The sound of the keyboard on Xiaomi smartphones can be annoying β especially if you type at night or in a quiet environment. Fortunately, the manufacturer has envisaged several ways to disable these clicks, but not all of them are obvious. In this article, we will examine all possible methods, from standard MIUI settings to hidden developer settings and alternative keyboards.
Itβs important to understand that the interface may differ depending on the version of MIUI (12, 13 or 14) and the phone model (Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Xiaomi 13T, etc.) We took these nuances into account and collected universal solutions that work on most devices. If you use a third-party keyboard (such as Gboard or SwiftKey), it will require separate settings, which we also described.
Before you start, check your firmware version: go to Settings β About Phone β MIUI version. This will help you navigate the instructions more accurately. And if the keyboard sound disappeared by itself, perhaps the system failure is to blame, in which case rebooting or resetting the keyboard settings will help (more about this at the end of the article).
1.Switch off sound in standard MIUI settings
The easiest way is to use the built-in system options, which is suitable for most Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO models based on MIUI 12-14.
Open any application where the keyboard appears (such as Messages or Notes (βοΈ) In the top row of the keyboard, to go to its settings, if this icon is not there, tap and hold the comma (,) or space until the menu appears.
In the window that opens, select Xiaomi Keyboard Settings (or Language and Input if you use Gboard). Go to Sound and Vibration and move the Key Sound slider to Off. On some firmwares, this item may be called Sound Response or Audio Feedback.
- π Keys sound - the main parameter responsible for clicks when pressed.
- π³ Vibration when pressed - optional, if you want to remove and tactile response.
- π΅ Long-pressed sound β a separate setting for characters (for example, when holding a letter to select an accent sign).
β οΈ Note: On some models (e.g, POCO F5) post-update MIUI 14 keyboard settings may be reset. If the sound comes back on its own, check if the settings in the Systems Applications section are lost. β keyboard.

2. Configure through system settings (for all versions of MIUI)
If the standard method didn't work, try turning off the sound through Xiaomi's global settings, which is universal and works even on older versions of the firmware. Here's how to do it:
Go to Settings β Sound and Vibration. Scroll down to Other Sounds and find Keyboard Sound (or System Sounds). Turn off the slider. On some devices (Redmi 10C, Xiaomi 11 Lite), this setting may be hidden in the submenu of Additional Sound Settings.
If you don't have Keyboard Sound, try another way: Settings β Applications β Application Management β Keyboard. Here, select Notifications and turn off all audible alerts. This is less reliable because it can block other system sounds.
| Model phone | The path to settings | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 13/13 Pro | Settings β Sound β Other Sounds β Keyboard Sound | On MIUI 14, the item may be called "Sound Response." |
| Redmi Note 12 | Settings β Sound and vibration β System sounds | Reboot is required after changes |
| POCO X5 Pro | Settings β Applications β Keyboard β Notifications | Can turn off all keyboard sounds, including voice input |
| Xiaomi 11T | Settings β Additional β Language and input β Keyboard Xiaomi | Some firmware requires resetting keyboard settings |
β οΈ Attention: On devices with Android 13+ and MIUI 14 Some audio settings may be blocked by security policies. If the slider is inactive, try temporarily disabling Data Protection in Settings. β Confidentiality.

3. Turn off the sound through the modes "Do not disturb" and "No sound"
If you need to temporarily remove the sound of the keyboard (for example, in a meeting or at night), use the system silence modes. This will not turn off clicks forever, but quickly solve the problem without deep settings.
Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification bar.Look for the Do Not Disturb icon (π with a crossed bell) or No sound (π). Click on it, it turns off all system sounds, including the keyboard. To get the sound back, re-click on the icon.
For more flexibility, go to Settings β Donβt Disturb. You can create a schedule (e.g. 22:00 to 8:00) or allow sounds only for certain contacts. Note that this mode also blocks calls and notifications β so itβs not suitable for all cases.
- π Schedule β automatically turns off sounds at a given time.
- π± Exceptions β you can allow sounds for alarm clocks or selected contacts.
- π Recovery β after leaving the mode, all keyboard settings will remain.

If the keyboard sound returns after the reboot, try adding Do Not Disturb mode to Quick Settings (click on the pencil in the notification bar and drag the icon to the active zone).
4.Use of Developer Mode (for experienced users)
If standard methods don't work, you can use the developer's hidden settings, which are suitable for advanced users and require caution - incorrect changes can affect the stability of the system.
First, activate Developer Mode: go to Settings β About Phone and 7 times click on the MIUI Version. Youβll be a developer!. Now go back to the main settings menu and find a new Developer section (usually at the bottom of the list).
Inside the section, scroll to the Multimedia block and find Disable touch sounds. Activate it. On some firmware, this option may be called Turn off input sounds or hide in the Audio submenu.
β οΈ Attention: In the developer mode, there is also the option to turn off all sounds (Force disable all sounds), which will result in a complete shutdown of sound in the system, including media and calls - use only if you are confident in your actions.

5. Installation of a third-party keyboard (Gboard, SwiftKey, etc.)
If Xiaomi's built-in keyboard is stubbornly reluctant to keep quiet, the best way to do this is to install an alternative one. Popular options are Gboard (from Google), SwiftKey (from Microsoft), or Fleksy. They offer more options for customizing the sound and often work more stable than the standard one.
Download the keyboard from Google Play (like Gboard). After installation, go to Settings β System β Language and Enter β Virtual Keyboard. Turn on the new keyboard and set it as default (this may require you to disable the standard Xiaomi keyboard).
Now open the settings of the installed keyboard (usually through the icon) βοΈ on its panel and find the Settings section β Pressed sound (in Gboard it is Preferences) β Sound on keypress. Turn off all audio options. In SwiftKey, the path will be: Sound and vibration. β Keyboard sound.
- π² Gboard β supports themes, gestures and voice input.
- β¨οΈ SwiftKey β Best Word Prediction and Cloud Synchronization.
- π¨ Fleksy β minimalist design and advanced sound settings.

The side of the keyboard not only removes the sound, but also adds useful functions: swipe input, real-time translation, emoji predictions.
6. Reset keyboard settings (if nothing helps)
In rare cases, the sound of the keyboard may be associated with a software failure, for example, after updating or installing a conflicting application, in which case resetting the keyboard settings to the factory will help.
Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management. Search the Xiaomi Keyboard (or Gboard if you use it) and select Storage. Click Clear Data and confirm action. Attention: this will delete all custom words and auto-replace settings!
After reset, restart your phone and check the sound of the keyboard. If the problem persists, try clearing the cache of system applications: Settings β Storage β Clear the cache. In extreme cases, resetting all settings will help (but this will delete all data from the phone, so make a backup first).
β οΈ Note: On some models (Redmi) 9A, POCO M3) After resetting the keyboard, the Russian language may disappear. β Additionally. β Language and input β Virtual keyboard β Languages and download the desired package.
7 Problems and Solutions: Why doesn't the sound go off?
If youβve tried all the ways, but the sound of the keyboard is still annoying, here are the possible causes and solutions:
- π Update MIUI β After the firmware update, the settings may be reset. β About the phone and if necessary, repeat the setting.
- π΄ Application conflict β some programs (such as launchers or optimizers) can override sounds. β Permits β Auto-start.
- π΅ System failure β if the sound only appears in certain apps (like WhatsApp), clear that appβs cache.
- π Hardware problem on rare devices (Xiaomi Mi) A3) The sound of the keyboard can be sewn into the firmware, in which case only the flashing of the firmware will help.
If none of the methods worked, contact Xiaomi Service Center.Perhaps the problem is related to damage to system files or hardware defect of the speaker. Before visiting, back up the data through Settings β Additional β Backup and Reset.
