The sound signals that you tap on the screen or keys on Xiaomi smartphones can be annoying โ especially if youโre actively using the device in quiet places or at night. By default, MIUI plays system sounds when typing, locking the screen, and even when you connect the charger. Fortunately, you can turn them off in a few steps, but the methods vary depending on the firmware version and the phone model.
In this article, weโll break down all the current techniques, from standard settings to hidden developer settings, and learn how to remove key sounds on Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Xiaomi 13T, and other devices with MIUI 12-14, and if the sounds come back after the update, youโll find a solution to this problem.
Why do the keyboard sounds turn on on on their own?
Many users complain that system sounds come back after a reboot or MIUI update.
- ๐ Resetting settings after the firmware update (especially relevant for MIUI 14 Android-based 13/14).
- ๐ฑ Sound profiles: When activated, Quiet or Do Not Disturb, some sounds may be activated automatically.
- ๐ค Special Options Services: Functions like โSound Notificationโ or โAudioโ override settings.
- ๐ง Cache errors: corrupted data from Settings or Lawnchair applications reset settings.
If the sounds appear after the update, first check the version of MIUI in Settings โ About Phone. On some firmware (for example, MIUI 13.0.6 for Redmi Note 11), the bug with spontaneously turning on sounds is eliminated only through resetting media settings.
Method 1: Disconnect via standard MIUI settings
The easiest method is to use a sound menu, which works on all Xiaomi models (including POCO and Black Shark) with MIUI 12 and later:
- Open the settings (cog icon on the desktop).
- Go to the section Sound and vibration.
- Scroll down to the System Sounds block.
- Turn off the sliders: ๐ Pressing sound (keyboard, screen buttons). ๐ Lock/unlock sound. โก Charging sound (if any).
On some devices (e.g. Xiaomi 12 Pro), these options may be in the submenu Additional audio settings. If there are no sliders, then the sounds are turned off at the firmware level (see Method 3).
โ๏ธ Checking for sound switching off
โ ๏ธ Attention: POCO F4 Xiaomi 11T s MIUI 13.1. after disabling the sounds through the settings, they can return when the headphones are connected. In this case, use Method 4 (ADB).
Method 2: Turn off keyboard sounds (Gboard, SwiftKey, MIUI Keyboard)
Even if the system sounds are turned off, the keyboard can emit its own signals, both for the standard MIUI Keyboard and third-party applications (Gboard, SwiftKey).
MIUI Keyboard (standard Xiaomi keyboard)
- Open any input field (for example, in Notes).
- Touch the badge. โ๏ธ (gear on the keyboard โ Settings.
- Select Sound and Vibration โ Turn off Sound when pressed.
Gboard (keyboard from Google)
- Start Settings โ System โ Language and input.
- Slip on the Virtual Keyboard โ Gboard.
- Go to Settings โ Sound when pressed โ select No Sound.
For SwiftKey, the path is similar: Keyboard settings โ Sound and vibration โ disable all sliders. If the sounds are left, clear the keyboard cache in Settings โ Applications.

If they return after disabling Gboard sounds, delete keyboard updates in Google Play or install an alternative version (e.g., Gboard Beta).
Method 3: Hidden Developer Settings
On some firmware (e.g. MIUI 14 for Xiaomi 13 Ultra), standard methods donโt work due to manufacturer restrictions, in which case the developer menu will help:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings โ About Phone. Tap 7 times on MIUI Version (you will receive a notification "You became a developer").
Settings
Additionally.
For developers
Turn off all sounds completely.
Disable all sounds
If you donโt have this option, try an alternative route:
Settings โ Special features โ Hearing โ Disable the sounds of the systemโ ๏ธ Attention: POCO X3 Pro MIUI 12.5 turning on this setting can cause the sound to disappear in the calls. Before using, check the microphone in the Equipment Test (#6484##).
| Xiaomi model | MIUI version | Does the way work? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10 Pro | 13.0.4 | โ Yes. | The option is called Disable System Sounds. |
| Xiaomi 12 Lite | 14.0.2 | โ No. | ADB is required (see Method 4) |
| POCO F5 | 14.0.3 | โ Partially. | Turns off sounds but returns after rebooting |
| Black Shark 5 | 13.0.1 | โ Yes. | You need to turn on Game Sound Off. |
Method 4: Disconnect via ADB (for power users)
If none of the previous methods worked, the ADB team remains. This method is suitable for all Xiaomi models, but requires a computer and a debugging bridge.
- Install ADB Tools on your PC.
- Enable USB debugging on your phone: Settings โ Additional โ For developers โ Debugging over USB
- Connect your phone to your PC and type in the command line: adb shell settings put global sound_effects_enabled 0
- To turn off keyboard sounds add: adb shell settings put system sound_effects_enabled 0
Once you've done the commands, restart the device. The sounds should disappear forever, even after the updates. To get them back, replace the 0 with 1 commands.
What to do if ADB is not working?
Method 5: Reset media settings (extreme case)
If the sounds come back after each update or reboot, the problem may be the damaged media settings, in which case the reset will help:
- Open Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Put three points on it (โฎ) โ Resetting application settings.
- Confirm action. This will remove all user audio settings, including the volume of alarm clocks and notifications.
If you use POCO Launcher, sounds can be controlled through its settings: long-press on the desktop โ Launcher settings โ Sounds and vibrations.

On the Xiaomi Pad 6, the key sounds are turned off separately for tablet mode. Check the settings in Settings โ Display โ Tablet Mode.
