settings β Apps β Autostart and turn on the switch for the selected application.
4. Cloud services: Spotify, YouTube Music and others
If you use streaming services, you can set the alarm right from there, which is a way for users of Spotify Premium, YouTube Music or Yandex Music, and the main advantage is that you can access millions of tracks without having to download them to your device.
Configure via Spotify:
- π§ Make sure you have a premium subscription (the free version does not have a feature available).
- π± Install the Spotify app and log in.
- β° Open the Watch β Alarm clock app and create a new alarm clock.
- π In the Melody section, select Spotify (the option will appear after installing the app).
- π Find a track or playlist and save the settings.
Limitations of the method:
- The track will only be played when connected to the Internet (Wi-Fi or mobile network).
- Some models (Redmi 10A, POCO M4 Pro) may not integrate with Spotify.
- Volume depends on the media settings in the system (make sure the sound is not muffled).
What if Spotify doesnβt appear on the tone list?
5. Problem Solving: Why the Melody Is Not Staged
Even after completing all the instructions, Xiaomi users sometimes encounter errors, and we have collected typical problems and ways to solve them:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The file is not displayed in the list of tunes | Incorrect folder Unsupported format | Check the path: /Alarms/ (not /Ringtones/) Convert the file to MP3 via an online converter |
| The alarm goes off without sound. | Do Not Disturb Mode Low Media Volume | Turn off Do Not Disturb in the Notification Curtain Check Volume in Settings β Sound β Media Volume |
| Third-party alarm clock not running | No Auto Start Permit Battery Optimization | Add the app to Autostart (Settings β Applications β Autostart) Disable Battery Optimization for the app |
Additional advice:
- π If the alarm doesnβt work after the MIUI update, reset the settings of the Watch app (Settings β Apps β Watches β Memory β Reset).
- π΄ On some firmware (MIUI China), the alarm clock is limited, so the solution is to switch to global firmware.
- ποΈ For models with Dynamic RAM Expansion (e.g., Xiaomi 12T), turn off this feature in the settings if the alarm is slowing down.
adb shell pm enable com.android.deskclock6. Alternative methods for advanced users
If you're ready to experiment, you can use advanced tools to tune your alarm clock, which require technical skills, but open up additional possibilities.
Method 1: Using ADB to unlock hidden features
On some MIUI firmware, the option to select a custom tune is hidden, and you can activate it via ADB:
- Install Platform Tools on your PC.
- Connect your smartphone via USB and enable Debugging over USB (Settings β About Phone β MIUI version β press 7 times, then go back to Additional β For Developers).
- Follow the command: adb shell settings put global alarm_alert "content://media/internal/audio/media/123" (replace 123 with ID of your track, which can be found through the file manager with support for ADB).
Method 2: Replace system tunes with TWRP
For users with an unlocked bootloader and TWRP installed:
- Download the archive with the replacement of tunes (for example, on XDA).
- Reboot to TWRP and file it.
- Clear the Dalvik/ART cache.
β οΈ Warning: Misuse of ADB or TWRP may cause a system failure.
7.Alarm clock optimization: volume, vibration, repetition
Set the melody is half the battle, so that the alarm clock works effectively, set up additional parameters:
Loudness and vibration:
- π In MIUI the alarm clock volume is adjusted separately from the media. Go to Settings β Sound β The volume of the alarm clock.
- π³ Vibration is enabled in the alarm settings (Clock β Alarm β Vibration). On Xiaomi 13 Ultra, custom vibration patterns are available.
Repeat and deposition:
- β²οΈ In the standard application, you can set the alarm clock repeat after 5β30 minutes (Repeat in the alarm settings).
- β³ Alarmy has a smart repeat feature β the alarm will ring until you complete the task (e.g. scan the QR- code in the bathroom).
Energy conservation:
- π Add the Watch app to the battery optimization exception list (Settings β Battery β Battery Optimization β All apps).
- β‘ On models with MIUI 15, activate the High Performance Alarm Mode in the battery settings.
