Xiaomi’s robot vacuum cleaners have become an integral part of smart homes, but their sound is not always comfortable for users. Some want to make the device quieter so as not to wake up the household at night, others to change the annoying voice assistant or turn off the audio signals completely. In this article, we will examine all possible ways to adjust the sound on Xiaomi vacuum cleaners, from basic parameters in the application to hidden functions of the engineering menu.
It is important to understand that the customization options depend on the vacuum cleaner model and firmware version. For example, the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite has limited options compared to the flagship Xiaomi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro. We will look at universal methods, and also point out the features of specific devices. If your model does not support a particular function, it is not a manual error, but a manufacturer limitation.
Before you make any changes, make sure your vacuum cleaner is connected to the Mi Home app (or Xiaomi Home in newer versions) and has the latest firmware. Many sound problems are solved by a simple software update.
1. Basic sound settings in the Mi Home app

Note: on laser rangefinder (LDS) vacuum cleaners, disabling the audible signals can cause the device to silently "hang" when faced with obstacles, in which case it is recommended to leave a minimum volume level for critical notifications.

Change sounds through the engineering menu (for advanced users)
If standard settings are not enough, you can use the engineering menu, which is suitable for experienced users and requires caution - incorrect actions can lead to a firmware failure.
To enter the engineering menu:
- Make sure the vacuum cleaner is connected to Wi-Fi and is in standby mode.
- Press and hold the Home and Spot Cleaning buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds until you hear a double beep.
- After that, the vacuum cleaner will issue a voice message in Chinese (even if you have Russian firmware).

3. Disable sounds via voice commands (for models with AliGenie support)
Xiaomi vacuum cleaners with support for voice assistant AliGenie (or XiaoAI) allow you to control voice audio settings, which only works for devices tied to a Chinese Mi Account with voice services enabled.
To turn off the sounds with your voice:
- Activate the voice assistant on the vacuum cleaner by saying, "Hey, Mi" (for international versions) or "Hey, Mi" (for Chinese firmware).
- Say one of the commands: 🔇 "" — turn off all beeps 🔊 "" — volume down 🗣️ "" — change the language of voice alerts
Confirm the team if the assistant requests confirmation.
The list of supported voice commands depends on the firmware version. On Global ROM, some functions may not be available. The full list of commands for your model can be found in the documentation or through a request for a voice assistant.

If the voice assistant is not responsive to commands, check the vacuum cleaner’s Internet connection and the status of Xiaomi servers. Sometimes voice control problems are associated with blocking access to Chinese servers (relevant for users from Russia and Europe).
4. Change of region of the device for expanding the sound settings
Many users are faced with the fact that in their region some audio settings are not available, for example, on firmware for the Chinese market (CN ROM) you can not completely turn off voice alerts, and on European versions may not be Russian, the solution is to change the region of the device in the Mi Home application.

Main steps:
- Download the latest firmware for your model from Xiaomi’s official website or trusted forums (e.g. 4PDA).
- Unpack the firmware file (usually with the.pkg extension) with the help of the archiver.
- Find a folder with audio files, which can be called /sound/ /voice/ /media/audio/
