The sound effects on Xiaomi smartphones can be useful for visual feedback, but are often a source of annoyance - especially when system signals are triggered at the most inopportune moment. From the intrusive click of a keyboard to loud charging notifications - the manufacturer by default includes a lot of audio accompaniments that are not always appropriate in everyday use.
In this article, weโll look at all the possible ways to turn off sound effects on Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices, from basic menu settings to hidden settings for power users. The instructions are relevant for MIUI 12, MIUI 13 and MIUI 14 firmware, and take into account the features of different versions of Android (10 to 14).
1. disable system sounds in the main settings
To start with, most of the sound effects can be eliminated through the standard settings menu, which is suitable for notifications, lock/unlock sounds, and other system signals.
Open the Settings app and go to the Sound and Vibration section, and you're interested in the following:
- ๐ Notifications โ Disables signals for SMS, mail and other notifications.
- ๐ Lock/Unlock Sound โ Removes the click when the screen is turned on/off.
- ๐ณ Touch sounds โ deactivates the response when you press the screen (does not work on all models).
- ๐ The sound of charging connection โ turns off the signal when the cable is connected.
Note: On some devices (for example, Xiaomi 12T or Redmi Note 11), the touch button may not be available, in which case it will have to be disabled through the special features settings (more on this below).

If they continue to play after turning off the sounds in this menu, check the settings of individual apps (such as WhatsApp or Telegram) โ they may have their own notifications.
2. How to Remove Keyboard Sounds (including Gboard and MIUI Keyboard)
Type sounds are one of the most annoying features for many users, and fortunately, they can be turned off for both the standard MIUI keyboard and the Gboard (Google) instructions are different:
For MIUI Keyboard:
- Open any field to enter text (for example, in Notes).
- Touch the badge. โ๏ธ (gears) on the keyboard to open its settings.
- Go to the keyboard settings โ Sound and vibration.
- Turn off the sliders Key Sound and Vibration when pressed.
For Gboard:
- Start Settings โ System โ Language and input.
- Select the Virtual Keyboard โ Gboard.
- Go to Settings โ Sound when pressed and deactivate the option.
If you use a third-party keyboard (like SwiftKey), the algorithm will be similar โ look for the partition with sounds in its settings. On some models (Poco F4, Xiaomi 13 Lite) you may need to first make the keyboard the main one in the language settings.
3. Hidden settings: disabling sounds through "Special features"
Some sound effects (such as voice cues or navigation sounds) are hidden in the feature menu, which is relevant for users with disabilities, but ordinary users can also benefit from:
- Go to Settings. โ Special facilities.
- Select the sound prompts (on some firmware - Audio settings).
- Turn off the following options: ๐ต Pressed sounds (duplicates keyboard settings, but sometimes works independently). ๐ฃ๏ธ Voice prompts โ disables voice action (relevant to TalkBack). ๐ Event notification sounds โ removes low charge signals, device connections, etc.
Important: On devices with MIUI 14 (such as Xiaomi 13 Pro or Redmi K60), the special features menu may look different โ look for the section Additional settings โ Sound.
What do I do if the sounds are still there?
4. Disabling sounds for specific applications
Some programs (messaging apps, games, social networks) have their own audio notifications that are not controlled by system settings.
Method 1: Through application settings
- ๐ฑ Open the app you want to remove (such as WhatsApp).
- Go to its settings (usually the icon) โ๏ธ or three dots in a corner).
- Find the Notifications โ Sound section and select No Sound or Quiet Mode.
Method 2: Through system notification settings
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Select the application you want (such as Telegram).
- Press Notifications and turn off the Sound slider.
For games (like PUBG Mobile or Genshin Impact), sounds are turned off directly in their menus โ look for the Audio section or Sound Settings.
Make sure the sound is turned off in:
Settings of the application itself|System Notifications for this Application|Sound profile MIUI (No sound" mode")|Game mode settings (for games)-->
5. Completely shut down all sounds through Do Not Disturb mode
If you need to instantly turn off all sounds (including alarm clocks and media), use Do Not Disturb mode, which is suitable for temporary silence, such as in meetings or at night:
How to turn on:
- Smash down the notification bar and hold the Do Not Disturb icon (๐ cross-belled).
- Select Settings โ Rules.
- Activate Always or set your schedule (for example, 23:00 to 7:00).
- In the Exclusions section, you can leave important notifications (for example, calls from selected contacts).
| Regime. | What's off? | Exceptions |
|---|---|---|
| Always. | All sounds, including media and alarm clocks | You can set up for calls/messages from selected |
| Only temporarily. | Notification and call sounds | Media and alarm clocks are working |
| Scheduled. | Automatic activation at a given time | Customized individually |
On the Poco X3 Pro and other devices with MIUI 12.5, the Do Not Disturb mode can be called Quiet Mode โ the functionality remains the same.
๐ก
Do Not Disturb mode does not affect the sounds in headphones or via Bluetooth โ the media will play if you listen to music.
6 Radical methods: Disabling sounds through ADB or root
If standard methods don't work, and the sounds are still annoying, you can use advanced methods, which require technical skills and can affect the stability of the system.
Method 1: Through ADB (without root)
This method allows you to turn off system sounds at the Android level without getting root rights. USB-cable:
adb shell settings put global sound_effects_enabled 0Once you've done the command, restart the device. To get the sounds back, replace 0 with 1.
Method 2: Delete system audio files (root required)
โ ๏ธ Warning: this method can cause firmware malfunctions!
- Install a file manager with root support (such as Root Explorer).
- Go to /system/media/audio.
- Delete or rename files with the.ogg or.mp3 extension (e.g. lock.ogg, unlock.ogg).
- Reset the device.
On the Xiaomi Mi 11 and newer models, the path to audio files may be different โ look for them in /product/media/audio or /vendor/media/audio.
๐ก
Before using ADB, make sure that your device has USB debugging enabled (Settings โ About Phone โ MIUI version โ press 7 times, then go back to Additional Settings โ For Developers).
7. Frequent problems and their solutions
Even after all the sounds are turned off, users sometimes experience a sudden return of the sounds in their settings, and here are the most common reasons and ways to eliminate them:
- ๐ Sounds are coming back after the update MIUI โ Resetting sound settings to factory (Settings) โ Sound. โ Resetting) usually helps.
- ๐ฎ Noises in games do not turn off โ check the settings of the game itself or use the Do Not Disturb mode with an exception for media.
- ๐ Notifications from system applications (e.g. Mi Security) โ Turn off the sound for them manually in Settings โ Annexes.
- ๐ฑ Touch sounds come back after reboot - this is a bug of some versions MIUI. Helps reset keyboard settings.
On Redmi Note 10 Pro and other devices with MIUI 13, a cache reset of system applications can work:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner and select Show System.
- Find the Android System and clear its cache.
๐ก
If the sounds only appear in headphones, check the Bluetooth device settings โ some models have their own beeps.
